Perhaps the film industry's slickest DVD extras are churned out by the Eon Production Company, which is responsible for 25 of the James Bond films. There's something to be said for business continuity, when you compare the Agent 007 franchise to, say, the sad state of affairs characterizing John Wayne's 166 (or is it 265?!) feature films, which originated from pretty much every movie studio that ever existed. (I once saw a DVD extra in which Wayne's son Michael proudly led film historian Leonard Maltin into a 10-foot by 15-foot storage unit, showing him a torn cardboard box full of moldering props from STAGECOACH, and bragging how Wayne's survivors were planning to "restore" some of the more recent Wayne flicks with "Q-Tips.") Bond movies are famous for their music; SPECTRE became just the latest to win a Best Song Oscar this week. REMEMBERING THE QUIET MAN seems to be some sort of an intended spoof of a Bond main titles song, or of one of Eon Company's professionally done DVD musical "extras." Someone said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but certainly REMEMBERING THE QUIET MAN refutes that adage.
