Time will tell if Michael Flatley can dance his way out of this one. The “Lord of the Dance” creator and “Riverdance” star, who’s scheduled to perform at President Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities on Friday, is being sued by a publicist who claims that Flatley has stiffed him on more than $42,000 in fees and expenses. In the suit, filed in New York Supreme Court on Thursday, Origlio & Miramontez Company says that Flatley owes $42,246.56 for PR and theatrical press agent services related to his production of Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games at New York’s Lyric Theatre between...

The Late Show took a somber tone at the end of Friday's episode as Stephen Colbert got emotional while speaking about the deadly Paris attacks. Sunetra Sarker and her professional partner Brendan Cole have become the ninth couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing.
Bottom of the leaderboard after last night's 'Around The World' show, the Casualty actress and her partner found themselves in the dance off against Mark Wright and Karen Hauer.

Appearing in the dance off for the third time this series, Sarker and Cole reprised their Rumba to 'Girl From Ipanema', while Wright and Hauer performed their Salsa to Elvis Presley's 'Viva Las Vegas'.
Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all elected to keep Wright and Hauer in the competition, which meant Sarker and Cole were sent home. Head Judge Len Goodman agreed with the verdict of his fellow judges.
Describing her time on the show as a "once in a lifetime opportunity", Sarker praised her partner and fellow dancers.

6 Dance Lesons In 6 Weeks, is that even possible? Apparently it is, so you better get ready for another romantic comedy which comes from director Allan Seidelman! The whole thing is based on Richard Alfieri‘s Broadway play, and what definitely sounds great is that Jacki Weaver has joined the cast which already includes Gena Rowlands and Cheyenne Jackson. Allan Seidelman will direct the project from Alfieri’s script which revolves around: …an elderly woman who hires a much younger and much more energetic dance instructor to give her one-on-one lessons for six weeks. Throughout the weeks and lessons, they develop an intimate friendship, putting aside...

Learning to jig and reel as well as the traditional Irish step dancers in "Riverdance" doesn't happen overnight. The dancers start young, train hard, and spend a lot of money on instructors, dresses, wigs and accessories.
"The Big Jig," premiering Tuesday, Oct. 9, on TLC, steps into the world of competitive Irish dancing. The one-hour special takes a look at five girls ages 10-12 heading to the 42nd World Irish Dance Championships in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Among the dancers is Marina Flatley-Griffin, 12, who has to overcome heightened expectations because her uncle is the "Lord of the Dance" himself, Michael Flatley. She's hoping the judges focus on her feet, not her family name.
Emily Marino, 10, has won Nationals three straight years. Her older sister Julia, 11, hasn't had the same success. "I hear comments like 'Emily's the one that won Nationals four times, and Julia's the one that broke her foot,' " Julia O'Rourke tells Zap2it.

Exclusive: Harvey Weinstein is getting into the Michael Flatley business – and sidling up to Honey Boo Boo, too. The Weinstein Co. is developing the first World Dance Awards with Flatley, aka The Lord of the Dance. Meanwhile, I understand Flatley will make a surprise appearance at the keynote speech Weinstein will deliver later today here in Cannes. I’m also hearing that TWC’s Trailer Park Lives is being picked up by TLC with a full series commitment. The reality show will air in January as a companion piece to Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Another new docu-soap, Rodeo Girls, is being pitched here at Mipcom as “Ice Road Truckers meets Housewives.” The Weinstein Co. has been in the TV business for a while with former Miramax exec...

This is no "Riverdance."
TapTronic, a group which describes itself as "a progressive fusion of Irish dance and electronic music," has premiered its first video.
TapTronic draws from old-style Irish step dancing to add an extra layer of "step" to dubstep dancing. Like traditional step dancing, there is an emphasis on making percussive sound with one's feet, and the dancing space is limited to a small area.
While troupe members Zach Klingenberg and Ciaran Plummer have both toured with Michael Flatley's "Lord Of The Dance," this new project is a little different.
Scroll Down For TapTronic's Dance Video
Their first video remixes an Adventure Club dubstep remix of the Flight Facilities hit "Crave You."
The Flight Facilities original is by and large a pop song. The Adventure Club remix chops and screws the beat into the dubstep format, an electronic genre that started in the United Kingdom and has since spread around the world.

New York — When Julian Erskine last saw the American touring company of "Riverdance," he had to smile.
He was in the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on an October night in Costa Mesa, Calif., watching the high-stepping cast electrify the crowd once again despite more than a dozen years crisscrossing the nation.
"To be at the back of a hall with the audience jumping to their feet at the end of the show after all these years, it's just so gratifying and just so pleasing," says Erskine, the show's senior executive producer, by phone from Dublin.
Even so, the end of the road is nearing. "Riverdance" is currently on an 82-city farewell North American tour that's winding across the U.S. and Canada and ends in June. This month, the show left Texas, hit the Southeast and next goes to the Plains.
"It's certainly emotional to be saying goodbye," says Erskine.

