May is newly determined to win the next Pokémon Contest. She sets out to catch a Wurmple in hopes it will evolve into a Beautifly like Janet's, while her friends sit down to lunch. She crosses paths with Team Rocket and a swarm of angry Beedrill, but a ranger named Franklin and his Heracross rescue her. Back at the campsite, an identical boy, also named Franklin, challenges Ash to a Hoenn-style Double Battle, in which each Trainer sends out two Pokémon at the same time. Pikachu finally learns Iron Tail, although not perfectly. May, with the first Franklin's help, catches Wurmple and hurries back to the campsite. It turns out that the two Franklins are twins named Forrest and Forrester Franklin. Forrest is inspired by May's independence, and decides to go on his own journey. It's good news all 'round--even for Team Rocket, as Jessie manages to catch a Wurmple of her own!

Ash and friends finally reach Rustboro City, and Ash puts his Gym battle plans on hold as our heroes tour the Pokémon Trainer's School. Max takes to the school like a natural, but one boy at the school, Tommy, starts a rivalry with him. The boys get to have a practice battle, and Max is so caught up in strategy that he forgets to use offensive moves. Team Rocket interrupts the battle by stealing all the school's Poké Balls, and all the kids in the Trainer's School class work together to defeat Team Rocket. Max, Tommy, and the other kids become good friends, and Ash gears up for his battle the following day with Roxanne, a Trainer's School teacher and the Rustboro Gym Leader!
Sat, Jan 10, 2004
Time for Ash and May to battle the Rustboro Gym Leader, Roxanne. May decides she wants to become a Pokemon Coordinator, and enter contests. So Ash and Roxanne have their match. Ash uses Treeko and Pikachu for his battle, but in a Rock type Gym, electrical attacks won't be as effective, it's time to see if Pikachu's new attack move is ready.
Sat, Jan 17, 2004
Our heroes split up to do some shopping in Rustboro City before catching the ferry to Dewford Island, where Ash's second badge awaits. Max accidentally breaks May's PokéNav and doesn't know how he will face her. Luckily, he meets the president of the Devon Corporation, Stanwick, who fixes the PokéNav and gives Max a personal tour of the company's headquarters. While they're there, a mysterious intruder with a powerful Crawdaunt steals some important test tubes from a machine that's said to restore Pokémon fossils! Max and Stanwick follow the intruder and corner him on the roof. Team Rocket shows up and tries to pickpocket the stolen goods for themselves. They fumble the test tubes, though, and Max catches them. He's a hero for a day! Unfortunately, the intruder gets away. Could he have been a member of Team Aqua?

May is using an outdated map of Rustboro City, and the group gets lost trying to find the ferry to Dewford Island. To make up for it, May looks for another boat to take them to Dewford Island. She meets Briney, a retired sailor, who promises to carry her and her friends across the bay. But when she brings the gang to meet him, he has inexplicably changed his story and sends them away. After Officer Jenny tells them that the same Team Aqua thief who broke into the Devon Corporation the day before has been spotted in the area, our heroes put two and two together and realize Briney must be in trouble. In fact, the thief is holding Briney's beloved Wingull, Peeko, hostage so Briney will take him to meet up with the rest of Team Aqua. Our heroes help the old sailor rescue Peeko, but they miss Team Aqua by a hair yet again...
Sat, Jan 31, 2004
On their way to Dewford Island on Briney's boat, Ash and friends make a stop at a beautiful bay for some swimming when they're boxed in by a huge school of Sharpedo. Brock is puzzled because Sharpedo normally travel alone. One of the Sharpedo seems to be the leader, and Brock thinks that if our heroes can defeat that one in battle, the others will stand down. But when the battle begins, Sharpedo collapses from poison immediately! Brock spends all day and night caring for the sick Sharpedo. The next morning, Team Rocket shows up and reveals that it was Seviper's Poison Tail attack that poisoned the boss Sharpedo. The Sharpedo gang chases off Team Rocket and befriends Ash and company.

