Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are hungry, wolfing down sandwiches at the start of our “Kinds of Kindness” interview. They’re in Cannes to promote the singular three-part anthology film, which has been well-received. They laugh a lot. She’s a Yorgos Lanthimos veteran, and just won her second Oscar embodying the free-spirited Bella Baxter in “Poor Things.” After that, it seems, nothing will faze her and she’ll do anything for her soulmate director. Announced at Cannes: Their next movie to be shot this summer, “Bugonia” (Focus Features), a remake of a Korean thriller, co-starring Plemons.

“Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light,” formats “Upside Down” and “Shaolin Heroes” and premium doc feature “Front Row,” offering a novel take on the Ukraine War, are potential highlights on Banijay’s powerhouse lineup at what promises to be one of the biggest presentations at next week’s London TV Screenings.
Mixing third-party pick-ups and Banijay productions, further scripted titles take in second seasons of two Banijay hits, the sumptuous and revisionist “Marie Antoinette,” and “Rogue Heroes,” a big WWII special ops adventure story which hit high ratings on BBC.
Unspooling over Wednesday Feb. 28 at BAFTA in three sessions, dedicated to factual, scripted and then formats, the Banijay@BAFTA lineup, as last year, the spread will give audiences a chance to catch up with high-concept adventure reality “The Summit” and “Deal or No Deal Island,” described as an “epic” recast of the format.

Actress Emma Stone gained wider recognition after starring as Gwen Stacy in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man. She later went on to appear in movies including Birdman, The Favorite, La La Land, and more for which she has been appreciated. The actress recently appeared in the science fantasy Poor Things and was highly lauded for her exceptional work.
Poor Things directed by Yorgos Lanthimos also stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, and more. It is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel about a young woman who is resurrected by a scientist after she commits suicide. The young woman after her resurrection embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Upon its release, the movie has been named as one of the top 10 movies of 2023 and the performances of the actors have been acclaimed. But Lily Gladstone’s fans are not happy with Emma Stone’s recent win.

One major criticism that has become a part and parcel of life in today’s world is the online trolling culture. Surprisingly, these trolls and mockeries are often subjected to actors, filmmakers, and other industry professionals. Therefore, taking a stand, Emma Stone opened up about this online criticism and its impact on the entertainment industry at large.
Emma Stone in Poor Things
Appearing for an interview with The Times, the Poor Things actress Emma Stone noted how, with the surge in access to the internet, artists have started witnessing a rise in criticism. Previously, the right to scrutinize a form of art was only offered to critics, but now, with the power being handed out to audiences, things have started creating chaos in the industry. Amid Madame Web’s failure, Stone touched upon the love-hate relationship between audiences and films, with a valid explanation.

There are 10 nominees for the BAFTA Award for Best British Film, but it looks like the race has narrowed down to two top contenders: “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest.” But which will ultimately win?

The two films couldn’t be more different: “Poor Things” is a fantastical comedy about a resurrected woman finding herself during a journey across the world, while “The Zone of Interest” tells the disturbing story of the commandant of Auschwitz and his family, who live idyllic lives while horrors take place in the background.
Only one of them has a corresponding Best Picture nom, though, and that’s “Poor Things.” That might be why, according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users as of this writing, that film has the lead in this category with odds of 13/2. But it’s going to be close.

Olivia Colman is considered one of the most legendary actresses of all time, and her one Oscar, four BAFTA awards, two Emmy awards, and three Golden Globes only justify her worth to the entertainment industry.
But despite having bagged massively critically acclaimed roles like her most recent one as Queen Anne in Netflix’s comedy thriller series The Favorite, she was reportedly removed from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, on purpose.
Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown
According to recent reports revealed by none other than the very narrator of the 2023 blockbuster film herself, there was a scene in Barbie that included Olivia Colman. However, it was later removed due to reasons unknown.
And now, enraged fans are blaming this very act by the creators of the film to be the reason why Greta Gerwig failed to even get nominated, let alone bag, what would have been her...

Plot: A woman (Emma Stone) is revived and given a new brain by a mad doctor (Willem Dafoe). Initially childlike and naive, she’s seduced into a sexual journey of discovery by a lothario (Mark Ruffalo), only to eventually come into her own as a woman.
Review: Poor Things is similar – in many ways – to Barbie. Well, ok, Barbie didn’t flirt with the boundaries of an R-rating or feature a deformed Willem Dafoe, but it was about a woman who was ostensibly a naive creation coming into her own as a person. Like that movie, Poor Things, which is based on the book by Alasdair Gray, feels like a film very much of its time without making the message at its heart overly didactic. More than anything, Poor Things is delirious, provocative entertainment.

"You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
Harvey Dent was talking about Batman in that quote from "The Dark Knight," but those words may resonate a little differently for actor Nicholas Hoult these days. Last night, word came out that Hoult has been cast as Lex Luthor in James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy," the film that will kick off a new (and hopefully improved) DC Universe on the big screen. In a fascinating twist, Hoult also auditioned for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in that film, but ended up losing that part to David Corenswet. Before that, he made it down to the final two contenders for the role of DC's other most iconic male hero, Batman, in director Matt Reeves' film, before losing out on that role to Robert Pattinson.

Robbie Ryan says “becoming a diplomat and a bit of a politician” was one of the key skills he learned while filming “Poor Things,” the surrealist Frankenstein-esque adventure by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe. The film screened at the Camerimage cinematography festival in Torun, Poland, where director of photography Ryan and Dafoe presented it to a packed screening hall on the fest’s opening night.
“That’s something I wasn’t expecting,” adds the Irish cinematographer known for his previous collaboration with Lanthimos, also starring Stone, “The Favorite.” As Ryan explains, the crafts departments on “Poor Things” were all doing such remarkable work – from Shona Heath’s and James Price’s production design to Holly Waddington’s costumes and Johnnie Burn’s sound design – that he had to learn how to win them over to his side when he needed something special to get a shot.
