Where Have All the People Gone (1974)
Lacks punch and a tad Brady Bunch.
In Where Have All the People Gone, a family treks home, after a catastrophic solar flare decimates almost all life, reducing people to powdery substance.
Yeah so while I appreciate the simplicity of the premise, this low-budget TV movie went downhill pretty quickly, once they come across a survivor and start babysitting. The film lacks punch and it's a tad Brady Bunch, also forced laughter is never good. Grand questions are never pondered, the future never discussed and the conclusion just disappoints. The actor playing the son's performance is similar to Mark Hamill in Star Wars, take that how you like.
Back from the Dead (1957)
Not a lot of life in it.
In Back From the Dead, a newly married young woman is possessed by the evil spirit of her husband's deceased first wife. The possession turns her into a scheming killer who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
Not the most thrilling of films and I didn't buy some of the roles and a lot of the interaction. The evil cult seems to be defeated by the random sister, which is a tad flimsy, though jealously from within being Renault's real demise. Marsha Hunt gives the best performance, in a pretty dead film. I was kinda annoyed at why the husband played that record, but I remember him saying he was drawn to the place and whatnot so I guess there was witchcraft at work.
Dead Man's Folly (1986)
Forgettable.
In Dead Man's Folly, a real murder occurs during a murder hunt game at a country house, to which Hercule Poirot is invited as an "expert."
Certainly one of the weaker film's of the bunch, with no memorable characters or performances. I'm not sure why we're even here, as none of the characters are even partaking in the murder hunt and no murder prior to Poirot's invitation. We also don't see from the perspectives of the other characters to immerse us. Didn't get into this one, being rather dull and forgettable. The unraveling at the end is also meh, but it's not an awful film or anything though.
Triton Poker: Triton Cash Game Invitational I - Day 5 - Patrik Antonius - Part 1 (2024)
Cash Game Invitational I - Day 5 - Patrik Antonius - Part 1.
Ni blows almost half his stack early navigating waters with Tan holding pocket Kings. Ferdinand and Elton get it all in pre Aces vs Queens and Elton loses a quick 500000 buy-in. Mystery hand, Ferdinand raises the straddle with J's, Tan re-raises to 35000 and Ferdinand calls. The flop comes Q47, Tan c-bets 35000 and Ferdinand calls. The turn a 6 and both check. The river another 6, Ferdinand bets 75000, Tan raises to 195000 and Ferdinand folds. Tan doesn't often call river bets, so I dunno about value betting the J's and the 6 hits the open-ended draw, he had 96. Phua also quickly loses a buy-in with pocket Kings against Ferdinand who flops a set of Queens and already up close to a million. Mystery hand, Antonius in the BB raises the straddle with AQo and Elton the straddler calls. The flop comes 387, Antonius check-raises to 45000 with nothing and Elton calls. The turn a 5, Antonius bets 125000 and Elton calls. The river another 8, Antonius gives up, Elton bets 300000 and Antonius folds. Elton bluffed the river with J9s, having called with a gut-shot, picking up the belly-buster. It's these straddle in position type situations Elton does this. I mean the turn bet probably should've worked, if Antonius had what he's representing, Elton would be drawing to 8 outs and he could also very well be against low cards connected to that board too, but it's well played by Elton, taking it down with the worst hand because of position and willingness. Antonius quickly gets it back from Ni bluffing into his quads. Ferdinand and Elton get it all-in on the flop for a 1307000 pot, Elton's top set holds against the open-ended straight-flush draw and top-pair. Mystery hand, Antonius limps to the straddle, Phua raises to 25000 with QJo and Antonius calls. The flop comes KQ3 and both check. The turn a 9, Antonius bets 35000 and Phua calls. The river a 10, a third diamond, Antonius bets 100000 and Phua calls, Antonius having a flush with K5s, which was already ahead. Handz loses his mind on the last before the break, limp calling with A3s and calling a 140000 river over-bet by Ni with just a 3 against a flush. Elton the big winner, up 687000 at the halfway mark, Tan likewise +668000, Ferdinand +276000.
Saturday Afternoon AFL: Grand Final - Sydney vs Brisbane (2024)
Grand Final - Syd vs Bris, at the MCG.