Ash and friends reach the Dewford Gym at last, but the Gym Leader, Brawly, would rather surf than battle. Disgusted at this apparent lack of work ethic, Ash marches out into the waves and demands a Gym battle immediately! But when the battle begins, Ash is too headstrong to see the flaws in his strategy. He pushes Treecko to fight harder than any Pokémon should, and Treecko is quickly defeated by Brawly's Makuhita. Later, Ash sees Brawly surfing with his Pokémon, and discovers that for this Gym Leader, surfing is a form of training. Ash realizes that he was too hard-headed, and vows to train on Dewford Island for a rematch.

Team Rocket tries another ill-advised scheme to steal our heroes' Pokémon. Everyone gets sidetracked, though, when May and Jessie get into a tiff over which of their Wurmple is cuter. Our heroes chase off Team Rocket, but the two Wurmple get switched in the fray. Ash and company track down Team Rocket, and May and Jessie agree to trade back their Wurmple, but Jessie swipes both of them! Ash fights off Team Rocket, and May gets her Wurmple back. Everyone is impressed that May has grown so much as a Trainer that she could tell the difference between the two Wurmple. May says she owes it all to her Wurmple.

Ash and friends go to Granite Cave, where Steven Stone, the son of the Devon Corporation president, is said to be exploring. Unfortunately, Team Rocket has gotten there first, and has filled the cave with pitfalls to trap our heroes. The pitfalls collapse, sending our heroes and Team Rocket tumbling through the many levels of the cave. In the fall, everyone is shuffled into separate, mixed groups. Separately, each Team Rocket member complains about the others. It takes a lot of exploration and a lot of running from wild Aron for everyone to find Steven. Jessie, James, and Meowth, despite their complaining, are delighted to be together again. Steven, however, is enraged that Team Rocket has disturbed the wild Aron, and fights the villains off. He then finds what he was looking for in the cave--a Fire Stone--and continues his journey searching for rare Evolution stones.

Ash and crew have landed on a beach where they set up camp and to start training for Ash's rematch with Dewford surfing gym leader Brawly. But a mysterious Pokémon is lurking underground. Ash decides to find out the identity of the mysterious Pokémon and try to capture it. Easier said than done. The mysterious Pokémon turns out to be a ruffian Pokémon called Corphish and capturing it isn't as easy as it appears to be as it's capable of knocking out everything in its path including Pikachu and the team's campsite with a simple flailing of its fists. Ash then decides to send out his Willey Treeko to finish the job. Can Ash capture Corphish and train it before his rematch with Brawly?
Sat, Feb 28, 2004
Corphish is a welcome new member of Ash's team, but it's so boisterous that it can be a problem, like when it eats Wurmple's food or hugs May just a bit too hard. Corphish makes itself sick by eating some rope it found on the beach. Ash has forgotten his Poké Balls, so he has to carry Corphish on his back over a mountain and through Carvanha-infested waters to the nearest Pokémon Center. In the meantime, Ash's friends and Team Rocket all manage to get caught in one of Team Rocket's traps--and the tide is coming in! Brock sends Taillow to Ash with an SOS. Ash speeds to the rescue, and Corphish frees everyone from the traps. After that, May doesn't mind Corphish's over-enthusiastic hugs anymore.

Ash and friends get separated from their Pokémon in a deep, dark cave. As the Trainers hunt down their Pokémon, Pikachu and the others get off on the wrong foot with a gang of Nuzleaf, who surround them as they discuss a fitting punishment for these intruders. Guided by Taillow, Ash and friends are quickly closing in, but unfortunately Team Rocket is a step ahead. When Ash and friends arrive, the Team Rocket balloon--with Pikachu and the Nuzleaf aboard--is barely a blip on the horizon! Ash asks Corphish to Crabhammer him into the air, where he grabs onto the balloon and unties the net. The Nuzleaf create a net of their own to break Ash's fall while Corphish's BubbleBeam blasts Team Rocket off once more. With everyone reunited, Ash and the others say farewell to the Nuzleaf and continue on their journey!

