COMPETENT HEIMATFILM
24 May 1999
Fans of the Heimatfilm will have a ball with this one, but for others the one dimensional characters and the hardly exciting smuggle story demand a lot of perseverance; at least there are not so many illogical situations as is usual the case in the Heimatfilm and it refrains itself from overt sentimentality. All the ingredients of a Heimatfilm are here, including the couple from the big town (Berlin), with him curing of "manager's disease"!; yes, the Heimat cures everybody. It is competently directed and photographed and the cast is okay.
