The Unholy is a horror movie directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It is based on the novel written by James Herbert.
A supernatural horror film about miracles and apparitions, with a lot of religion (Catholic this time) and some clichés that work in lightweight horror films that work in a film that treads a firm ground without any risks…
Plot of The Unholy
A journalist with no scruples on the hunt for a scoop runs into the miracle of an apparition… and something else.
Movie Review The Unholy (2021)
If you like religion themed films, then this one is just about okay, it has its film touch (a little too much if you have watched movies for some time). It has touches of The Exorcist, apparitions like in The Ring and many others. Here and there, reputed screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos directs his first feature film cleverly but staying...

"She realized what she really wanted, ever since she was a faceless little girl, was to belong." Are you ready to finally get your face? Check out this fun horror short film titled We Want Faces So Bad, made by actor / filmmaker Matthew Van Gessel. This one recently played at the Fantasia Film Festival and is now online to watch thanks to Short of the Week. Alexx must 'face' the reality of her overnight transformation when she joins her faceless friends in their nightly manifesting faces ritual. It's set entirely in one room and is a quick and easy watch. This stars Jasmine Kimiko, Cricket Brown, Meagan Kimberly Smith, and Rebecca Brinkley. This is a clever short about obsession with identity and vanity, and how we try to hide our faces. I wish there was a bit more to it, following these faceless girls outside of this evening. But still worth a watch.

Sony Pictures Releasing UK has debuted a new trailer for the horror film ‘The Unholy’ starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Gerry Fenn (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a disgraced journalist turned stringer-for-hire, of supernatural tabloid fodder, is sent to investigate a strange occurrence in a small farming community. A born sceptic, Fenn quickly dismisses the incident as just another benign story. But, before he writes it off as a hoax; Fenn witnesses a deaf, teenaged girl, Alice (Cricket Brown), whispering next to a petrified oak tree in the middle of a field. What follows, to his disbelief, is a series of inexplicable events that has the locals convinced Alice can perform miracles.
When word spreads that Alice’s power to heal is attributed to the Virgin Mary, it fans the flames of curiosity from those near and far to witness the miraculous occur firsthand. As the hopeful masses descend upon this off-the-beaten-path town,...

Seems audiences are still hopping to it: Australian-uk co-production Peter Rabbit 2 is now no. 1 at the box office, having knocked off Godzilla vs. Kong as both titles enter their fourth week.
Holding well, PR2 – a hybrid animation from Animal Logic Entertainment and Olive Bridge Entertainment – has a cume $17.6 million after pocketing another $2.8 million.
Australia and New Zealand are the first markets into which the Sony sequel has been released, with the UK to follow in May and the US in June. The film was among the earliest titles worldwide to be delayed due to the coronavirus, originally scheduled for March 19 last year.
The 2018 original, also shot in Sydney, finished on $26.7 million, making it locally the eighth highest grossing Australian film of all time.
Monster hit Godzilla vs. Kong fell 31 per cent with takings of $2.4 million, moving to $24.9 million.
Despite the tumble, the Warner Bros. film, shot in Queensland, is...

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” This Biblical phrase that closes writer-director Evan Spiliotopoulos’s The Unholy perfectly encapsulates it. A film about how nothing is what it seems in the context of a demonic horror film rooted in Catholicism. The church, a symbol of good, is used as the backdrop, but as in other films like The Nun, what takes place among the pews is wholly evil. And in a sense, by speaking of false prophets and introducing an untrustworthy journalist character, the film speaks of the effects of “fake news” and the consequences that ensue when false narratives are intentionally planted. It’s smart in that respect, but just because a film has a James Wan story credit, or in this case, a Sam Raimi producing credit, it sadly doesn’t spell a good supernatural tale.

For his very first feature film, longtime screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos adapted UK writer James Herbert’s novel Shrine into the latest genre offering from Screen Gems. Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, William Sadler, and newcomer Cricket Brown, The Unholy is centered around a young woman who regains her hearing after a supposed visitation by the Virgin Mary—an event that also leaves her with the ability to heal others. But when a skeptical journalist arrives to investigate, he begins to suspect that these phenomena are actually the work of sinister forces, and it’s up to him to try and stop this insidious evil from claiming the young woman before it’s too late.
During the recent press day for The Unholy, Daily Dead spoke with Spiliotopoulos about transitioning from the world of screenwriting to the world of directing for this project, how integral producer Sam Raimi was in helping him...

“The Unholy” is a good tight scary commercial theological horror film. Its spooks and demons unfurl within a pop version of Christianity, which makes it sound no more exotic than last week’s “Exorcist” knockoff or last year’s helping of the “Conjuring” franchise. But “The Unholy” has a religious plot that actually works for it. It stars an unheralded actress named Cricket Brown — mark my words, she’s going to go on to major things — who plays a deaf-mute young woman named Alice, who has visions of what she thinks is the Virgin Mary. Absorbing Mary’s spirit, Alice can suddenly hear and speak, and she can heal the sick, which attracts crowds of people to her rural town of Banfield, Mass. “The Unholy” is adapted from a 1983 James Herbert novel, and as written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos it could almost be a faith-based horror film. Good and...

We’ve spent a year inside watching our televisions and, as the world opens up and the weather warms, most of us are eager to step out a bit. That makes the entertainment industry’s job that much harder. It’s one thing to compete against other shows and movies, but how do you compete with the world at large after a year of isolation?
Fortunately, audiences can’t stay outside all the time. Even more fortunate: this April is bringing a lot of promising offerings to screens small and large,...