Ash and friends meet up with Professor Birch and accompany him as he investigates some nearby caves. Inside one they discover a hidden room, occupied by a young boy named Keanu who quickly drives them out of what he calls his "secret base." Closely tailing Ash and friends, the Team Rocket trio don't respond nearly as politely to the boy's request, instead kicking him out and claiming the base (and Keanu's team of Nincada) for themselves. The plot thickens when the two rival Hoenn gangs, Team Aqua and Team Magma, infiltrate the very same cave, thinking it to be the legendary Cave of Origin. Eventually, they realize their mistake and leave the secret base to Team Rocket--but not for long! Our heroes are right there to stop them and get Keanu's Nincada back.

Corphish's bad attitude shows no signs of improving, and Ash plans to humble it a bit by putting a good scare into it deep inside an abandoned mine. Little does he know, however, that Jessie, James, and Meowth have already infiltrated the mine. When Meowth forges a pact with a Sableye living inside the mine, it seems the biggest scare is yet to come! Meowth and Sableye terrorize Ash and company when they arrive in the cave, capturing Corphish and Pikachu. Jessie and James arrive, and Sableye realizes it was tricked into helping them. Jessie throws a smoke bomb, causing the shaft to cave in. Sableye leads our heroes out of the cave, then sides with Ash to help free the captured Pokémon and send Team Rocket blasting off again. Afterward, everyone expresses their gratitude to Sableye--especially Corphish, thereby proving the plan to change its attitude was a success after all!

As Ash's training draws to a close, a young Trainer named Shauna, who claims to be the top apprentice of Gym Leader Brawly, challenges him to a Pokémon battle. Before they are able to complete their battle, however, Brawly himself shows up to warn of an approaching hurricane. It seems his warning is a touch too late, though, as heavy winds and rain begin buffeting the shore where Ash and friends have pitched camp. While the storm draws nearer, they carefully make their way along a treacherous mountain path, seeking shelter in a cave, where Brawly explains that Shauna isn't really his apprentice--he hasn't let her join him because she is too headstrong and needs to learn control and patience. After the storm passes, she finally proves herself in a battle with Ash, and Brawly accepts Ash's challenge for a rematch!
Sat, May 15, 2004
Ash and friends cross the sea to a secret island arena for Ash's rematch with Gym Leader Brawly. Ash's skills have improved since the last time, and his Corphish and Treecko make the most of the rocky and watery environment. Brawley's less-nimble Machop is down for the count, and Brawly is down to using the ponderous Hariyama. But Ash isn't the only one who's been training. Hariyama surprises Ash with new reserves of speed and endurance. Ash keeps his cool, and has Treecko Pound away at Hariyama's legs. It's enough to disrupt Hariyama's balance, and Treecko Pounds its way to victory. Brawly gives Ash the Knuckle Badge and his admiration. Most Trainers, when they rework their strategies, scrap even the parts that were worth keeping. But Ash remembered his own strengths as a Trainer, and kept his head even when things happened that he didn't expect.

Ash and friends foil a Team Rocket kidnapping scheme on the high seas, but are then left high and dry themselves when Team Rocket's boat breaks down. Drifting with the tide, they eventually come to rest against an abandoned ship. On board, they meet one of the ship's original passengers, Tommy, who has returned to search for the Marshtomp he was separated from when the ship first ran aground. Happy to have found a ride back to land, Ash and friends offer to help this passenger in his search. As the group moves below deck, however, their party begins disappearing, one member at a time. The shadowy figure responsible turns out to be a Swampert, which evolved from Tommy's Marshtomp! The two are reunited, and our heroes are released. Tommy sees that the ship has become a haven for Water-type Pokémon, and stays on board with Swampert to fix it up into the best home it can be.

