Review of Dogma

Dogma (1999)
Scorsese, Coppolla, Speilberg, Smith!
7 February 2000
This movie has cemented Kevin Smith as one of the greatest film makers of all time. It is one of the most original, thought-provoking and entertaining films I've seen in the past ten years.

After his other classic movies Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy (not to mention his role in the making of Good Will Hunting) Kevin Smiths story of two renegade angels trying to trick their way back into heaven is a classic.

The ironic thing about Kevin Smith is that he can pen the most incredible scripts, but the character he plays in his movies Silent Bob hardly ever speaks a word.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon gave exceptionally good performances as the two rogue angels Jason Mewes who plays Jay, was absolutely fantastic, the audience in the theatre would go into hysterics everytime he opened his mouth.

After witnessing Smith's Fourth film it just hightens my anticipation for his next work of art. Smith deserves much more recognition than he receives, he is trully gifted and has a way with films that blows mainstream out of the water.

Please do yourself a favour and see this movie and his Jersey Trillogy, they are all great and will be remembered for ever.
