I like John Carpenters the thing, and I like DS9. So I like this.
John Carpenter's The Thing is in my opinion one of the most perfect movies ever made, and Star Trek Deep Space Nine is a fantastic show, with great characters and compelling writing. And tv shows have to have a lots of stories for a season, so if they happen to have exactly the same plot (even down to the blood testing scene) then it's kinda like a re-make in my mind. And it works very well. It has enough changes to the original to still be it's own story and a great episode of the show whilst still paying homage in an interesting way to the original The Thing. I really like the changelings as a species and Odo's struggle of associating with them, it's a well written episode and the beginning of the peak of DS9 (in my opinion) with the struggle against the dominion. It also works great as a low key but ominous season finale.
