- Hawkeye's challenge to go through a day without telling a joke is complicated by Winchester's amusingly desperate attempt to curry the favor of a hated visiting officer.
- BJ tells Hawkeye that he is never serious about anything. He makes about 5 jokes per minute. 5000 jokes/day. He is a funny guy, but not secure. BJ says that there is more foam in Hawkeye's mouth than on his body (while bathing). Hawkeye makes a bet with BJ (for $10) that he can go one full day without making a wisecrack.
Meanwhile, the camp receives a visit from Col. Horace Baldwin (Robert Symonds), the man who exiled Charles to the camp. Potter knows that Winchester would be keen on revenge and tries to break the news to him gently. Winchester is furious and wants Baldwin to suffer (Baldwim banished Winchester to avoid paying him $600 that he lost to Winchester in a cribbage game), but Potter orders Winchester to stay away from Baldwin. Klinger convinces Winchester that the man who banished Winchester can also recall him back to Tokyo. He tells Winchester to cozy upto Baldwin and suck up. Charles plots revenge ... He greets Baldwim upon his arrival, though Baldwin has not idea who Winchester is till he is reminded, forcefully. Winchester loses to Baldwin (intentionally) at a game of cribbage (and helps Baldwin eradicate his debt of $623 to Winchester) and the treats him to 18 yr old cognac. He agrees with every garbage that comes out of Baldwin's mouth (Baldwin prefers steak over octopus. Calls Boston bean town). He wants Baldwin to recall him back to Tokyo after the debt has been neutralized, but Baldwin feels lucky and wants to keep playing. Soon, Winchester owes Baldwin $452.27. Winchester pays him by check and re-iterates his love for Tokyo
before Baldwin retires for the night, he wants Winchester to arrange for a female for him, in exchange for the transfer to Tokyo. While Winchester is at Rosie's trying to arrange for a hooker (Rosie arranges one for $10 for the night), Margaret takes the camp reports to Baldwin's tent. Baldwin thinks Margaret is the female that Winchester "arranged" for him. Baldwin makes a grab at Margaret in his tent (he was wearing leather pajamas). Margaret rushes into the O Club and is furious at Winchester for agreeing provide "concubines" for Baldwin. She reports the matter to Potter. the concubine comes in shortly after yelling that when she went to the VIP tent, Baldwin was on the floor and yelled at her to get out. She still wants to get paid. When Winchester resists, she calls in her pimp to collect.
Baldwin offers Charles a fabulous assignment in Tokyo if Charles will only help him to discredit Margaret's claim of sexual harassment against him and say that Houlihan went to Potter only after Baldwin rejected her. when Potter starts the investigation, Baldwin claims that Margaret offered him sexual services in exchange for a promotion. Winchester confirms the Baldwin is lying and he has to leave the camp asap
By this entire time, Hawkeye had not made a single joke. but now its 12:01 and its no longer today, its tomorrow. Hawkeye gets on the PA commenting on the events of the day.
