Thanks for the insult

Writer-director David Stanley appears on a TV set in "Aftermath" to criticize his viewers for accusing him of directing videos that make no sense. But by the end of this intentionally crummy video he admits it made no sense, his alibi being: "I play a lot of racquetball -sometimes I get hit in the head".

Certainly in a modern world where "so bad it's good" has become a mantra for ignorant bottom-feeding fans (epitomized perhaps by the longevity of such a lousy label as Troma, sort of in the mainstream), it's not surprising that Stanley had a lengthy run at top labels like Vivid and Wicked before more recently being put out to pasture.

But this exercise shows this erratic talent at his worst - belittling both the viewer and himself. One explanation might be that he was too lazy to deliver a real script, and the schmos running Vivid (into the ground, as it turned out a decade later) didn't care as long as he delivered the requisite amount of XXX scenes featuring contract star Briana Banks and other lovelies.

Feature begins with a mock Vivid movie titled "The Green Planet Blues" being watched by Evan Stone on his TV set, accompanied by Briana. It's really poor, bad SPFX, crummy sets and idiotic content of astronaut Voodoo having sex on the planet's surface (his dick sticking out through a hole in his space suit) by who else, an alien played by his wife Nicole Sheridan. After his money shot she takes off his helmet killing him, though of course even an idiot would have surmised that the dick hole should have had the same effect 10 minutes earlier.

Stone keeps popping up throughout the show, hamming it up, pulling faces and acting silly as if Stanley thought that might be amusing. Or more accurately, insulting to the audience.

A parallel non-story features Lezley Zen and Joel Lawrence as robots, or more accurately, executing some near-forgotten acting class exercise of talking and moving around as if they were robots. They entrap Briana (dressed in short-shorts) and lock her in a bathroom that turns out sloppily and pointlessly to be a laundry room instead. Any semblance of continuity is thrown to the winds, as Stanley delivers as promised six sex scenes including some threesomes involving studs wearing alien masks suitable for Trick or Treating.

Young Kim Kane in her early-career blonde phase gets to hump Stone and fortunately Stanley manages to get off the pot in under 80 minutes, the standard running time for vintage Vivid videos. Along the way Stanley cannot resist a visual allusion to Robert Aldrich's classic Mickey Spillane movie "Kiss Me Deadly" but the more I see of David's 100-plus porn titles the lower his batting average becomes and my initial wonderment as to why he never attempted Mainstream filmmaking dissipates.
