An episode that really highlights Angel and Cordy's relationship
katierose29528 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is a pretty entertaining episode that really highlights the growing romance between Angel and Cordy. He'll break his own code, risk the lives of himself and others, and even work with Wolfram and Hart to keep to keep her save. (Interestingly, he'll do very similar things to keep Conner safe in season four.) Angel doesn't want to lose anyone else he loves and he's beginning to love Cordy as more than just a friend. I really like their relationship and it's cool to watch it develop. "That Vision Thing" will also tie in with the later episode "Billy," so if you're watching the season on DVD you probably shouldn't skip this episode.

"That Vision Thing" revolves around Cordelia's gifts suddenly turning dangerous. She gets a vision of a demon that leaves her physically hurt. Huge scratches cover her body. She tries to cover up her injuries and sends Angel off to find the coin that the demon was guarding. Once he gets it, though, Cordy has another vision. This one leaves her face covered in blisters and she can't hide it. Angel is horrified that the visions are hurting Cordy. He goes to find the key thing from her vision, while Wes works on a plan to cure Cordy. Lorne comes to try and "read" Cordy. She's scared that if the visions go away, Angel won't need her anymore. Angel tells Cordy that he needs HER, not the visions. Cordy finally agrees to let Lorne try and help. Something goes wrong, and Lorne goes flying across the room. Cordy's arm develops terrible burns as she has another vision, this one of a guy trapped in a hell dimension. It soon becomes clear that her new visions aren't from the PTB... They're being sent from Wolfram and Hart.

Angel goes to confront Lilah and learns that she's hired a psychic to "hack" into Cordy's brain. Lilah says that unless Angel agrees to help, she'll let Cordy die. It seems that one of her clients, a guy named Billy, is imprisoned in an hell dimension. Lilah wants Angel to get Billy out. Angel agrees. The coin and the key are actually an dimensional opening. It allows Angel to jump into the hell dimension and get to Billy. He fights the big, armored demon, Skip, who's holding Billy captive. Then Angel sets up a trade with Lilah. As soon as she has her psychic remove the spell from Cordy, Angel sets Billy free. Then he kills the psychic and warns Lilah never to come after Cordy again. Cordy is concerned when she learns what Angel did. She points out that they don't know what Billy's capable of or what he did to get send to that hell dimension. Angel says that he can't worry about that and that whatever it costs, it's worth it to have Cordy safe.

There are some good parts to this episode. I like the scene with Gunn, Wes and Angel riding around in Angel's car, checking herbal shops. Gunn's especially funny, muttering that they really need to start searching the last place on the list first, since that's always where the mystical do-dad ends up. And I like Fred reading the phone book. "'H' is such an interesting letter." She's a really great addition to the cast. Wes sort of smiles at her and you can already see that he's falling for her. Finally, I really love how this episode highlights Angel and Cordy's relationship. They've really come a long way since the first season and their friendship is growing into something more. Cordy is more than Angel's assistant or conduit or friend. He's growing to love her. I actually don't agree with Angel freeing Billy from that hell dimension. But, I understand why he did it. Angel can't loose Cordelia and he'll risk anything and anyone to keep her safe. It's very sweet and I think it's actually very true to his character's evolution. Angel needs Cordy. She grounds him and gives him a reason to fight.

On the down side, I can't believe that Angel didn't kill Lilah in this episode. Don't get me wrong, I love Lilah. She's so snarky and bad, that it's impossible not to enjoy all her scenes. But she's evil and dangerous and a continuing threat to Team Angel. Angel never should have given into her demands to rescue Billy and he really should have gotten rid of Lilah now, before she comes up with a plan that he can't circumvent so easily.

My favorite part of the episode: Skip. I just like that guy.

If I lose the visions, I wouldn't be able to help you anymore. You wouldn't need me

Warning: Spoilers
If I lose the visions, I wouldn't be able to help you anymore. You wouldn't need me - When it's a 'Cordy' episode you can always guess that it's going to be treat, and a treat it was. This episode was actually supposed to be the third episode but got switched with That Old Gang Of Mine for some reason, that's why the 'Fred' storyline doesn't make all that much sense as she is more calm about going outside unlike in TOGOM. What I also love about this season is that all the characters are so likable, and there is plenty of character attraction, most notable 'Cangel', in the other seasons the characters are too individual while they are more like a family in this one. 'Lilah' begins to shine now that 'Lindsey' is outta the way, she can come out of his shadow and truly show her great evilness, her chemistry with 'Gavin' was also great, not because of him but because she makes any character that talks to her look good. Evil 'Skip' appears for the first time who eventually leads 'Cordy' to her own doom, also 'Billy' who is played by Justin Shilton makes his first appearance, he even gets his own episode later this season. That Vision Thing is a wonderful episode with a kick-ass cliffhanger where 'Darla' says that it's time to go back and visit daddy. LILAH: You're a remarkable man, Angel. ANGEL: Yeah, and you're an evil b!tch.

The One Where Cordelia's Visions Are Killing Her...
taylorkingston26 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is really good. Personally, better than the Season 3 Premiere episode. In this episode, Cordelia has some visions. Like pretty much every episode since halfway through Season 1, when Doyle gave her his visions. But these visions are actually hurting her. Not in the way that she normally gets hurt, with headaches and brain blasts, she gets burned when she someone getting burned, and she gets cuts and boils. All such horrible things. Turns out, that The Powers That Be aren't sending her these visions like usual. They're being hacked in, by special guest star, Kal Penn. It's all because of Lilah from Wolfram and Hart. She's so annoying.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10.

