Jeez, I'm not a prude at all, and I don't think children should be over-sheltered. However, this movie takes things to an extreme by having the young actress portraying Gosling's character's daughter inserted into all sorts of bordering-on-criminally-inappropriate situations. I found it unacceptable and could not help but feel sad that the actress's parents were okay with her playing this role.
I was raised in the era of "inappropriate" films like National Lampoon's Vacation, too. And even though those movies had kids in them playing rather adult roles, they weren't nearly as over-the-top as this one, since the entire movie is wrapped around the porn industry.
Beyond that... the film is just not funny or interesting. It's about as exciting as clipping toenails. The plot is uninteresting and the story rolls out in an amateurish fashion. I turned it off halfway through, because I am done committing to bad movies just because I started them.
I am taking some of my precious time to write this review, though, in the hopes it will save others from making my mistake! I thought because of Gosling and Crowe it would *have* to be at least GOOD, if not excellent. It wasn't. I don't know how they got roped into this project -- or heck, maybe they think it was a good film. If so, we'll have to agree to disagree, because I most definitely thought this was a stinker.
