When Sara Benincasa first met Ben Kissel in 2010, she was smitten with him almost immediately. Tall and handsome with boyish features, a six-foot-seven-inch frame, and an aw-shucks Midwestern mien, Kissel was working as a stand-up comic in New York City, just like she was at the time; they both spent a lot of time at the Creek and the Cave, a now-defunct comedy club in Queens. She found him charming and funny, with a quick wit and a willingness to say anything to get a laugh, an edgelord sensibility that...

Edgar Wiggins is a Soul Plumber, and the hero of the new DC Horror title of the same name, created by The Last Podcast on the Left trio of Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks, and Henry Zebrowski. The enormously successful podcast, now available exclusively on Spotify, combines comedy and high strangeness for deep dives into the paranormal, ufology, dark history, and true crime.
And with Soul Plumber, the deep dives continue by — as Zebrowski describes him — a tolerant and pure-hearted “wet Chihuahua” of a man driven by a sincere belief in a loving God, but is just too weird to fit in anywhere. The gas station attendant builds a pirated version of a machine intended to deliver souls from Satan, but ends up getting more than he bargains for when he goes after a demon.
While an original concept, the second title from the new DC imprint draws from older, weirder...

DC's horror imprint just announced Soul Plumber, a brand-new six-issue series from the hosts of Last Podcast on the Left!
Burbank, CA — July 14, 2021 — Finally, exorcism made easy in DC Horror Presents: Soul Plumber.
From Marcus Parks, Henry Zebrowski, and Ben Kissel, the hosts of "The Last Podcast On The Left," comes a new six-issue series that dives deep into the sewers of the human soul—also, there are demons.
Edgar Wiggins, a disgraced former seminary student, is desperate to find a way to answer what he believes is his higher calling. He thinks he’s found it in a seminar hosted in a hotel conference room by the Soul Plumbers, who have a machine that could be the secret to delivering souls from Satan. Edgar’s too broke to buy in, but that’s not enough to stop this true devotee: he steals the blueprints and builds a pirated version...

One of the most troubling problems with the true-crime genre, if you ask the hosts of the megahit Last Podcast on the Left, can be summed up with the 2019 Netflix docuseries Conversations With a Killer, or, as co-host Marcus Parks calls it, “that fucking Ted Bundy series.” Parks and his Last Podcast co-creators frequently deride the documentary — as well as Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the contemporaneous biopic starring Zac Efron — for making the serial killer seem brilliant and suave, while glossing over less-appealing details. “I think it’s...

When Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks, and Henry Zebrowski first premiered their darkly comic true crime and paranormal podcast, The Last Podcast on the Left, in 2011, pop culture was in a much different, perhaps less murder-y place. Landmark true crime podcast series Serial was still three years away, Netflix’s whodunnit Making a Murderer was four years out, and Ted Bundy was still a monster and not a charming antihero played by Zac Efron.
Yes, as is often the case for early podcast trailblazers, the rest of the world caught up. For Kissel, Parks, and Zebrowski, this meant suddenly living in an environment where their deathly niche interests had gone mainstream.
“We’ve always done this show because these are the things we’re interested in and these are the things we liked talking about,” Parks adds. “It actually makes life a little easier as people, because we used to get...
