Road Trip!
planktonrules7 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Miraculously, Daria actually gets her driver's license (by the way, the car has the anarchy symbol as a hood ornament). Little does she know that she'll have to use this license a lot sooner than she'd anticipated.

Jane and Mystik Spiral are going to a town a hundred miles away for a concert. Daria and Quinn are home alone--their parents are going to a weekend marriage seminar. Unexpectedly, Jane calls shortly after Daria's folks leave. It seems that she and the Spiral are stuck in a small town jail for a driving offense and need Daria to pay their fine. So, Daria and Quinn go on a little cross-country trip to save the band...and Jane. Along the way, Quinn stops the car to pick up a dodgy hitchhiker and the Spirals meet an amazing(?) man in jail who regales them them with stories about his many adventures.

When Quinn is responsible for losing all the bail money, fortunately she uses her feminine ways to solve the problem. And, for once, she and Daria actually make a pretty good team! Of course, Quinn's stupidity necessitated all this.

Overall it's a pretty funny episode. My favorite part was the new band member who was a wild rebel--you have to see him to know what I mean!

Jane goes to jail
Tweekums15 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
After many attempts Daria finally passes her driving test and it isn't long before she must go on a fairly long drive. Jane was driving Trent and his band to a gig in the next state when she got pulled over for crossing the double line and the only person she can think of to drive over and pay the fine is Daria. As Daria's parents are away that means Quinn will have to come along too. On the way Daria will learn some interesting facts about Quinn and picking up a hitch hiker will lead to some financial problems; and not for the obvious reason. Meanwhile Jane gets in further trouble while waiting in jail and the band meets an old rocker with some very tall tales to tell.

This episode was a lot of fun; it was nice to see Daria and Quinn getting on well together for once; they even worked well as a team when it came to getting the bail money back. It was also a laugh to learn that Quinn knew how to drive and was clearly used to going to bars!

Subversive, Daria's character growth as we approach the end of season 3

Warning: Spoilers
I like many Daria episodes, and this is a standout, with Daria and Quinn embarking on a road trip where she gains confidence, especially at the end when believe it or not Daria runs over the cowboy hitchhiker's luggage. The incident with the hitchhiker reminded me of the Brad Pitt character in Thelma and Louise where he runs off with all their money (and I was devastated about the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt break up by the way). In Speedtrapped, the cowboy hitchhiker persuades Quinn to spend the bail money on her clothes, and he keeps some of the cash for himself.

The scene in the bar where Daria saves the day to get donations for bail money was inspiring. Also the anti-cop band member who rejoices in getting a junior police badge at the end...a superb background storyline. I also liked how the band tried to incite the police to violence, but with no success! The band's efforts to confect police brutality was doomed to fail because the band is all white, so they had nothing to worry about at all. Nothing to worry about. At all.

Season 4 will be interesting, where we see the arching storyline of Jane's romance with Tom, and then Tom falling for Daria at the end of season 4.