Bit of a redeem match this one, with back to back runner-ups, unfortunately one will suffer the same fate. Mills remains out of the Sydney side, having missed most of the season. McInerney a big loss for the Lions, replaced by Fort. A big step up in pre-game entertainment with Katy Perry, probably could've put some of this expenditure into umpiring though hehe. Hayward kicks the opener for the Swans some time in and Papley the next with a good finish. Lohmann gets back to back goals for Brisbane. Strong marks being taken, Rowbottom goals from 50. Cameron with nice conversion from the boundary, the Lions up 8 at quarter-time. A random 50-metre penalty to aid a Sydney goal, but Brisbane still pulls away, with Ah Chee converting from 50. Berry adds another and then Hipwood and Lions with a flurry, dominating, take a 46-point lead into halftime. Brisbane continues on in the 3rd and Ashcroft goals out of the stoppage. Rayner takes a big contested grab and the Swans too far back, in a mauling. Similar to the Grand Final the year before last for them, the margin 73 at 3-quarter time. Quite a feat by Brisbane having been 2-5 at round 7 and attacking the Finals series from 5th spot. They go on to win the game by 60 points and claim the Premiership cup, with young Ashcroft winning the Norm Smith. Ashcroft back from a long injury, started the season in round 16, where the Lions won 11 of those last 13 games. Sydney dominated the hit-outs and were +1 at the clearances, Brisbane with much more of the footy via foot and with 19 more tackles applied. The Lions with 2 more inside 50's, for 13 more scoring shots and kicked well. Ashcroft best afield, with 30 disposals, 26 effective, 5 clearances, 6 inside 50's, 436 metres gained and a goal. Ah Chee 14 disposals, 2 contested marks, 4 goals and 2 assists. Neale 35 disposals, 9 clearances, 6 inside 50's, 7 intercepts and an assist. Lohmann 15 disposals, an assists and 4 straight goals. Zorko 26 disposals, 25 effective, 6 tackles, 7 intercepts and 455 metres gained.

Triton Poker: Triton Poker - Cash Game Invitational I - Day 4 - Part 2 - Phil Ivey (2024)
Cash Game Invitational I - Day 4 - Part 2 - Phil Ivey.
Wang again throws away 130000 pre, with Tan re-raising him out, having a strong hand this time. Phua gets a river bluff through for a decent pot, a pot Ivey would've collected. Ivey's seen enough raise and take it pre-flop by Tan, that he successfully calls and then re-shoves for 453000 with A6s. Mystery hand, Chen raises the straddle, Phua just calls with AKs. Flop comes 475 giving Phua a flush draw, Chen checks, Phua bets 16000, Chen raises to 60000 and Phua calls. Commentary saying you don't want to raise them out in case they have a flush draw, makes little sense, as it's not likely to come in if you're both holding them and that would be the dream scenario if they went with it. You don't have anything and less likely to improve if they have a flush draw as well, you're happy to take it. The turn a 6, one-to-a-straight, both check. The river an Ace, Chen bets 55000 and Phua calls, she had a set of 7's, collecting the pot of 264000. I would've lost my money here, Chen did everything possible to get it, somehow Phua saved a lot, though I wouldn't have just called pre. Tan raises with 25s, gets raised by Chen and successfully comes back over the top. Chen gets another set verse Phua and another decent pot. Tan continues to get in Wang's way, as he calls a sizeable pre-flop raise with 74s and shows the winning hand. Mystery hand, Wang raises the straddle to 11000 with 86s, Elton calls, Handz in the SB re-raises to 60000 with AJo and Elton calls. The flop 683, Handz c-bets 40000 and Elton calls. The turn a J, both check. The river a 10, Handz goes all-in for 274000 and Elton calls, he shows 97s for the straight on the river, Handz re-buys. Handz turn and river play makes no sense, if you're going to put it all-in on the river, might as well do it on the turn and not allow the free card which completed Elton's hand. Commentary says it wouldn't have made a difference if he bet the turn, well yes if he bet an amount that allowed Elton to draw, but that wouldn't be good either. Ni raises the straddle with A3s, Elton calls with J10o and Chen as straddler with K8s. The flop comes KQ4, Ni c-bets 16000 and both call. The turn a 3 giving Chen a flush-draw, Ni bets 70000, Elton calls, Chen with the best hand folds. The river an Ace the third heart, Ni check-folds two-pair to Elton's 200000 bet with a straight. Chen would've won with any action had she continued, but assumed her pair was no good and that her flush-draw may also be no good. Elton quickly bluffs off 200000 to Tan, who seems to be collecting every pot. Tan in the blind limps to Tony in the straddle with K4s, Tony raises to 24000 with J8s and Tan calls. The flop comes 653, Tony c-bets to 50000 with a flush-draw, Tan check-raises to 160000 and Tony calls. The turn a 10, Tan bets 382000, Tony goes all-in for 1.3 million with nothing but a J-high flush-draw and Tan folds, wow. Tony's not the guy you want to be messing with in these type of spots, he will put it all on the line and be willing to look the fool. Handz wins flush over flush verse Elton, the hand played slow saving him money. Though he calls down against flopped trips in a raised pot soon after. Handz makes a bad move at the wrong time against Elton's low flopped flush and ends up calling off all his money, but gets some of his money back as they run it 3 times and a fourth diamond comes having a J. Chen then triple-barrel bluffs into Elton with a set and then he gets her to bite again. Ivey rivers the nut-straight against Elton's made lower straight and gets paid off. Mystery hand, Tan raises the straddle and Ni calls with Q5s. The flop comes 594, Tan c-bets 19000 and Ni calls. The turn a Q, Tan checks and Ni's hand is kinda too strong and the board connected to check back here, though building a pot verse Tan is a risk when holding Q5, it's interesting. Ni does bet 46000 into 74000 and Tan check-raises to 175000, what Ni didn't want with such big relative stacks, but he calls. The river a K, a third heart, Tan bets 350000 and Ni calls, Tan was bluffing with A3, Ni winning the pot of 1124000. Chen finally makes a good fold with pocket 9's to Elton's Q's on a 55537 board on the river. After Handz challenging Tony to heads-up, Tony raises his straddle with Q10o, Handz re-raises to 125000 with AJs and Tony calls. The flop comes 10J8 giving Handz top-pair and a flush-draw, he c-bets 75000 and Tony calls with a pair and a gut-shot. The turn another J for Handz, he bets 150000 and Tony calls. The river a 7 making one-to-a-straight, but not Tony's, Handz bets 400000 and I thought Tony might bluff all-in here, I don't think he was considering calling, but he folds. I dunno if Handz could call, but he might cos it's Tony. The pro Ivey willing to check a lot, risking being outdrawn at this table, substantially winning though. Elton a massive winner up 1241000, Ni as well up 1181000 and Ivey +597500, Tony down 1350000, if he had pulled the trigger again, maybe not.
