The board of governors of the American Society of Cinematographers has re-elected Kees van Oostrum as president to serve his third consecutive one-year term.
The Amsterdam native was elected two years ago to a one-year term, succeeding Richard Crudo. The organization, now in its 99th year, has 370-plus active members and 200 associate members from ancillary segments of the industry. Membership is by invitation only.
The Asc made the announcement Tuesday. Its board also named its roster of officers for 2018-2019, including Bill Bennett, John Simmons and Cynthia Pusheck as vice presidents; Levie Isaacks as treasurer; David Darby as secretary; and Isidore Mankofsky as sergeant-at-arms.
“During this past year at the Asc, we have been steadfastly focused on educational events, international outreach, and efforts to promote diversity and inclusion,” said van Oostrum. “These all support our mission of loyalty, progress and artistry. As we look ahead, we plan to usher in...

We knew it was coming, but somehow it’s still a bit surreal that “Girls” is nearing the end of its run. A show that people loved (and loved to hate) certainly made an impression and arguably paved the way for new shows like “Insecure” and “High Maintenance” to land at HBO. But Lena Dunham and co. are saying goodbye with one final season.

The Last Chance Gas Station from the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a key setting in the 1974 horror classic where Leatherface murdered a carload of teenagers, will soon be the home of a different kind of carnage, as the building is in the process of being restored as a BBQ joint. In a nod to the cult film, the new business – which will retain the same appearance as Texas Chain Saw Massacre – will operate under the name We Slaughter Barbecue, Hitfix reports.

Oscar-winning French director to revisit infamous case of Tennessee novelist accused of murdering wife.
French director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade is set to make a third instalment of his popular real-life crime thriller, The Staircase, revolving around Tennessee novelist Michael Peterson who was accused of murdering his wife in 2001.
Lestrade has followed the case since Peterson’s original trial in 2003 on charges of killing his wife Katherine, who was found in a pool of blood at the bottom of a staircase with injuries to her head.
That trial – at which Peterson was found guilty — was at the heart of Lestrade’s hit, 2004, HBO-backed miniseries The Staircase.
It is regarded as a seminal true-crime series and Sarah Koenig, creator of the hit podcast Serial, has cited it as one of her inspirations for her own episodic, murder-mystery investigation.

It never rains but it pours on Tyneside, and so it proved tonight as a brace from Emmanuel Adebayor helped send Newcastle to a fourth straight defeat on a wet night in the North East.
The North London side continued their march toward a Champions League place as Paulinho notched between two Adebayor goals – taking his tally to nine in twelve games – and a screamer from Nacer Chadli completed the rout.
The visitors started as they meant to go on in the fifth minute as Kyle Naughton cut a ball across the box to Adebayor, who dragged his effort across goal and wide.
And Newcastle were caught on the back foot again a minute later as Paulinho cut into the box and fired off a powerful effort which stung Tim Krul’s hands at the near post.

The Grammys are on Sunday, so let’s investigate its most bizarre category: Best New Artist. Both Christopher Cross and Esparanza Spalding have one. That’s real. And that’s why we’re counting down the ten best winners and the five worst losers. Because maybe we’ll learn something! That’s what I’ll go with.
10. Rickie Lee Jones
Rickie Lee may not have had as gigantic a Billboard career following her Best New Artist win as some of the other stars here, but her debut album is such an assured, unpretentiously poetic, rich listening experience. “Chuck E.’s in Love” and “Young Blood” are whimsical and catchy while “Night Train” and “The Last Chance Texaco” are crackling, despairing portraits. She was also so rad, and that made her bohemian folksiness so much fresher than you’d expect.
9. Sade

London (AP) - Known on the one hand for his starring role in "Lawrence of Arabia," leading tribesmen in daring attacks across the desert wastes, and on the other for his headlong charges into the depths of drinking, Peter O'Toole was one of the acting world's most charismatic figures.
O'Toole, who died Saturday at age 81 after a long bout of illness, was fearsomely handsome, with burning blue eyes and a penchant for hard living, which long outlived his decision to give up alcohol. Broadcaster Michael Parkinson told Sky News television it was hard to be too sad about the news of his passing.
"Peter didn't leave much of life unlived, did he?" he said, chuckling.
A reformed - but unrepentant - hell-raiser, O'Toole long suffered from ill health. Always thin, he had grown wraithlike in later years, his famously handsome face eroded by years of hard drinking.

