Starting to Get Convoluted

Warning: Spoilers
In "Sleeper" Spike is accused of siring new vamps around town. Buffy refuses to believe it but the gang sets up a trap anyways to make sure. Everyone goes over their experience with the baddie that tried to trick them. Dawn is uncertain whether it really was her mom or not that she saw. We see Spike turning women, encouraged on by the baddie taking different forms, first Buffy then as an alternate Spike. It tries to force Spike to bite Buffy but he can't do it. Buffy fights off the other vamps. Meanwhile back in England, Giles discovers a member of the Council and his wife murdered in their home. Giles is attacked as the episode closes.

Coming off arguably the best episode of an up and down season so far, I was severely disappointed. This episode is aimless and meandering. I don't know what their end goal is. The character development is messy at best. The "is Spike good or bad" game has been going in for like 3 seasons now and I'm ready for it to end. Anya no longer has a backstory or arc for herself. She just pops into episodes when it's convenient to the screenplay.

Hopefully the latter half of the season becomes more focused because it would be a shame for it to end like this.