'71 (2014)
Shoot me, let it be over with.
I dislike this film '71 quite a bit, because it's stupid and about nothing.
They should've just shot the bloody women banging trash cans on the ground in the beginning starting a riot... The soldiers armed with guns instead run away, how stupid is that and someone goes and shoots one of the soldiers for no reason, then they hunt the other for no reason. The whole film's about this. The father and daughter who help the soldier feel the need to contact someone, can't they just drive him out or call an ambulance, is that not possible in this stupid place. Someone would've seen them carrying him all that way also. Couldn't understand a lot of the dialect, especially the kid, hardly a word. Were they bombing the soldier and again why and how are they there all chummy if they're the enemy, I dunno. We also have that stupid Barry Keoghan in it, who's always playing an evil character who never speaks. Here he stores guns and jumps at every opportunity to kill someone, but when faced with it, won't... Thrilling performance, lets give him more roles... Difficult to comment on the lead Jack O'Connell's performance as well, because he also barely spoke and well didn't really have much to do. This was just all-round bad.
The Collector: The Supermodel (2004)
The Collector.
Here, a pack is made with the Devil that a woman become a supermodel and can eat anything she wants while her twin sister gains the weight. When the tenure on her agreement nears the end, her deal starts to backfire on her.
Not that the others prior were great, but this one is pretty damn awful. It's the third episode and the lead character's still basically non-existent in terms of depth and presence within the series, so instead we're given this goofy vapid here and gone character chewing up the screen-time. Has no substance, no production value, no reason to be watching and it's time to skedaddle.
Craze (1974)
The right kind of crazy.
Craze is a very peculiar film, taking sacrifices for an Idol. There are plenty of low points, but I like it.
The first intentional sacrifice, for some reason I wasn't expecting, thought it was a spoils moment, then his mood changed so quickly, dance for Chuku he says, hehe. Palance has the right kind of crazy for the role. The assistant seemed a fish out of water, Neal's alibi is so elaborate, yet he has this guy around ready to snap at any moment. The detective point of view is also odd given we only see them investigating the protagonist. The ending makes for a weak sales pitch, as he'd just made a sacrifice, shouldn't the roof have caved-in or something to provide an escape.
The Collector: The Prosecutor (2004)
The Collector.
Here, a Prosecutor frustrated at difficulties convicting the guilty, makes a deal with the devil.
I uh think this is a slight improvement on the first episode, however there's still zero production value, an unintruiging lead character and the lack of substance. The Devil as the little girl's mildly amusing, but how this prosecutor can make a deal to never lose a trial and never question the validity of his success and their guilt is pretty immature. Like I was joking last episode, about the Devil being in the details, that may be the case in making the deal, but on a daily basis that argument doesn't fly.
Saturday Afternoon AFL: The Finals - Second Preliminary Final: Geelong vs Brisbane (2024)
PF - Geel vs Bris, at the MCG.
This game looks about as even as you get coming in, with Stewart returning for the Cats. No goals early, Cameron for Brisbane marks and kicks the opener from the boundary late in the term, the other Cameron replies. The Lions kick the next two right back and lead by 9 at quarter-time. A nice soccer cross by Miers to Henry and Geelong hit the lead, Bailey missing what he'd usually nail. Dempsey with a nice running snap to bounce through on the boundary, then Miers floats one through from the same spot. Everything going the Cats way, taking a 19-point lead to the half. Holmes intercepts to setup a Dangerfield goal. McInerney injured and subbed out. Bailey corrects and Brisbane back in it, up 2 at 3-quarter time. The Lions taking the game on via foot, Ah Chee puts them ahead. Henry marks and goals to cut it to 6 and then back to back to go ahead, both with good conversion from the angle. Ah Chee back again and then Rayner slots it on the run from 50. Stanley gets a soft free late and misses from right on front, Brisbane home by 10 points, going to the Grand Final. The Cats dominated the hit-outs with McInerney injured, Brisbane still +10 in the clearances, with much more of the footy. Geelong with 7 more inside 50's, for 1 more scoring shot, Brisbane the better conversion. Neale best afield, with 31 disposals, 16 contested, 12 clearances, 5 tackles, 460 metres gained and an assist. Rayner 18 disposals, 5 inside 50's, 5 tackles, 557 metres gained, an assist and 2 goals. Ah Chee 2 assists and 3 straight goals. For the Cats, Oliver Henry 15 disposals, 2 contested marks, 6 inside 50's, an assist and 4 goals. Stewart 22 disposals, 2 contested marks, 12 intercepts and 512 metres gained. Humphries 18 disposals, 16 effective, 6 tackles, 5 intercepts and 484 metres gained.

