The Strain Family
The University of Missouri student Riley Strain disappeared on March 8. His body was discovered in the Cumberland River two weeks later.
As The Blast previously reported, the 22-year-old was last seen visiting bars in downtown Nashville with his fraternity brothers. He was reportedly kicked out of Luke Bryan's establishment around 9:35 p.m. His fraternity brothers did not leave with him and allegedly planned to meet him back at the hotel. However, Riley was nowhere to be found when they returned.
After a two-week-long search, his body was found in a river nearby. Preliminary results from both the toxicology and autopsy showed that Strain died from an accidental drowning and that there were no signs of foul play.
Following the results of the toxicology and autopsy, Riley Strain's family hired a private investigator, who has cast doubts on the results.

Although a lot of the mutants from Marvel comics did manage to make it to the X-Men project for the screens, not all of them got the true recognition they deserved, with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine being a major exception.
But while the others were simply sidelined, some of them were actually told that they had the potential to get their own solo movie for their respective mutant.

One of these was The Blob, who was played by Kevin Durand in 2009’s Origins: Wolverine. As the actor revealed, he was promised a solo movie for his character, with a plotline that basically hinged on fat-shaming because of the mutant’s characteristics.
However, in a disappointing turn of events, that promise never really managed to pan out, let alone make it to the screens.

If there’s one thing apes are afraid of besides drowning, it’s George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa. To avoid conflict at the box office during Memorial Day weekend, 20th Century Studios‘ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is moving to May 10 to avoid Furiosa’s wrath. The new date pushes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes up by two weeks, giving the Wes Ball-directed action film time to earn more bananas at the box office before Furiosa inevitably leaves other releases in the dust.
The new date finds Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes competing with Focus Features’ Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Sony’s horror comedy Horrorscope, and an untitled release from Angel Pictures. It’s also worth mentioning that Mark Lindal’s The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt as the voice of the Monday-hating, lasagna-eating orange Persian tabby...

Radio Silence (V/H/S, Southbound, Scream, Scream VI) will be directing an “Untitled Monster Thriller” for Universal, a mysterious project that doesn’t yet have an official plot synopsis of any kind, and Deadline reports that Giancarlo Esposito (“The Mandalorian”) has signed on.
Additionally, the film has been dated for April 19, 2024.
Dan Stevens (The Guest), Alisha Weir (Matilda: The Musical), Kevin Durand (“The Strain”), Kathryn Newton (Freaky), Angus Cloud and Will Catlett also star.
Melissa Barrera, who plays a pivotal role in Radio Silence’s two Scream movies, recently signed on to lead the cast of the mysterious untitled horror movie.
THR previews, “The project was at one point titled Dracula’s Daughter. That project centered on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people, one of whom ends up being the titular character. Woe then betides the kidnappers. Weir is playing the kidnappee who proves to be more than she appears,...

Lucasfilm seems to finally be full steam ahead with its slate of Star Wars films. At Star Wars Celebration in April, studio president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed three new pictures set in the galaxy far, far away, including a Mandoverse event film to be directed by Dave Filoni and a Jedi origin movie from James Mangold. Then there’s perhaps the most surprising installment of the trio: a new Rey movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy that will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role just a few years after the release of The Rise of Skywalker.
Ridley’s return to her most famous role so soon after the end of her trilogy is unprecedented in Star Wars history, to say the least. There was a 32-year gap between Return of the Jedi and Mark Hamill’s return as Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens, and it took 17 years to get Ewan McGregor...

This article contains spoilers for Shadow and Bone season 2.
It’s understandable that before fans get into a Netflix show nowadays, they want to know whether the show will have another season or whether they’ll be stuck with another cliffhanger ending that will never be continued. Yes we’re talking about Julie and the Phantoms, First Kill, Partner Track, and so much more. But with a show like Shadow and Bone, where we have a whole universe’s worth of stories to pull from and a strong fan base, viewers will be happy to hear that back when showrunner Eric Heisserer pitched the show for Netflix, he told them his ideas for a three-season series.
If you’re yet to start Shadow and Bone or have forgotten the premise since season one, Shadow and Bone is Alina Starkov’s (Jessie Mei Li) story based on a book series of...

