Buffy the Vampire Slayer: A New Man (2000)
Season 4, Episode 12
The Weakest Rayne.
24 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The is the last and least satisfying of the four episodes featuring Robin Sachs as Ethan Rayne. He is more interesting in what he means to Giles than as a character to himself. The episode is also not fully successful in bringing Giles back into the fold although Buffy's line about recognizing him because no one else could look so disappointed by her and the fact that Spike saves the day keeps the episode from being a total waste. Spike has a few zippy one liners, but it is the confrontation between Giles and Professor Walsh and his enjoyable terrorizing of her in demon form that are the highlight of this episode. While Miss Calender may have lit his fire, Maggie Walsh makes Giles do his annoyed trademarks, first he cleans his glasses and second he puts his hands on his hips. Feel the wraith of his misplaced anger, you jargon flinging Frankensteiner.