Friday Night Football: The Finals - First Preliminary Final: Sydney vs Port Adelaide (2024)
PF - Syd vs Port, at the SCG.
Sydney come in as heavy favourites, despite Port's recent success against them. Mills out for the Swans, in Rampe's 250th and Heeney 200th. Marshall out with concussion for the Power, with Dixon returning. Burgoyne kicks the opener for Port from a random off the ball free... Lloyd replies from 50 and Sydney kicks the next two. Papley goals after the quarter-time siren, to give the Swans a 9-point lead. Sydney kicking really well on goal, Rozee converts on the run from 50. Heeney with the contested mark and converts and the Swans kick away, not missing, up 25 at the half. Warner goals from outside 50 to start the 3rd and Amartey marking and slotting his third, Sydney winning all the 1on1 contests. Warner with the steal and goal, Boak's second turnover by foot out of defense. The Swans take a commanding 40-point lead into 3-quarter time, heading to a Grand Final. Nothing changes in the 4th, home by 36 points. The hit-outs were even, Port +6 in the clearances, Sydney with much more of the footy via foot and applying 5 more tackles. The Swans with 5 more inside 50's, for 8 more scoring shots and had better conversion. Big surprise Heeney best afield again, with 24 disposals, 2 contested marks, 6 clearances, 6 tackles, an assist and 2 goals. Warner 21 disposals, 18 effective, 5 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 533 metres gained and 2 goals. Amartey 16 disposals, 3 contested marks, an assist and 3 goals. Blakey, Rampe and Gulden among the best as well. For the Power, Aliir 15 disposals, 4 contested marks and 14 intercepts.
3. (Syd) I. Heeney, 2. (Syd) C. Warner, 1. (Port) A. Aliir.
The Collector: The Rapper (2004)
The Collector.
In the opening episode, Morgan asks the Devil for permission to try to save the souls of his clients, upon collecting the soul of a rapper.
While the premise could be interesting, for me being similar to the plot of the "Angel" episode "Double or Nothing," the problem is there's zero production value and it lacks substance. I mean there's just minuscule detail and isn't that where the Devil's suppose to be. ;) The lead character isn't exactly intriguing either and doesn't beckon continuation, however I will give the next episode a try, in hopes that something sparks my interest and draws me in...
1992 (2022)
See it's all about the cheddar, nobody do it better.
In 1992, the verdict of the Rodney King trial, sparks an L. A. uprising in the streets, making it an opportune time for a family heist. Only another family, merely seeking shelter gets in their way.
A solid film, with good writing, reminds me of those I'd watch in my youth. Amongst the thuggery and I'll-willed, Gibson's character's son's a bit of a naive ninny though, partly so wisdom can be imparted. Liotta playing the ruthless villain, a familiar role to him. Holding it back is probably the actual heist, which could've been more intricate and intriguing and maybe a bit more of a conclusion.
Winter's Bone (2010)
Bleak.
In Winter's Bone, an unflinching Ozark Mountain girl hacks through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her drug-dealing father while trying to keep her family intact.
It's a very grim tale, with a solid Jennifer Lawrence lead performance. However not exactly comprehensively put together or tight, but the atmosphere and bleakness ever present. Also odd in that the central figure with which the plot's about, isn't actually in the film at any point, probably needed something in this regard. It's the only time John Hawkes hasn't annoyed me though. I'd say the film's a tad overrated, but alright.
Triton Poker: Triton Poker - Cash Game Invitational I - Day 4 - Adrian Mateos - Part 1 (2024)
Cash Game Invitational I - Day 4 - Adrian Mateos - Part 1.
