Moya grows old
Tweekums26 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Upon hearing there is another Luxan in the area D'Argo goes with Crichton and Zhaan to an inhospitable planet to find her. When they arrive they find she isn't just any Luxan; she is an Orican... a highly venerated priest called Nilaam. She is also dying of old age. She requests that D'Argo assists her with the Luxan death rites; a ritual which isn't without danger to him. Crichton advises him not to do it but he does as it is one of the highest honours for a Luxan; the rite doesn't quite go as planned though; sensing D'Argo's strength she performs a different rite; one that returns her youth. There is an unexpected complication; the strength she sensed was not D'Argo's; it was Moya's and the ritual that caused Nilaam to become young again has had the opposite effect on Moya. If they don't think what to do quickly Moya will die.

This was a decent stand alone episode which taught us a bit more about D'Argo's past; he carries the tattoo markings of a general despite not attaining that rank as he wanted to protect the actual general. Nilaam made a good antagonist as she wasn't trying to do anything wrong; yes she nearly killed Moya but it was an accident. The effects of Nilaam's rite weren't dramatic but it did put Moya, Chiana and Rygel in obvious danger; in Rygel's case in a rather amusing way... his backside plugged a hole in Moya's hull! Overall this isn't a classic episode but it had some decent moments and being self contained it doesn't really matter if you watch it out of order.
