Zach Heinzerling, the director of the Hulu docuseries “Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence,” really wants people to know that cults aren’t strictly limited to being religious in nature. “A cult is essentially any power imbalance or manipulative relationship between more than one person. Usually the examples we have of cults have been kind of seemingly esoteric groups of people that the average person can’t relate to,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent Meet the Experts: TV Documentaries panel (watch the exclusive video interview above).
He goes on to explain that this has also been a focus for one of the cult’s survivors, Daniel Levin, by showing a group that audiences could empathize with. “In this instance, he’s shedding a light on that word and using it in a way where we’re educating the public on what that word really means.”

Chicago – The road to athletic success is littered with the clichés of “might have been” and “never was,” but rarely does it contain a success story that is despite the person who achieved that success. In the early 1990s, a journeyman broke into the National Basketball Association, the first time in its history that a player that never graduated from high school made it to the big show. That man is Lloyd Daniels, and his story is in the documentary “The Legend of Swee’ Pea,” by filmmaker Benjamin May. The director will appear – with his cinematographer Daniel Levin – on behalf of his film at its Chicago premiere, presented by the Midwest Independent Film Festival on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 (details below).

Box Offices in New England are going to be booming soon, as two New England Patriots stars are getting the Hollywood treatment. Come inside for more!
Tom Brady and Malcolm Butler. Two incredible, immortal figures in NFL history are getting their stories put on the big screen. Everyone, even those unfamiliar with football, knows who Tom Brady is. Whether its from various movies, commercials, or the Deflategate debacle, he's pretty much a household name.
As for Malcolm Butler, he may be a guy you're less familiar with. An undrafted free agent from the University of West Alabama, a school not known for developing NFL stars, becomes a hero of an entire region when he intercepted Seattle Seahawks Qb Russell Wilson to clinch the win for the New England Patriots in Super Bowl Xlix. Long before that moment, he worked at a Popeye's hoping he'd get a shot at the NFL.

Lion, has acquired Butler's life rights for a biopic titled The Secondary. Levin's instincts have been sound: He obtained Lion subject Saroo Brierley's rights after reading about him in Vanity Fair, and now the movie is up for six Oscars. Likewise, he saw promise in the story of an undrafted Butler, who just three years ago was running the fryolator at a Popeyes chicken joint when his agent, Derek Simpson, secured...