Mystery hand, Tan raises and Mateos re-raises to 32000 with AKo, Tan calls. The flop 7510, Mateos c-bets 40000 and Tan calls. The turn an Ace and Mateos bets 90000, Tans calls. The river a K giving Meteos top-two, he bets 168000, Tan raises all-in to 336000 and Mateos calls. Tan having a set of 10's taking down the pot of 993000, welcome to the game buddy. Mateos re-buys right away. Tan though soon after checks back where he would usually bet and ends up folding his strong hand to one bet, a bluff by Mateos. Elton raises 10Qo in the SB, Tony re-raises to 32000 with AKs and Elton calls. The flop comes 31010, Tony c-bets 20000, Elton raises to 50000 and Tony calls. The turn comes a K, Elton bets 75000 and Tony calls. The river a blank 8, Elton goes all-in for 289000 and Tony calls. Elton collecting the pot of 897000, Tony re-buys. I dunno if a 24000 raise pre is worth this much on a pair, I think he's gotta make it more or check back the flop. The board represents a 10, pocket 3's or a bluff and Elton didn't raise back pre, so Tony's merely bluff catching. Crazy 4-way hand here, Ni raises the straddle with 6's, Elton calls with A10o, Phua calls with Q9s and Tan calls with 8's. The flop comes 64J all clubs, giving Phua a flush, Ni a set and Elton the nut-flush draw, but it's Tan who leads out 10000 in the blinds, Ni calls, Elton calls and Phua opts not to raise last to act. The turn another J giving Ni a full-house, but Tan again leads for 35000 after being called by three players, dunno what he's doing and they all call. The river a 2 of clubs, Ni bets 180000 and Elton with the Nut-flush calls, Ni collecting the pot of 589000. Ni calls a re-raise pre with J's against Elton's Kings and calls down every street on a low board, for a pot of 1252000. Mystery hand, Wang limps in the BB to the straddle. Ni bets 5000 on a Q5A flop with bottom-two, Wang check-raises to 16000 and Ni calls. The turn a 3, Wang bets 27000, Ni raises to 90000 and Wang calls. The river a J, Ni bets 160000 for some reason, like an Ace is going to payoff that bet from a limped pot, Wang raises all-in for 464000 and Ni folds, Wang having pocket Aces. Commentary talking about how good Ni's hand is, he doesn't have to do any of these things. Ni's played well in many spots, but he's also played for large amounts with little upside in many spots. This hand stands out for all the wrong reasons. Tony with a flurry, but calls a big raise with nothing against Ni on the flop for some reason and hits a pair, giving it all right back. Wang's been having his way in the cash game as the big winner, except against Tan who won't let him control the action, always re-raising back over the top pre, putting more at stake. Elton limps with pocket Aces and Tony raises with pocket Kings, Elton back over the top for a pot of 1485000 and the Aces hold, with Elton haven taken multiple of Tony's buy-ins, he exits. Chen raises with KJo, Mateos calls with A4s, Ni re-raises to 48000 with AQo, Chen re-raises to 110000, Ni calls. The flop comes Q810 and they get it all-in on the flop. The run it twice, Ni winning both, for a pot of 666000, Chen re-buys. Mateos successfully raises Ni off his c-bet with air, with air. Mystery hand, Ni raises the straddle with 910s, Tan calls, Elton raises to 55000 with J's and Tan calls. The flop K73, Elton c-bets 45000 and Tan calls. The turn a 10, both check. The river another 3 a third spade, Elton bets 105000 and Tan check-raises to 345000, Tan having called pre and then calling the raise, puts him on a 3, a runner-runner flush, a set of 7's, 10's or nothing. Elton folds, shouldn't have bet, what's calling there that loses to J's. Tan having AKo with a thin value check-raise heh, also silly. Chen doubles through Tan with Queens vs 9's betting each street on a low unconnected board and the whole table celebrates. Elton the big winner up 975000 at the halfway mark, Phua +406000 and Ni despite big losses +389000, once again the pro not getting the better of the game.
Saturday Night AFL: The Finals - First Semi-Final: Greater Western Sydney vs Brisbane (2024)
SF - Gws vs Bris, at ENGIE Stadium.
Windy conditions, Cadman kicks the opener for the Giants, Daniher the reply halfway through the term. Greene goals out of congestion and Peatling back to back goals. Hogan takes the contested grab and converts, a strong start by the Giants. The umpires start to take over again, turning the tide, GWS up 10 at quarter-time. Ashcroft creates a goal in the 2nd, taking on the entire team. Not good set-shot conversion by the Giants, Hogan dribbles one through though and then Greene the same. The Giants on song, Hogan kicks his third to end the half, GWS up 21. No one goes to Briggs with the ball inside 50 in the 3rd and he eventually slots it. Brisbane starts to capitulate and Hipwood misses from right in front. Green goals from the clearance, the margin getting out. McInerney goals out of the ruck though and Ashcroft creates another goal out of nothing. The Lions coming, surging back in a hurry. Daniels excellent, Hogan another contested grab and converts. The Giants weathering the storm late in the term, take a 25-point lead into 3-quarter time. Umpires harsh to Daniels on multiple occasions, paying 50-metre penalties against. Keeffe never converts these set-shot opportunities, it's an odd selection for me and Brisbane soon back in it, with Fletcher slotting it on the run. Daniher goals from the boundary and the Lions back within 1. Then he takes a big contested grab on Taylor and converts back to back. The Lions get it done, with a strong comeback victory, winning by 5 points to advance to the Prelim. A brutal exit for the Giants, including the loss to the Swans last week from a bigger lead going into the final term. Both great games though. GWS dominated the hit-outs, Brisbane +4 in the clearances, the Giants with more of the footy and 20 more tackles applied. The Lions with 7 more inside 50's, for 2 more scoring shots. Hogan best afield for the losing side, in a dominant season by him, with 13 disposals, 6 contested marks, an assists and 5 goals. Green 33 disposals, a crazy 21 contested, 10 clearances, 5 tackles, 546 metres gained and a goal. Daniels 19 disposals, 5 clearances, 6 inside 50's and 4 assists. Briggs 13 disposals, 55 hit-outs, 5 clearances, 6 tackles and a goal. Greene 12 disposals, 5 inside 50's, an assist and 3 goals. For Brisbane, Ashcroft 27 disposals, 9 clearances, 5 tackles, 469 metres gained and 2 assists. Daniher 13 disposals and 4 goals. Berry 27 disposals, 5 inside 50's, 8 intercepts, 559 metres gained and 2 assists.
