Quintessential Bond/Lutze roughie
lor_27 September 2011
While dozens of Rene Bond porn films have gotten attention of late from various video companies, Something Weird's "lost in the catalog" issue of GIRL IN A BASKET remains obscure. That's a shame, because out of literally a hundred movies featuring either Bond or her paramour Ric Lutze (or both of them together) this is the biggie.

The anonymous filmmakers demonstrate a real talent for the "roughie" genre, with an obsessiveness on tortured sex rivalling Nagisa Oshima's classic IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES a few years later. Wall-to-wall sex for over an hour becomes tedious, but I'm sure the fans will approve.

Simple premise has Bond bathing and masturbating, looking as fresh and innocent as I've ever seen her. She's walking to a gas station to pick up her car when a couple in a station wagon kidnap her, and it's threesome sex for the duration.

Ric Lutze as "Daddy" literally dominates the film (and Bond), barking orders, threatening his captive with a knife and later torturing her with the old "pliers applied to nipples" routine. His partner in crime & lovemaking "Honey" is played by the plain, flat-chested Candy Allison, whose work I'm not familiar with and who was probably unable to escape the porn loops field.

Bond resists admirably as the duo subject her to double penetration with a vibrator and dildo, Ric ends her virginity twice over, and the requisite humiliation is also endured.

Film's title stems from an imaginative final sequence, where each of the leading ladies is suspended in a ratan basket-chair, to swivel/hump atop Ric's cock for highly photogenic and unusual XXX shots.

With some repeat footage and a slightly slo-mo romantic interlude tossed in the movie does overstay its welcome, but has to be admired for its nearly experimental single-mindedness of execution. Overall, the torture/porn content is mild by late '70s/early '80s roughie standards, but must have been an eye-opener circa 1970.

for Rene Bond fans only

A porno flick that starts out with a girl being kidnapped then raped in all inputs and even tortured with pliers isn't the kind of movie you would think would have a happy ending. Amazingly enough this one kinda does. There's a tease of a castration but sadly only a tease. Woulda made the movie a lot more exciting but probably not for the perverts in the audiences back then. Only in 1970's porn would rapist fantasies like this exist. It sure was a different time. It's worth seeing this oddity just for the sickness aspect of it but it does get pretty boring after awhile. The movie's only a little over an hour long but it's all basically one scene of three people screwing. Rene Bond looks good throughout her "ordeal".

Girl in a Basket (1975)

*** (out of 4)

A virgin (Rene Bond) is walking when a car pulls up. Daddy (Ric Lutze) and Honey (Candy Allison) kidnap the young girl and take her back to their house where they sexually abuse her. However, soon the virgin begins to like it.

GIRL IN A BASKET is a pretty trashy "roughie" that was obviously made to take advantage of the hardcore theater scenes and that's pretty much it. There's no talent in the filmmaking, the camerawork is rather ugly and on a technical level there's really nothing impressive here.

With that being said, if you're a fan of the genre or the cast then there is enough sick stuff here to make it worth watching. I will freely admit that I love Rene Bond and would watch her in anything. Her character here actually goes through quite a bit and that includes being sexually abused by both of the creeps and there's an even earlier scene where she must pleasure herself.

Bond is always cute and attractive and she handles the "virgin" role quite well but also manages to turn on that sexuality once that kicks in. Lutze does what he does best and Allison was also good in her role. Look, there's nothing here. No story. No development. This here was just meant to be a trashy picture and that it is. The film will appeal to fans of Bond or those who enjoy seeing this type of roughie.