Two weeks before the Slateport Pokémon Contest, May is training hard, trying to get her Beautifly to master its Silver Wind move. A battle with Ash's Taillow draws the attention of a retired Coordinator named Mr. Big, who offers May a Pokéblock case and invites our heroes to his shop for some useful Bluk Berries. Unfortunately, Torchic gets ahead of the gang and gobbles them all up! To make matters worse, Mr. Big had hoped to use them in his fireworks display that night. May is determined to replace the berries, but her rival Drew gets there first and demands a battle. May's Beautifly manages to attack Drew's Roselia with Silver Wind, but just then Team Rocket shows up to steal the berries! An attack from Roselia blasts them off again, Torchic catches the falling berries just in time, the fireworks show goes off without a hitch, and Drew makes plans to battle May again in the contest!
Sat, May 22, 2004
While May trains with Beautifly, Nurse Joy enlists Ash and Max to babysit a Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, one of which will be the first partner of a brand-new Pokémon Trainer named Stephanie. Torchic proves to be the most rambunctious of the group, and when Ash sends several of his Pokémon to convince it to behave, it evolves into a Combusken! Moments before the new Trainer arrives, Max and Ash think fast and ask May's Torchic to stand in for the evolved Pokémon. Despite Ash's protests, Stephanie decides she wants this Torchic for her first Pokémon, but just then May returns from training and reclaims her Torchic. After Combusken fends off an attack from Team Rocket, Stephanie decides to take Mudkip instead--and her father chooses Treecko as his own first Pokémon! Nurse Joy asks Combusken to stay at the Pokémon Center to protect her patients, and all's well that ends well!

May tries to stay calm, but her nerves are on edge. Drew and his Roselia put in an impressive performance, and then Robert and his majestic Milotic win the hearts of the crowd. When it's finally May's turn, she's so nervous that she stumbles during her routine, but her Beautifly makes up for it by pulling off its best Silver Wind yet, and the judges award her the last spot in the second round--a battle challenge! She faces off against Drew, whose Roselia defeats her Beautifly and then falls to Robert's Milotic. Robert wins the ribbon, and Drew and May are both determined to do better next time!

Having at long last completed her Pokémon Contest, May suggests a day of recreation in Slateport City before moving on. While she and Brock shop in the city's famous market district, Ash and Max check out the Oceanic Museum. When the boys discover the museum is closed (even though it's supposed to be open every day), Max decides to climb the wall to get in--and is mistaken for a thief! Ash and Max explain the situation to Captain Stern, the museum's curator, who lets them take a look inside. He's just gotten a new rock sample, which attracts the attention of both Team Magma and Team Rocket! Ash and Captain Stern manage to repel both groups of villains, but the rock sample is broken in the process. Captain Stern isn't sure what Team Magma is up to, but he decides to continue his studies on the remaining piece of the sample.

While cutting through a mountain pass, Ash and friends decide to stop into the local Pokémon Center for directions. Imagine their surprise when they discover it vacated, with no sign of Nurse Joy. The plot thickens when they take it upon themselves to investigate and discover security camera footage of a Shiftry immobilizing Nurse Joy with Stun Spore before carrying her off. Their only clue as to her location is a mysterious entry on Shiftry in the Pokédex, indicating that these Pokémon inhabit only trees that are over a thousand years old. But trees that old don't grow just anywhere! Our heroes find the tree and discover that Shiftry brought Nurse Joy there so she could help a sick Nuzleaf. With some assistance from Brock, the Nuzleaf is restored to health, Nurse Joy is returned to the Pokémon Center, and our heroes continue their journey.

When Ash and friends get lost in a dark and foggy mountain pass, the first folks they meet are Jessie, James, and Meowth of Team Rocket, fresh from their latest heist. Our heroes manage to recover a stone the villains stole from a nearby lighthouse, but then get mistaken for the thieves. After things are sorted out, they learn of Thatcher, a young Trainer who's been troubled because his two Cheering Pokémon, Plusle and Minun, are such naturals at supporting other Pokémon that he's lost the confidence to use them in direct battle. When Thatcher decides that Ash must be a hero spoken of in local legends, Ash uses his confusion to convince him to believe in himself and his Pokémon--and sure enough, with his newfound confidence, Thatcher directs Plusle and Minun to charge up the stone that powers the lighthouse, and then send Team Rocket blasting off again!