The Music Room (Criterion) Satyajit Ray’s 1958 masterpiece looks at the life of a fallen aristocrat as a metaphor for an India that is not only becoming Westernized, but modernized technologically and culturally beyond recognition. When the beloved music room, where he has hosted lavish concerts in the past, starts falling into disrepair as attendance drops steadily, the man realizes his way of life is vanishing. Stunningly shot in black & white, one of Ray’s finest works. I leapt at the chance to interview Michael Flatley. I mean come on, there can only be one Lord of the Dance. Today marks the Blu-ray and DVD release of the most recent (and final) iteration of Flatley's signature show, which was shot live in Dublin and London, and screened in 3D this past March. Lord of the Dance incorporates Irish folklore with staggering sets, lighting, special effect and costumes to create an enchanting evening of fancy footwork not soon, if ever, forgotten.

There are certain conventions all sports movies must require. In documentary it’s considerably more difficult, as a filmmaker must make choices on who to follow with your camera. In any documentary (or even in any film if we shall get truly technical) the pressure is mounting even more so when it is for a finite. You only get this one shot: a season and/or the tension building to the final round.
Jig, an audience award finalist from this year’s crowd HotDocs, making its way to theaters in New York and Los Angeles, is not exempt from the conventions that make a sports film crowd pleasing – a tense competition. This time, the sport is Irish Dancing. The film follows several young dancers competing for gold including an American from California who has been transplanted to Ireland by his parents when they discover he has a talent.

“This is going to be the greatest show of my life,” dancer, choreographer, flautist, and professional egomaniac Michael Flatley informs us as Lord of the Dance 3D opens. And it will be: because every show is the greatest show of his life... at least for values of “great” that encompass cheese-a-riffic Vegas razzle dazzle: Flatley puts the tacky in spectackylar, and he is oh-so proud to do so. Three-dee cameras shot several nights of his Lord of the Dance stage show, the global phenomenon that is like what might happen if Albus Dumbledore used some powerful illegal magic to meld Busby Berkeley, pagan ritual, Cirque du Soleil, and Irish folk dancing... on ice! (No, not really on ice. That’s coming in 2012. No, not really. But now that the idea as been planted in Flatley’s head...) The dancing is pretty amazing, it must be said: the dancers seem to...

The international phenomenon shows no signs of flagging nor does its indefatigable originator Michael Flatley. Asked this week if he was surprised himself how big it got Flatley told TNT magazine: "I kind of knew it would be – I’d been touring the States for years, and I toured with a wonderful group called The Chieftains, a famous Irish band who do international music, but they hired me as their soloist and I danced. I sort of created my own style of dance, moving away from the Irish thing a little bit. I was very lucky that they let me do that. Night after night I tried new things. I danced to different kinds of music and each night we’d get standing ovations and I thought: 'We’re on to something here.

Lord of the Dance has been seen by over sixty million people in sixty different countries with over a billion dollars in ticket sales and has played to the likes of George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin, now comes to the big screen in eye popping 3D.
The story, so much as there is one, involves a battle (consisting mainly of a series of dance-offs) between a dark lord and the Lord of the Dance (Michael Flatley, the creator, producer and director of the original stage show) aided by a Puck-like sprite. That is really about it narrative depth is not something anyone seems particularly concerned with – the story is wrapped up about sixty minutes in yet the dancing unfortunately continues for another half an hour at least.
There are things to be admired about Lord of the Dance 3D. The choreography is fairly spectacular with...

Ho boy. I saw Lord of the Dance at Radio City Music Hall in New York a godawful number of years ago, and I remember being flattened back into my seat by what was basically Riverdance gone Vegas. (I’d also seen Riverdance at Radio City.) God bless Michael Flatley: he’s still the same, all these years and millions later. I, however, question the suggestion of the announcer that you haven’t seen Lord of the Dance unless you’ve seen it like this. If you’ve seen a live show, you’ve seen it in proper 3D, and didn’t need to wear special glasses to experience it that way. Lord of the Dance 3D opens in the U.K. on March 13, in the U.S. on March 17, and in Canada on March 20.

Flatley says this video is a step towards getting his show seen by people who either can.t afford to go or who just live too far away to make a trip. It.s...

Michael Flatley is finally filming his Lord Of The Dance stage show and in 3D. SuperVision Media is handling the U.S. limited-engagement theatrical release scheduled for St. Patrick's Day 2011. UK-based Nineteen Fifteen Productions is producing in association with ITN Productions, part of ITV. Lord Of The Dance has been a huge hit for Flatley: he sold out 13 consecutive nights at Radio City Music Hall in New York and did a 21-night run at London’s Wembley Arena. The Irish jig spectacle has been seen by over 60 million people in 60 different countries. Yet Flatley says he wanted to film the show to give people in smaller towns and cities an opportunity to see it.

