Slow yes, but you should watch the 1972 Soviet original which last 165 minutes. Soderbergh peps the story a bit as compared to Tarkovsky's classic version. Which is better? The obvious answer would be the book but I never read it. Actually you will need to see the first movie in order to thoroughly enjoy the the latest edition. Soderbergh just continued on the themes explored first by Tarkosky. Nothing is rehashed. New questions are asked. In fact, the whole point of the movie is to have Chris and Rheya talk to one another. Rheya grows beyond the restrictions Chris' memories place on her and he remembers the real reason he loved her.
