Some came to calling him “the Jewish Larry Bird,” given his blond mop and prowess from long distance, shooting over 46% from beyond the three-point arc. In 2022, the Motor City Cruise, the Detroit Pistons’ G League affiliate, selected him 27th overall in the NBA G League Draft. And with that, Turell made history.

The Water of Life, a documentary about Scotland’s whisky industry, has been picked up by PBS.
The public broadcaster will launch the feature doc, which is exec produced by The Magicians star Brittany Curran, in June.
The doc was shot in six countries on three continents over three years and tells the story of the creative revolution that saved Scotland’s once flagging whisky industry and turned it into the global titan it is today.
It features a half-dozen distillers and distilleries but focuses much of its time on the resurrection of the tiny Bruichladdich Distillery on the remote Scottish island of Islay. Led by Mark Reynier and whisky legend Jim McEwan, the distillery went from being a mothballed memory to a world-beating innovator in a matter of years, helping to save the struggling economy of the island often called Whisky Island.
It also includes whisky writer Charles Maclean,...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers for Season 4, Episode 6.
With “Stormy Weather,” Star Trek: Discovery celebrates the Trek tradition of getting some excellent musical standards into the bold voyages in the final frontier. With Picard, it was a call back to “Blue Skies,” but now, we’ve got a new version of the song made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, “Stormy Weather.” This version is sung by actress Annabelle Wallis, who has voiced “Zora” the intelligent Disco computer since 2018’s Short Treks episode, “Calypso.” The newest Discovery episode obviously references that story a lot but what else? From galactic barriers to an old Scotty trick with the transporter, here’s every Easter egg and shout-out we spotted in Discovery Season 4, Episode 6, “Stormy Weather.”

I’d say 99% of people viewing Scrawl are doing so because they heard it stars Daisy Ridley, who has since starred in couple of slightly more popular movies (Star Wars in case you’ve been living under a rock). I was one of those ninety nine percent.
The basic concept here is that a teenage boy discovers that stuff he writes and has drawn down in his comic book starts to actually happen in real life. Not a particularly original story but not a poor one either. Only Scrawl takes this idea and adds what feels like a million more ideas, blends them all together and then throws them about the place...

"Do you like what you've done?" "No." Way back when, before anyone knew who Rey was and before The Force Awakens opened, British actress Daisy Ridley starred in a little indie horror project titled Scrawl, from filmmaker Peter Hearn. The film played at a few small festivals in 2015, but has never been officially released - until now. If anyone still cares. Scrawl is a fantasy horror about a boy who writes a comic book with his best friend, only to discover that what they show starts to really happen. Along with the appearance of a mysterious girl, he is forced to face the reality of what he has written, and begins a battle to attempt to rewrite death. Starring Daisy Ridley, along with Mark Forester Evans, Liam Hughes, Chris Casey, Nathalie Pownall, Elizabeth Boag, Annabelle Le Gresley, Joe Daly, Ellie Selwood, and Derek Jones as "The Caretaker". Not really sure...

"The battle began with first to see a woman's ass..." Passion River Films has debuted an official trailer for Sickies Making Films, a documentary about censorship looking back at America's history with censoring films. Yes, it's an entire documentary examining why America loves to censor films, but surprisingly it's not about the MPAA. The film focuses on the Maryland Board of Censors, the nation's longest lasting censor board (from 1916 to 1981). Featuring interviews and footage with John Waters, Pat Moran, Liam Hughes, and many others - including some of the members of the Maryland Board. The doc is described as a "love letter to film history" that "looks at our urge to censor movies and asks, Why?" I don't know if we want to know the answer! This look incredibly fascinating, and it's heading straight to VOD soon. Take a look below. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Joe Tropea's doc Sickies Making Films,...

Ben McGrath (Chris Klein) had major league potential playing professional baseball, but his hopes to play ball literally get crushed. Down on his luck, Ben gets another swing at redemption as a new attorney for Schmood & Associates. His unorthodox boss, Mel (Jon Lovitz), convinces him to manage their eclectic softball team full of misfits and strikeouts. Together, will they have enough spirit to rally and win it all?
Ok, so The Benchwarmers didn’t set the world on fire but I did enjoy the ridiculous underdog film for what it was – a stupid, laugh out loud comedy product from the “Happy Gilmore” factory of filmmaking. In the grand...
