A Stolen Life (1946)
8/10
twin acting from Bette Davis
1 August 2021
It's the coastal Massachusetts town of New Bedford. Kate Bosworth (Bette Davis) misses the boat to the island and catches a ride with Bill Emerson (Glenn Ford). She's visiting her cousin Freddie Linley and her twin sister Patricia. Bill maintains the lighthouse but he tells her that he's leaving. She is taken with him but Patricia also sets her sights on him. Kate is more shy and struggles to compete with her twin. Bill ends up marrying Patricia. Kate ends up with arrogant temperamental artist Karnock.

Bette Davis is doing good twin acting. She has some help with the different clothes but I would have added a pair of dorky glasses for Kate. In a way, she does this with limited visual cues. It's a compelling story and good psychological drama on top of the amazing Bette.