Vampire not welcome.
bombersflyup30 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
That Vision Thing is about Cordelia having physical repercussions from her visions, orchestrated by Lilah.

Has its moments, but isn't among the better episodes. A very Cordy centric episode, Wesley starts sending Fred to assist Gunn, which isn't wise. Angel shows he's willing to do wrong to help Cordy, because she has become incredibly important to him. Skip makes his first appearance and amusing here, but there's too much Lilah and Gavin in this episode for my liking.

I love the ending scene before Darla, where Angel hurls the object through the car window into the psychic, then moves right up close to Lilah and says "Don't you come at me through Cordelia ever again. You play that card a second time, and I'll kill you."

Angel: It's not about winning, Cordelia. It's about what's at stake. And in this particular scenario you were way more important than winning.

Lilah takes centre stage

Warning: Spoilers
THAT VISION THING

The Good; A real one for Lilah fans, our first sight of Skip and some great acting by CC

The Bad; The brain thing looks fake. It also seems all very unnecessarily complicated to rescue Billy

Best line: CC (about Gavin) "Ok, Satan's toady but that's a NICE suit!"

Jeez, how did they get away with that? You so feel for Cordy as she suffers. Not so much the re-bar through the head but Darla slicing her hand makes me wince every time.

Apocalypses: 5

Angel Clichés Inverting the Hollywood cliché; Darla's "Men are such babies" remark, about some things yes.

In disguise; 8

DB get's his shirt off; 12

Cordy's tattoo; oh yes 8

Cheap Angel; 7

Fang Gang in bondage: Cordy: 5 Angel: 10 Wes: 6 Gunn; 3 Lorne; 2

Fang gang knocked out: Cordy and Lorne Cordy: 11 Angel: 13 Wes: 5 Doyle; 1 Gunn; 1 Lorne; 2

Kills: 2 demons for Angel Cordy: 5 vamps, 3 demons Angel; 28 vamps, 40 and 1/2 demons, 3 humans Doyle; 1 vamp Wes; 7 demons+1 vamp Kate; 3 vamps Faith; 16 vamps, 6 demons, 3 humans. Gunn; 8 vamps+ 5 demons.

Fang Gang go evil: Cordy: 2 Angel: 2

Alternate Fang Gang: Cordy: 2 Angel: 6

Characters killed: 37

Recurring characters killed; 6;

Total number of Angel Investigations: Fred doing research and taking care of Cordy, now part of the gang 5, Angel, Cordy, Wes, Gunn, Fred

Angel Investigations shot: Angel: 11 Wes; 1

Packing heat; Wes; 3 Doyle; 1 Angel; 1

Notches on Fang Gang bedpost: I'm going to add Phantom Dennis who Cordy will later tell us is 'good with a loofah'. Cordy: 3 ?+Wilson/Hacksaw Beast+Phantom Dennis(?) Angel: 2; Buffy and Darla Wes; 2; Virginia and the bleached blonde

Kinky dinky: 'Dick' and 'dong' in the car on the way to get the key. Lilah paws Angel when he's in her office and when he's violent with her it actually seems to turn her on all the more, she keeps pawing. Fred is 'forking with Gunn'.

Captain Subtext; Lorne loves The Sound of Music. But who doesn't?

Know the face, different character; 3 The guy who plays the shamen is one of many Whedonverse alumni to appear on 'How I met your mother', playing Robin's therapist in season 7

Parking garages; 5,

Guantanamo Bay; Angel threatens Lilah and Gavin. Wes and Gunn are quite prepared to kill Billy if WR&H try anything smart. Despite her tough girl image Lilah seems to be genuinely afraid at the end of the ep.

Buffy characters on Angel; 16 Wetherby, Collins and Smith. Angel, Cordy, Oz, Spike, Buffy, Wes, Faith, Darla, Dru, Master, Anne, Willow and Harmony

Questions and observations; CC impressed by Gavin's clothes, what a shame she missed most of season 5 when AI can put their wardrobe on WR&H expense account. I wonder if the makers of The Matrix say this ep? They certainly steal the key gag for the second film. Fred meets Phantom Dennis although she also feels the need to introduce herself in a later ep.

Marks out of 10; 6/10, pretty good, not totally brilliant

Cordy's Visions Hurt!
Samuel-Shovel3 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In "That Vision Thing", Cordy's visions begin to physically manifest themselves on her body, leaving scars, burns, and boils. Angel must discover why "the powers that be" would do this to her or whether thus is coming from an alternative source.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the series opener but I thought this episode was strong. I loved the plot idea. Wolfram & Hart is constantly antagonizing Angel but this time they may have gone over the line. Lilah's character seems a bit more human than Lindsey. You can see the genuine fear she has of Angel, almost signaling that she may not be cut out for this role she currently has. I loved the character of Skip, that scene was great.

I also like the idea that occasionally Angel makes mistakes. He accidentally kills a few good guys in this one, not knowing which side they are on. This is bound to happen to a vampire on the good side.

Angel's relationship with Cordy is now fully three dimensional. He'll go against his ethics to protect her, even if that involves unleashing an unknown evil upon the world. I also like these little scenes with Darla that have popped up on the side. It's a nice subplot. Season 3 is back on track!