At the Mauville Gym, Ash and friends are whisked away on a roller-coaster ride and confronted by an angry Raikou--a Legendary Pokémon from the Johto region! An attack from Pikachu reveals the Raikou to be a robot, which shorts out, showering Pikachu in electricity. When the battle begins, Pikachu defeats each of Gym Leader Wattson's Electric-type Pokémon with just one attack, and Ash wins the Dynamo Badge! Afterward, Ash learns from Nurse Joy that Pikachu won only because the robot's malfunction supercharged it with electricity. Our heroes set out to tell Wattson the match was a fluke, only to discover that he's abandoned the Gym in shame! They find him at an old power plant, where the Team Rocket villains are attempting to steal Electric-type Pokémon. Ash and Wattson team up to defeat them, and when Ash tries to return his Gym badge, Wattson tells him to keep it as thanks for helping him free the Pokémon.
Sat, Sep 11, 2004
After winning at the Mauville gym against Wattson and earning the Dynamo Badge, Ash and the gang decide to travel to Fallabor Town for May's next Pokemon Contest and then to Lavaridge Town for Ash's next gym battle. While traveling, the gang stumbles upon a watermelon field. This gives Ash an idea to teach Treecko how to use Bullet Seed, ever since that battle with Shiftry (Season 6, Episode 37), by spitting watermelon seeds for practice. Suddenly a Grovyle attacks the group as a misunderstanding. The girl then apologizes for her mistake and shows them around the field. Team Rocket then appears to steal the watermelons from the field. Grovyle tries to fire bullet seed but they sealed up its mouth with some tape. So it's all up to Treecko. Ash believes that Treecko can use Bullet Seed, so it tries but fails. The second time around it works and sends Team Rocket to blast off again. In the end, Ash spits seeds towards Treecko and makes it mad and uses Bullet Seed.

Ash and friends have the good fortune of passing through a small town just prior to the opening of a summer festival in which Illumise and Volbeat perform a dazzling light dance. Despite their impeccable timing, however, it seems they may not be able to enjoy the show when the male half of the performing duo falls head over heels in love with his partner and grows too nervous to perform in front of her. With the festival just hours away, May takes it upon herself to coach this young trainer in the ways of love.

As Ash and friends rush along a mountain path toward the town where the next Pokémon Contest will be hosted, a tremendous shape comes suddenly crashing down on them from above. They soon realize it to be a Bagon--a Pokémon whose head is as hard as steel. Needless to say, this is the last Pokémon one would want to see falling quickly toward one from above. Before Ash engages the Pokémon in battle, however, it's trainer shows up and explains that her Bagon is cliff diving simply because it dreams of flying, though this won't be a possibility until it evolves twice. Always suckers for an impossible dream, Ash and friends promise to do what they can to help.

Ash and friends get more than they bargain for when supplies run low and they accept a meal invitation from a family of strangers. It turns out the family are incredibly enthusiastic in their support of a son who recently left home with visions of greatness as a Pokémon Champion. As a tribute of sorts to this son, they engage in as many Pokémon battles as they can themselves. Their enthusiasm makes them formidable opponents as they face Ash, Brock, and Max--who borrows one of Ash's Pokémon for the occasion--in four on four contest. Things grow all the more complicated when this favorite son, having lost his dreams of glory, returns home, unwittingly bringing Team Rocket along with him.

