CORONADO 9 - Hunt Breakfast - 1961 P.I. Rod Cameron gets himself involved in a case of hostage taking.
Gunmen, Ken Lynch, Jan Merlin and Jack Emrok burst into the house of bank manager, William Keene. They wave around several pistols and a shotgun. They want Keene to come and open the safe at his bank before the employees arrive. Lynch will go with Keene to the bank to collect the cash, while Merlin and Emrok keep guard on the manager's wife, Eve Mcveagh and daughter, Cindy Robbins.
Keene says he will need to make one phone call to cancel a meeting with a fishing buddy. Lynch says to make it quick. Keene calls his buddy, P.I. Cameron, and explains that they will need to change their fishing trip. Cameron listens to Keene knowing something must be wrong. They had no trip planned.
Cameron races to his car and roars over to Keene's house. He gets there just as Keene and Lynch head for the bank. Cameron follows at a discreet distance. He watches Lynch manhandle Keene into the bank. He has a quick boo in the bank window. There, he sees Keene filling a bag with cash with Lynch holding a gun on him. Cameron waits for the two men to exit, and then confronts Lynch.
Lynch of course pulls his rod and starts firing. Cameron, a crack shot, returns fire and puts Lynch down for good. He then has Keene explain what is going on. Cameron gets on the horn and calls the Police. He wants them to surround the block where Keene's house is.
He is going to enter the house hiding in Keene's car. He has Keene drive home, park in the garage and then enter the house. Once inside, he is to tell Emrock and Merlin that Lynch has split with the loot, leaving them behind.
This has the desired effect on the two gunmen. They argue over what to do. Merlin decides he is the new boss and shoots Emork in the gut. He now grabs Keene's car and makes a hasty retreat down the street. The Police however are parked at both ends. Cameron needs to use his gun to bring down the shotgun wielding Merlin.
A rather violent episode in my humble opinion.