Forget about Avatar, forget about 3D football, forget about, er... 3D Flying Monsters with Sir David Attenborough. This is what the third dimension was invented for – Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance in – in 3D! "Unprecedented access to Flatley's performance gives the viewer an unparalleled sense of the scale of the show as never seen before," says the PR puff for the new big-screen version of the must-see dancefest, produced in association with the good people of ITN. "Lord of the Dance tells a timeless story based on Irish folklore of good versus evil, and through the media of dance and music it is understood and appreciated by every culture; there is no language barrier," says Flatters. "Never before and perhaps never again will anyone be able to experience Lord of the Dance like this." Never again? Say it ain't so, Mikey, say it ain't so.

Michael Flatley is doing an Irish jig: his "Lord of the Dance" stage show will transition to the big screen in 3D, hitting theaters appropriately on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.
It feels like it's been at least a decade since Michael Flatley has been relevant, but "Lord of the Dance" has been quietly and steadily amassing $1 billion. If there's one thing multiplex owners love is the sound of money. Some 60 million people have seen "Lord of the Dance" and the movie version is hoping to appeal to them. To change things up, Flatley is changing up the sets, costumes, lights and special effects.
Flatley was one of the stars of the Irish dance sensation "Riverdance" before branching off into his own show.

It's Cyber Monday, y'all! An artificial holiday created to convince people it's a good idea to spend money and capitalize on the fact that most people who have internet with lax web filters are going to spend the day shopping online rather than working! As if it wasn't hard enough to motivate people on a Monday under normal circumstances. Don't mind me, though, I'm just grumpy because I had to wake up at a reasonable hour for the first time in about a week so I'll take myself over there now after telling you what's on TV tonight:
8:00pm: "90210" on The CW
"Chuck" on NBC
"Little People, Big World" on Tlc
"Riverdance: Live From Beijing" on PBS. Wait, that's still going? Didn't Mr. Lord of the Dance retire? I'm so confused.

The Greek father-son comedy dance act, who send up Flatley's famous dance routines, made it to the final of the ITV1 talent show earlier this week. For centuries, humans have used dance as a form of communication—moving their bodies to say what words cannot fully express, like "I am stepping it up to the streets," "Mom and Dad, the resort dance instructor and I are having an affair," and "I am driving a car." You can't see him, but Michael Flatley is right offstage during all the performances, resplendent in his special gilded Lord Of The Dance pirate shirt, yelling, "Where are the smoke machines?! We need more smoke machines!" and "You call that a glitter shower? I...

Reclusive Michael Jackson has gone public in a bid to clear up a number of rumous swirling around him. The pop superstar has written to producers at US news show Access Hollywood in an effort to end speculation about his comeback. In a statement from his representatives, Jackson insists the "unsubstantiated rumors" involving him are "erroneous and untrue." These include reports he's planning a concert tour with members of his family, hoping to star in a Las Vegas spectacular and releasing a new duet he recorded with Fugees star Pras Michel. His reps state, "Mr. Jackson has been presented numerous proposals, proposals which he has not solicited, but were presented to him, several of which include performing in Las Vegas. Mr. Jackson is currently reviewing and evaluating each proposal. He does not believe that he is under any time constraint for making his decisions. Therefore, reports that he has 'been unsuccessful in finding a Las Vegas casino for his show, resulting in his having to turn to his family' are false." The statement also reveals Jackson "has no current plans to appear or perform on American Idol", and that he "never leased property from Michael Flatly (sic) in Ireland," referring to a report stating he was evicted from property owned by Lord Of The Dance star Michael Flatley.

Irish dance superstar Michael Flatley has been discharged from hospital despite suffering from a serious viral illness. The Lord Of The Dance star has left the London clinic where he was undergoing treatment for the mystery ailment, but insists he is "on the mend". Flatley's miraculous recovery comes after two weeks of speculation over his condition. The dancer was admitted to hospital two weeks ago when he came down with an illness rumored to be a viral infection. Flatley's condition was deemed so serious he cancelled all 20 European dates of his Celtic Tiger show, but a spokesperson maintains his condition is not life-threatening. It is thought the 48-year-old's illness is unrelated to an earlier diagnosis of facial skin cancer in 2003.

Dance superstar Michael Flatley is suffering a serious immune virus and may never dance again. Thursday it was revealed the 49-year-old Lord Of The Dance star has been battling a mystery illness in a private London hospital for the past two weeks. It was rumored to be connected to a face cancer scare Flatley spoke of earlier this year - but the star's spokesperson Geraldine Roche reveals he has a virus that is attacking his immune system and may rob him of his ability to dance. Doctors have carried out a series of tests on him - but are unable to establish what is wrong. After speaking with Flatley yesterday - Roche says, "He is very frustrated that he has been in hospital so long. He is incredibly motivated and driven and wants to get back on stage as soon as possible. But so far doctors have been unable to give him a firm promise on what the future holds and whether he'll ever be able to dance again. He has been inundated with messages of support." A friend who visited the star yesterday reveals, "He was conscious yesterday but was having difficulty breathing owing to a build up of fluid on his lungs. He has been suffering from flu like symptoms for sometime which have got progressively worse." Flatley has cancelled the forthcoming European tour of Celtic Tiger, his latest production.