Debuting at SXSW next month, Some Girl(s) sees Adam Brody take the lead for the dramatic comedy. Given that we all-too-rarely get to see Brody take up a leading role, this is definitely a must-see film for those heading out to Texas, and I’m hoping it will be a smooth road to distribution later this year.
Starring alongside Brody is a brilliant cast of female past loves, and we have our first look here of Brody with his best friend’s little sister, Reggie, played by the rising young Zoe Kazan.
“Based on his play, Neil Labute’s script follows a successful writer (Adam Brody) who, on the eve of his wedding, travels across the country to meet up with ex-lovers in an attempt to make amends for past relationship transgressions. The countdown is on. With only a few episodes remaining in the final season of Gossip Girl, the series tries to bring it this week. Let’s discuss "Save the Last Chance."
Is Derena Back On? Things looked promising when the hour started off with Dan and Serena still in bed together. The two decided they need to make amends with their friends before they even think about getting back together and letting people know about it. Mission accomplished.
So these two are back together. Good idea? Doubtful. Looks like Good Guy Dan really is long gone, proving so when Georgina made a quick appearance to find out that S will be the next chapter. Sorry, Serena, your luck hasn’t improved yet.
Basshole Drama. This arc needs to come to an end. Not only did it take up the majority of the installment, but it led nowhere once again.

On the Nov. 26 episode of 'Gossip Girl', Dan and Serena clean up old mistakes, Blair has one final shot to make it as a designer and Chuck tries harder than ever to sink Bart. We're edging ever closer to the end of Gossip Girl! On the Nov. 26 episode, titled "Save The Last Chance," fans will see Blair (Leighton Meester) enlist the help of Sage (Sofia Black-d’Elia) to make her new line of school uniforms the "it" line, so she can prove to her mother that she is worthy. But will Sage cooperate? Meanwhile, Serena (Blake Lively) and Dan (Penn Badgley) realize their relationship will only survive if they make amends with every person they've wronged, so I don't think we've seen the end of Steven (Barry Watson) yet... Chuck (Ed Westwick) is finally close to getting the evidence he needs to bring down his evil father, until...

Dan & Serena are getting awfully cozy in a new picture from one of the final episodes of 'Gossip Girl.' Could a reconciliation be in the works? With only a few episodes of Gossip Girl remaining, fans are anxiously awaiting the inevitable reunion of off-again couple Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena (Blake Lively) — and it looks like the wait might soon be over! A new picture from the seventh episode of the show's final season, curiously titled "Save The Last Chance," finds the former lovers sharing a quiet moment. We can feel that old flame burning already! Granted, this photo isn't half as romantic as the one of Dan and Serena tying the knot, which was captured by paparazzi last week in NYC's Central Park. Fans are divided as to whether the scene is going to be featured on the series finale, or if it's merely a dream sequence designed to tease us.

This was it. The last chance for the six finalists to prove their mettle and impress the viewers on "America's Got Talent." But outgoing judge Sharon Osbourne made it very clear which act was her favorite, or at least the cutest.

The cheftestants on "Top Chef Texas" (Wed., 10 p.m. Est on Bravo) got a few surprises -- some nasty, some nice -- Wednesday night.
First, there was the return of Beverly Kim. As the winner of The Last Chance Kitchen competition she got to rejoin the fray in the fight for the final four spots, and her rivals were not happy to see her back. At all.
In the Elimination Challenge the gang of five cheftestants were tasked with creating a dish that would make their mentors proud. The best four dishes would send their creators through to the Final Four in British Columbia, with the least successful dish sending someone home.
As the winner of the Quickfire Challenge, Sarah Grueneberg had already judiciously chosen a guaranteed spot in the Final Four over taking away a Prius, so was not up for Elimination.

Chelsea failed to win their opening day fixture for the first time in nine years as new manager André Villas-Boas was unsuccessful in inspiring a convincing performance in his ageing squad, despite quite a few good chances.
There were positives for both managers however, Chelsea fans will be heartened with the performance of Fernando Torres who was tireless throughout and looked dangerous at all times. Stoke manager Tony Pulis too can be happy with a good point for his hard-working side against difficult opposition. Ultimately, it was The Potters’ physical style of play that foiled Chelsea whose passing game although evident in places was ultimately stifled.

The last chance for dancers to take a shot at So You Think You Can Dance glory took place in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Tuesday night's episode. Back and ready to pass judgment, Nigel Lythgoe was joined by Mary Murphy and Mia Michaels, who all got an eye full from a local burlesque dancer named Ariana Rowley. But first, with his red and black striped hair, Bryan Boyer, 21, was the last (and possibly best) hip-hop dancer of the season. Like a marionette without strings, he flopped around the stage, kicking, spinning, slapping and sliding across the stage brilliantly. The judges were all thoroughly pleased by his air walking skills and he moved on, but sadly the breaker broke down in choreography and called it quits. That was about it for the boys. But Salt Lake City provided plenty of talented and beautiful women -- enough to keep a grin on Nigel's face.