When Brock suggests a pit stop in an out-of-the-way Pokémon laboratory, no one suspects his real motive. Reading an article about the Pokémon aromatherapy experiments held in the facility, he had been immediately smitten by the attractive researcher who runs it. Brock is no luckier in love today than might be expected, though, and the outing becomes more educational than romantic as he and his friends tour the aromatherapy research facility. Above and beyond any continuing experiments, the greatest aromatherapy testimonial comes when a mixture of fragrances alone cures completely an ailing Skitty May had just found. When Team Rocket arrives on the scene, however, they quickly put an end to an relatively uneventful day, stealing both the lab's fragrance reserves and Misty's Skitty.

Sat, Oct 30, 2004
Max meets up with another Pokémon enthusiast who goes by the same name, but despite their shared interests and shared name, the two get off to a rocky start. As they continue to bicker, Team Rocket launches a surprise attack, separating May, Max, and this new Max--the youngest and least experienced Pokémon trainers--from their friends. Without Ash and Brock to protect them, these children nonetheless work to find their new acquaintance's missing Surskit before Team Rocket does.
Sat, Oct 30, 2004
The gang finally arrives in Fallarbor Town to begin the Pokemon Contest. While there, May meets a new coordinator named Grace as well as her Pokemon, Medicham. Sat, Nov 6, 2004
May finally reaches the Fallarbor Pokémon contest, but her hopes are initially dampened when a mysterious, redheaded trainer bearing a strong resemblance to a certain member of Team Rocket steals the show with a nearly flawless performance. When Brock's hunch that this contestant's performance isn't all above board proves true, Jessie shows her true colors, opting to face Ash and friends in outright Pokémon battle. Team Rocket is quickly defeated, but for May the true challenge is just beginning, as she moves on to the next stage, hoping to somehow earn her first Pokémon Contest victory ribbon while facing a host of seasoned adversaries.

As they press forward toward the next gym, fate reunites Ash and friends with Thatcher, who since their last meeting has been inspired to employ his Plusle and Minun in enhancing Pokémon battles by enthusiastically cheering on the battlers involved. When he actually witnesses Thatcher and other pep squad members at work, however, Max keenly suspects that they are being misled to not simply cheer competitors on, but actually breach official rules by misusing the abilities of their various Pokémon from the sidelines.
Sat, Nov 13, 2004
May's Skitty could hardly choose a less opportune time to misbehave, when it lets itself out and draws the ire of local Slugma and Numel just as Ash and friends pass through the infamous Fiery Path. Fortunately, a local shows up to guide them past the dangers of the Path, ably using her Sentret to direct a group of Numel that is under her care. While Ash and friends enjoy her hospitality and the placid life on her Numel ranch, however, Team Rocket lurks in the background with dreams of capturing and taking advantage of the Numel's ability to create nearly limitless heat, selling them into lives of servitude.

Our young heroes face one last challenge--a high-altitude crossing--before reaching the next gym in Fallarbor. Greeted by a welcome committee promising a free tour of the area, Ash and friends first celebrate their good fortune. These guides, however, reveal first their ineptitude, then their ill will, and finally their true identity--as Team Rocket--but only as parallel plots by Teams Aqua and Magma trap Ash and party high above the valley below, making Jessie, James, and Meowth the least of their concerns.
Sat, Nov 27, 2004
Brock falls in love at first sight with a beautiful trainer he chances to meet in the course of travel. When he learns that she is desperately seeking a lost Spinda that she credits with bringing her many years of good fortune, he quickly volunteers himself and friends to help in the search--forgetting the fact that they had been rushing toward the next Hoenn gym. To the surprise of all, using massage techniques alone, the therapist is able to heal May's Skitty completely. Shortly thereafter, Ash and friends see their chance to repay this therapist, when Team Rocket kidnaps her Delcatty, planning to present their boss with a Skitty & Delcatty evolutionary set.

When Jessie, using a false identity, enters the contest and makes a surprisingly strong showing, both May and her friend must struggle to keep from being ousted. Meanwhile, having gotten wind that her son has entered the Pokémon Contest, this friend's mother heads directly to the contest arena herself.
