The Burning (1981)
Why I miss the 80's
5 March 2002
The Burning is defintely in my top ten, of the greatest slasher films ever. The rather unorginal tale of a disfigured camp caretaker, slaughtering typically spoiled horny teenagers is nothing new. But what elevated this film from mere mudanity, is the energy and ferocity of the film, espically the brutal raft slashing scene, I guarantee you no slasher film has ever topped a murder like that, and to think the version on vhs is cut ! Imagine what the Burning would look like competely uncut ? In any case this film was made by then fledgling company mirmax, who today is owned by disney so you can proably forget seeing this uncut on DVD, if they even decide to bring it out on DVD. If your a fan of 80's slasher flicks haven't seen the Burning yet track it down, it might be a little hard to find now, but if your a fan of old school 80's slasher films it'll be worth it !
