Review of Family Ties

Farscape: Family Ties (2000)
Season 1, Episode 22
I'm sorry but this was a very inconsistent episode

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, its my first time watching and I like the show so far. But there were so many illogical instances that I had to write a review. This 8.3 score suggest it was one of the best episode of the season, but it was one of the worst.

  • The whole first season is about Crais' bloodthirsty, irrational revenge chase on Crichton. And yet in a supposedly emotional scene (when Crichton cries... oh god), Crais confesses that he understands now that it was an accident, and that he became more concerned with his career. For 21 episodes he did nothing but sacrifice everything (among his career) to kill Crichton so what on earth is he talking about?
  • Almost everybody on deck consider Crais their mortal enemy, Aeryn even left him to die in agony 2 episodes ago, but suddenly they trust him so well that they let him roam free aboard, even made him a little meal. He could've kill any of them with his bare hands (as he did with his officer), but somehow they decided not to put him in a cell. Horrible writing.
  • Chiana who is a seductress and a thief with little morality feels obliged to make everybody their favorite meal. I can neither believe that the Chiana I know from previous episodes knows how to make Michelin star quality dishes nor she cares to work for what it seems like a whole day to cater to everybodys wishes.
  • The whole kamikaze plot feels very forced from the beginning, it screams that the writers wanted an emotional ending to the season. It doesnt work. Also why on earth wants D'Argo to go on the suicide mission, when only Crichton was required to be on the kamikaze ship? They could've put Crais in that ship, restrict him and autopilot the ship into the oil reserves.
  • I was confident that Rygel had an elaborate plan, but it turns out he was simply trying to sell the crew for his freedom. In previous similar situations where it seemed that he was selfish, it turned out that he had the best intentions for the crew and he was smart. He is very stupid and bigger villain than Crais in this episode.

So pretty much every character is inconsistent with their former self, and the plot is very weak. I will watch the remaining of the show, but I sure hope the writers wont do another Family Ties.