Disney is calling their five-time Oscar-nominated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the most watched Marvel premiere ever on Disney+ on a global basis. Without supplying viewership figures, the company said Monday that the claim is based on hours streamed for the pic over its first five days.
The Ryan Coogler-directed sequel, which has amassed 842.3 million at the global box office, dropped February 1 on Disney+ after an 83-day theatrical window.
Meanwhile, Samba TV, which measures viewership across a panel of 3 million U.S. smart TVs, says the Live+4D household viewership was 2.1 million.
That’s a notable number, tracking 400 ahead of the same frame for Black Adam‘s 1.5M draw on HBO Max, the same as Disney/Marvel Studio’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and just under that of Thor: Love and Thunder (2.2M).
Of the above movies, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever over-indexed by the highest margin among...

Guillermo del Toro is as busy as ever. His latest movie, a stop-motion animated take on Pinocchio, is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service this Friday. He’s considering making his long-awaited H.P. Lovecraft adaptation At the Mountains of Madness as a stop-motion feature. He’s hoping to produce another season of the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix (if Netflix decides to renew the show). And during an interview with the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, he revealed that he’s currently developing a monster movie… which may end up being his next directing project.
Del Toro said (with thanks to The Playlist for the transcript), “I’m working on a monster movie; I cannot say the title because it may change, and I could end up making something else. But right now, I’m writing and designing. And we have...

“It used to be cool to hate us, and now it’s become cool to like us.”
So says Paul Bales, COO of The Asylum, the B-movie flag-bearers who have cornered — in somewhat notorious fashion — one of the most beloved, derided, schlocky and, well, inexpensive rungs of Hollywood’s lower echelons.
This year, The Asylum has its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of super-prolific, low-budget filmmaking, unashamed studio piggybacking and some of the most comically ludicrous concepts (and posters) ever made. And sharks. Truck loads of sharks (so many it’s difficult to actually pin down an exact figure).
And it’s a birthday the company — whose vast library includes the likes of Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, Avengers Grimm, Asteroid-a-Geddon and, of course, the six-strong Sharknado franchise — is celebrating not simply with a huge party on Santa Monica Pier during the American Film Market,...

This article contains spoilers for Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities: “Lot 36.”
Talk to just about anyone involved with Netflix horror anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities long enough and EC Comics will eventually come up.
The namesake of the show himself, Academy Award-winning director and monster enthusiast Guillermo del Toro, has freely spoken of his love for the classic mid-20th century comic imprint, telling The Austin Chronicle earlier this year that “I remember when I was a kid being very scared by Graham Ingels of EC Comics.”
From 1944 to 1956, EC Comics (or Entertaining Comics) published hundreds of issues of comics in genres like crime, satire, fantasy, and most importantly: horror. EC’s style was distinctive, inspiring a whole generation of horror storytellers and respectful modern copycat endeavors like Tales from the Crypt (which borrowed its title from EC) and Creepshow. Frequently, EC Comics were known for their shock endings,...

FX has filled one of the key new roles for the upcoming second season of "The Strain," casting a well-respected Mexican star of stage and screen to play a heroic former luchador. HitFix can report exclusively that Joaquín Cosío will join the Season 2 cast playing Angel Guzman Hurtado. As fans of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's books know, Hurtado is better known as Angel de la Plata, The Silver Angel. Angel de la Plata was a major masked wrestling star in Mexico, appearing both in the ring and in a series of movies in which his character battled all manner of foes including vampires, who he dispatched with an ultra-violent trademark move. A knee injury ended his career and his money and celebrity were soon gone. Now he's washing dishes at an Indian restaurant, beloved by the nostalgic, but seemingly forgotten to the world. As you might imagine,...
