I don't see a bit of the Tracy an Hepburn chemistry on screen here. I think Spencer Tracy has better comedic chemistry with Dan Tobin.
And yes, the last third is a horror show of trying to put the woman in her place, and is all the worse because it isn't nearly enough of a tonal shift. Tracy is a sexist heel the moment they get married.
But it's also just not funny. I mean the comedy bits. There are valid criticisms that it isn't really a comedy full time, but I mean the clearly funny bit are not. Just one example: Wedding night the famous lost doctor shows up at her door, and the assistant (?) lets him into her bedroom... unannounced. Shock and amazement it's not her husband for laughs I guess but why would that happen?
All the comedy is like that. People are jerks or incompetent, and it's funny.