3. (Gws) J. Hogan, 2. (Bris) W. Ashcroft, 1. (Bris) J. Daniher.
Friday Night Football: The Finals - Second Semi-Final: Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn (2024)
SF - Port vs Haw, at Adelaide Oval.
Breust's 300th, the Hawks still without Day, come in as favourites. The Power wouldn't wanna lose this one though, with their poor Finals record, here at home verse an overachieving Hawthorn. Dixon out, Marshall in for Port. Rozee kicks the opener for the Power. Burgoyne looking flaky again. Marshall gets the next after some time, Jones having unlikely impact. The Hawks goalless at quarter-time, Port up 13. Georgiades marks and converts to start the 2nd. Dear finally gets Hawthorn on the board halfway through the term, from a free, then another soon follows from a free. Another free and goal, umpires taking over, maybe one of them was there at best. Byrne-Jones settles for the Power. Rioli with a much needed goal for Port on the halftime siren, after having dominated the play, the Power lead by just 9. Port keeping up the good pressure early in the 3rd, though another played for free and another goal for the Hawks. Watson a good contested mark and back to back goals, giving Hawthorn the lead. Back and forth between the arcs, favouring the Hawks, with Weddle breaking the lines. Rioli replies though and then Byrne-Jones again. The Hawks get another free and goal however... Port with a 5-point lead going into 3-quarter time. Watson slots his third early in the 4th, before the Power respond with a flurry. Hawthorn back within a goal, before Georgiades converts the set-shot. The Hawks back again, Byrne-Jones with a game-changing tackle. Port not clever down the stretch, but lucky to hold on, by 3 points with a few Hawks misses, to advance to the Prelim. Of course lucky isn't accurate as Hawthorn got all their goals from free-kicks, but we know that's why they're in the Finals in the first place, so yeah. The Power handily won the hit-outs and were +2 in the clearances, the Hawks with more of the footy via handball and 6 more tackles applied. Port with 9 more inside 50's, for just 1 more scoring shot, though it was enough. Horne-Francis best afield, with 19 disposals, 5 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 2 assists and a goal. Rioli 15 disposals, 3 assists and 2 goals. Logan Evans 22 disposals, 9 intercepts and 570 metres gained. Jones, Sweet, Drew and Byrne-Jones also among the best. For Hawthorn, Scrimshaw 22 disposals, 7 intercepts and 549 metres gained. Watson 3 goals.
3. (Port) J. H-Francis, 2. (Port) W. Rioli, 1. (Haw) J. Scrimshaw.
Triton Poker: Triton Poker - Cash Game Invitational I - Day 3 - Part 2 - Danny Tang (2024)
Cash Game Invitational I - Day 3 - Part 2 - Danny Tang.
No disrespect to Tang, but having him as the pro instead of a big name is underwhelming, when he's a regular. Handz calls a raise pre with 76o as the straddle, hits a full house on the turn and Phua calls with an open ended draw and unlucky for him hits it. A significant portion of this session void of highlights. Ni folds his pair on a low board to the rivered flush of Handz. Elton playing really passive down big, not challenging anyone. Mystery hand, Tan raises the straddle with pocket Aces and Phua calls in the BB. The flop come A34, Tan c-bets 15000 and Phua calls. The turn a 5, Tan bets 34000 and Phua raises to 85000, Tan calls. The river a 7, Phua checks and Tan bets 30000 and Phua calls. Phua having 2's for the straight, Tan throwing away 30000 on the river. Phua had check-raised to 85000 and a higher one-to-a-straight comes, doesn't mean his hand's changed. Phua collecting the pot of 294000. Ni commits his pocket Queens for 900000 to a Tan raise back on a on 41000 pot on the 43J flop. Tan doesn't have anything and Ni takes it, but it's a lot for just a 41000 pot. Mystery hand, Ni raises the straddle with pocket Aces, Yong re-raises to 50000 and Ni re-raises to 170000 and Yong calls. The flop comes Q56 and both check. The turn a K, Ni checks and Yong bets 175000 and Ni calls. The river a blank 2, Yong bets 400000 and we must assume he has a set, likely Kings or Queens based on the action. Yong is capable of bluffing, but he's not the sort of player to overvalue his hand and have AK here, it's either a set or a bluff, given the price pre. Ni correctly folds and Yong did have Kings. Not too long after, Ni raises the straddle with 98s, Yong re-raises to 35000 with KJo and Ni calls. The flop A96 and both check. The turn a 7, a third heart giving Yong the nut-flush draw and he bets 30000, Ni picking up an open-ended check-raises to 100000 and Yong calls. The river another Ace and Ni with a pot-size bet of 250000, Yong folds. Ni's all out swinging, must have been trying to get Yong off a pocket pair 10's or better there. Elton not believing Tan keeps calling bets and Tan willing to bet and call a raise despite overs, which is why one might check. Tan's style is super swingy, Elton down big 1374000. Wang winning the most, up 1194000, Handz +567000 and Tang +380000.
