Dull, poorly done escapist drama
lor_19 June 2022
Private used to make story films, and the 2-part Private Cafe purports to be one, but this opening feature sets up a dull tale and then fails to tell it, quickly devolving into pointless sex scenes and a sexual "cliffhanger" ending.

It's narrated in voiceover by plain-Jane heroine of stage name Sugar Babe -utterly bland. She leaves her husband Paul Roman after catching him in a thrreesome with two of her girlfriends, and gets a waitress job on the Riviera to start over. Beautiful Sophie Evans (one of the most reliable Euro stars of her era) is her roommate and co-worker at the title cafe, who soon seduces her for some lesbian action.

A gangster type played blandly by that stalwart of French porn movies Alban Ceray is thrown into the mix, but nothing much nonsexual happens beyond hubby Roman searching for his missing wife. Ramon Nomar is introduced briefly in a violent prologue that precedes Sugar Babe's tale.

Lovely locations and effective lighting are about all one can salvage, beside the anal-intensive sex footage, from this poorly English-dubbed mess.
