A bit anticlimactic....
4 October 2011
Percy Fawcett is a name few would remember today. According to this show, he was sort of like a real-life Indiana Jones--who traveled to various wild locales where no white man had been before. However, in 1925, while looking for a legendary city like El Dorado which he called 'Z', he and his two companions disappeared. Today the folks who made this documentary are looking for signs of him or perhaps the city.

Like so many PBS documentaries, this one was told through narration, old photos and film footage and LOTS of modern recreations. Niall McCann, a handsome Welsh biologist, heads up the search while narrator Liev Schreiber got to stay home and take it easy! Unfortunately, as it turns out, Fawcett's death was STILL a complete mystery by the end of the show--and this detracted some from my enjoyment of the how. While it was mildly enjoyable seeing McCann and his friends trying to retrace Fawcett's steps, the payoff was missing. As a result, I need to knock off a few points for being so anticlimactic.