The Iceman (2012)
Sorta dull.
The Iceman, is the story of Richard Kuklinski, the notorious contract killer and family man. When he was finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor his daughters had any clue about his real profession.
I didn't find this film all too engaging, even though I rate Michael Shannon as an actor. I don't understand these comments, if you've seen him in other films, there simply wasn't much room to maneuver and Winona Ryder was just poor. No character really grabbed the attention, despite the strong cast and the events none too interesting, given this genre usually is. The choice to not show the deception and killing of his friend, also doesn't make sense to me.
Saturday Night AFL: The Finals - First Elimination Final: Brisbane vs Carlton (2024)
EF - Bris vs Carl, at the Gabba.
The Lions heavy favourites here, with Curnow still out for the Blues. Docherty returns after a long absence, Cerra in and De Koning as sub. Rayner marks and bounces through the first for Brisbane from 55, after some time Daniher the next from 50. It's all the Lions, as Morris takes the contested mark and converts. Carlton not showing up, scoreless at quarter-time, down 35. Cameron with a nice snap in the 2nd and it continues, an absolute smashing. The Blues still scoreless late in the half, comments on records being broken from back in 1902... Fortunate for Carlton, Brisbane fumbles in the goal-square and Cripps gets the Blues on the board. They quickly add another and the margin 48 at the half. Carlton kicks the first 3 goals of the 3rd-term as well and Morris misses from the goal-square and then another blunder by the Lions running into open goal... haha. Weitering good for the Blues despite the scoreline, Brisbane still with a commanding 40-point 3-quarter time lead. Acres marks and converts from 50, Rayner though marking well, slots his third and the Lions home comfortably. The 28-point margin not representative of the match, as it was already over. Brisbane marginally won the hit-outs and were +2 in the clearances, the Blues with more of the footy via handball. The inside 50's even, the Lions with 10 more scoring shots. Rayner best afield, with 12 disposals, 4 contested marks, an assist and 3 goals. Zorko 29 disposals, 7 intercepts, 611 metres gained and an assist. McCluggage 24 disposals, 6 clearances, 6 inside 50's, 8 tackles and 469 metres gained.
3. (Bris) C. Rayner, 2. (Bris) D. Zorko, 1. (Bris) H. McCluggage.
Saturday Afternoon AFL: The Finals - First Qualifying Final: Sydney vs Greater Western Sydney (2024)
QF - Syd vs Gws, at the SCG.
The winner here probably gonna win it all, though they may meet again regardless. Coleman Medalist Hogan kicks the opener from 50 for the Giants and he gets the next as well, after time passed. Tom Green dominating at the stoppage and Hogan with strong hands. Toby misses the run-in goal and Rowbottom gets the Swans on the board late in the term. Peatling misses from right in front as well, GWS lead by 7 at quarter-time. Soft free given to McMullin right in front and then the same for Papley up the other end, though converts a bit more difficult of a shot. The Giants kick away, before Hayward stops the run, with a classy finish, Cadman replies from 50. Heeney with a one-hand grab and converts, the first mark taken inside 50 by the Swans against the stellar Giants defense, GWS up 21 at halftime. Heeney takes a massive grab on the wing, Rampe goals from outside 50 and Heeney another. The Giants respond though and Cadman kicks his third. McDonald with an intercept and goal on the run from 50, the Giants remain up 21 going into 3-quarter time. Reliable finisher Hayward kicks the first of the 4th for Sydney, Peatling the reply on the angle. Mills not having a great game, Papley though goals from 50. Ward with a quality goal to settle for the Giants. Campbell giving the Swans good energy as the sub, Sydney soon back within a goal. Heeney bounces one through from 60 to tie it up late and the Swans soon hit the lead. Sydney winning by 6 points, with a strong comeback, advancing to the Prelim, it's just their year. A great game of footy. The Swans marginally won the hit-outs and were +2 in the clearances, the Giants with more of the footy via handball and applied 14 more tackles. Heeney best afield with an epic performance, 30 disposals, 18 contested, 2 contested marks, 7 clearances, 5 inside 50's, 5 tackles and 3 straight goals. Papley 16 disposals, 5 inside 50's, 2 goals and 4 assists. Hayward, Warner, Rowbottom and Lloyd among the best as well. For the Giants, Taylor 12 disposals, 11 effective and 10 intercepts. Hogan 12 disposals, 3 contested marks, an assist and 3 straight goals. Green 32 disposals, 19 contested, 10 clearances and 490 metres gained. Cadman 7 tackles and 3 straight goals. Ward 20 disposals, 18 effective and 2 goals.
