Sex & Nudity

  • The whole theme of the film is prostitution, with women working as "party girls."
  • Drunk man wakes up in "party girl's" apartment the morning after, and she alleges they had sex and manipulates him into a "shotgun wedding," even though he admits to being in love with another woman.
  • Female nudity is implied but never shown. In several cases, women are shown standing next to nude statues.

Violence & Gore

  • A man beats his wife offscreen
  • Women are slapped and get black eyes
  • A girl is pushed off a window and dies

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Alcohol is an important component of this Prohibition-era production. A young woman is given (off-screen) a 'perfume' bath, and it's strongly suggested the bath is gin - bathtub gin being the homemade variety, and perfume bottles being a "hide in plain sight" hiding place for illicit hooch. One party-going male takes a swig from one "perfume" bottle and spits it out, disgusted.
