A fine opening to the third season
Tweekums3 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After the downbeat ending of Season two; with Crichton unable to talk, presumable brain damaged and Aeryn dead things can only get brighter here... but not too much brighter! Unable to get back to his command carrier, due to Talyn's presence, Scorpius is forced to hide in a secure room along with Braca and the doctor's associate Grunchlk, who had been working for Scorpius all along. This previous help doesn't do much for Grunchlk as Scorpius uses a painful device that enables him to control Grunchlk. When Zhaan, Rygel and D'Argo arrive they manage to help the doctor so that he can resume work on Crichton although if he is to heal him he will have to use material from living beings. Despite objections to the morality of that he is helped. He isn't free of 'Harvey' though without the chip in his brain he has the upper hand. It turns out Grunchlk didn't trust Scorpius and programmed one of the cryo-pods to release a Scarran; this proves to be more of a threat to John and D'Argo though. Zhaan meanwhile thinks she may be able to help Aeryn... at great personal risk!

This was a good opening to the third season that resolved some of the questions left hanging at the end of the previous series... most notably what would be come of John and Aeryn... although I must admit that when I first saw that episode I thought she was dead so the events here were a pleasant surprise. It was satisfying to see Crichton beating Harvey and literally dumping him in a dumpster, just as it was pleasing to see Aeryn back. There were some less pleasant scenes... The scene where Scorpius forced Grunchlk to bite off one of his own fingers wouldn't have been out of place in a horror movie... it certainly made me wince! While it is still early it looks as though Season Three could be another good one.