3. (Syd) I. Heeney, 2. (Gws) S. Taylor, 1. (Syd) T. Papley.
Friday Night Football: The Finals - Second Elimination Final: Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn (2024)
EF - Wb vs Haw, at the MCG.
I could comment on the achievement of the Hawks making Finals in a rebuild period when starting the season 0-5, but then playing through umpires is hardly commendable. Weightman does the same for the Dogs, Day out for Hawthorn. It's a bit windy, Naughton goals right away for the Bulldogs, Meek marks and replies. Darcy goals out the ruck and almost slots another right after, the Dogs up 12 at quarter-time. The Hawks bring it back, both Sicily and Lobb holding up defensively for either side. Newcombe goals out of the stoppage, Dear marks and converts to give Hawthorn an 11-point halftime lead. The Dogs starting to look overwhelmed, fortunate of consecutive Hawks misses. Dear marks clearly out of bounds and slots it... Good kick though. Hawthorn with 6 on the trot, could've easily been 7 with Chol missing from right in front. Naughton converts the set-shot to stop the run, Moore misses from right in front. Watson slots his third, to give the Hawks a commanding 36-point lead going into 3-quarter time. Bontempelli goals from 50 and Darcy creates a goal, but too much time expires between. The Dogs players slipping over all too frequently on the night, Hawthorn home comfortably, by 37 points. The Hawks handily won the hit-outs, the Dogs +7 in the clearances, Hawthorn with much more of the footy and 11 more tackles applied. The Hawks with 20 more inside 50's, for 9 more scoring shots. Sicily best afield, with 23 disposals, 3 contested marks, 9 intercepts and 541 metres gained. Watson a career-high 4 goals and an assist. Newcombe 35 disposals, 6 inside 50's, 6 intercepts, a goal and an assist. Scrimshaw 26 disposals, 3 contested marks and 12 intercepts. Dear 3 contested marks and 3 goals. For the Dogs, Lobb 13 disposals, 12 effective, 5 contested marks and 8 intercepts.
3. (Haw) J. Sicily, 2. (Haw) N. Watson, 1. (Haw) J. Newcombe.
Spenser Confidential (2020)
Enjoyable enough.
In Spenser Confidential, when two Boston police officers are murdered, an ex-cop teams up with his no-nonsense roommate to take down criminals.
A light buddy cop action here without consequence. It's enjoyable enough with Wahlberg as lead and a likeable group of characters. The villain roles aren't up to par however and well it's not the most well put together film. The protagonist's also never worried as well, as he lets his crooked ex-partner know he's coming for him in advance. This sort action's how you get people you care about hurt. It ends with a flimsy resolution to fit. It's true that us dog owners do knowingly naively think our dog's can understand us, hehe.
Friday Night Football: Thursday Night Football: The Finals - Second Qualifying Final: Port Adelaide vs Geelong (2024)
QF - Port vs Geel, at Adelaide Oval.
As good as Port's star midfield is, the talent isn't across the board. They will likely have to be best afield in order to win this, though Stewart a late out for Geelong. Port shaky out the gate and Stengle soccers through the opener for the Cats. Wow, Cameron snaps through a miracle under pressure on the boundary, what a goal! Burton responds from outside 50 for the Power and they too respond. Geelong though controlling the play in the opening term failed to capitalize, taking just a 3-point lead into quarter-time. Stengle again gets the first of the 2nd right away, but Port soon hit the lead. Bowes replies with a good effort goal. For all the rule changes mid season, they haven't called holding the ball once, not that they're wrong decisions, just saying. The Cats with 4 on the trot, make it 5 with Cameron dribbling a nice one through. Rozee with a settler, Geelong up 20 at the half. The Cats haven't converted the set-shots, but with a lot of run-in goals. Butters off sore, the Cats kick the first of the 3rd. Mannagh a great find for Geelong, slots another and the Cats kick further away. Geelong marking too often uncontested in defense. The Power disappointing to not be competitive, goalless for the term. The Cats take a game-winning 55-point lead into the 4th and go on to win by 84 points, advancing to a Prelim. Port handily won the hit-outs, Geelong +4 in the clearances, with significantly more of the footy. The Cats with 4 more inside 50's, for a crazy 20 more scoring shots. Mannagh best afield, with 23 disposals, 7 inside 50's, 5 tackles, 528 metres gained, a career-high 3 goals and 3 assists. Miers 21 disposals, 6 tackles, an assist and 3 straight goals. Guthrie 27 disposals, 26 effective and 11 intercepts. Cameron and Stengle 4 goals apiece. For Port, Bergman 17 disposals, 4 contested marks, 11 intercepts and 490 metres gained.
3. (Geel) S. Mannagh, 2. (Geel) G. Miers, 1. (Geel) Z. Guthrie.
