Scandinavian production and distribution house Scanbox Entertainment has acquired a majority stake in Norwegian distributor Ymer Media.
Ymer Media’s management team will continue to lead the company with no operational changes, with Jarle Namtvedt and Cecilia Aas remaining shareholders and company owners.
Scanbox’s chief commercial officer Torben Thorup Jorgensen will become chairman of the board for Ymer Media.
Ymer Media will maintain its upcoming slate, which includes Alex Garland’s Civil War, Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black and Richard Linklater’s Hit Man; plus local titles Adil, Cinderella’s Stepsister and animation Kaja The Great.

Scanbox Entertainment Sets Restructured Senior Management Team With Multiple Promotions And New Hire
Scanbox Entertainment has finalized a restructuring of its senior management team with a series of internal promotions alongside a new hire.
Merete Martensen Christensen has taken over from Kim William Beich as acting Chief Operations Officer (COO). Beich will continue at the company as Head of Acquisitions and Special Projects. Christensen will also retain her role as Head of Theatrical in Scandinavia and as local Head of Theatrical in Denmark. Christensen has been part of the management group since 2014 and originally joined Scanbox back in 2011.
Elsewhere, Per Bergholdt Knudsen has joined Scanbox in the newly created Director of Sales & Acquisition Manager. Studiocanal has signed a film output deal with Scanbox Entertainment, one of the Nordics’ leading all-rights distribution banner.
The pact will see Studiocanal’s current slate of films released in the Nordics, including Cédric Klapisch’s “Rise” (pictured), Claude Zidi Jr.’s comedy “Tenor,” Eric Lartigau’s coming-of-age story “This One Summer” based on the New York Times bestseller graphic novel of the same name, and Isaki Lacuesta’s “One Year, One Night” which was produced by Studiocanal’s Bambú Producciones and world premiered at Berlin.
Scanbox will also release Studiocanal’s upcoming productions, including Lynne Ramsay’s recently announced “Stone Mattress” with Julianne Moore and Sandra Oh attached to star, and Studiocanal’s first Australian production “Kangaroo.”

One of Scandinavia’s leading film distributors, Scanbox Entertainment is changing ownership with a new board including CEO Thor Sigurjonsson.
The company was bought back from Scanbox Chairman Joni Sighvatsson. New owners include COO Kim William Beich, commercial director Torben Thorup Jorgensen, and producer Chris Briggs. They will be expending the business into film and TV production, kicking off with a Norwegian adaptation of the Italian blockbuster “Perfect Strangers “ which is co-produced by Storm Films and will premiere in theaters on Feb. 25.
“We see significant growth potential in the content creation side of the business. and with this Mbo, we have taken the first step towards that goal,” said Sigurjonsson.
The company will continue to license and distribute international and local films in the Nordic region as its core business. Scanbox’s slate also includes the Icelandic version of “Perfect Strangers” with Zik Zak Filmworks, which will premiering in the fall.
