As the co-host of the Creators in Fashion show that took place on April 25, Matthew Patrick (a.k.a. MatPat) was in the perfect position to reveal a new apparel venture from the company he founded. On the day of the show, Theorist announced Lumen, a line that includes items inspired by fictional worlds.
A press release describes Lumen as an extension of Theorywear, a preexisting apparel brand under the umbrella of MatPat-founded Theorist. Fans who enjoy pop culture theories will get a chance to check out Lumen collections inspired by IP like Dune, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Lumen’s output will be broken down by season. The items debuted at the Creators in Fashion show are part of the brand’s summer collection. That line includes 16 pieces in total.

The seventh season of Rick and Morty ended in December, tying up many arcs in the beloved sitcom. The season had the task of going ahead and re-voicing all the episodes after co-creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland was fired from the show due to his legal issues. The film adaptation of the video game Five Night’s At Freddy’s broke box office records during its opening weekend in theaters, and its respect for the game’s fandom played a big role in its success. Two creators who helped popularize Fnaf — game theorist Matthew ‘MatPat‘ Patrick and Let’s Play star CoryxKenshin — had cameos in the film adaptation.
The Fnaf film was produced by the horror masters at Blumhouse, with Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson in the leading role. During its opening weekend, the adaptation reeled in $78 million at the North American box office and $130 million globally. According to Variety, those numbers established several records: Five Nights At Freddy’s had the biggest domestic debut of any movie released during Halloween weekend, and it gave Blumhouse its most lucrative international opening of all time.
“It’s so fun when it works,” Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum wrote on X.

When YouTube game personality MatPat posted his first YouTube video in 2011, he was a recent graduate of Duke University, held a degree in theater and neuroscience, and was struggling to find a job. But what started as an in-depth discussion of quantum mechanics and the 1995 video game Chrono Trigger jump-started a decade-long career on YouTube with his channel the Game Theorists — and redefined how online fandom discussed theories. Now, 12 years later, MatPat — legal name Matthew Patrick — is the host of the 2023 Streamy Awards. And he tells Rolling Stone that as...

Is Neuro-sama the future of entertainment? Her numbers suggest she’s on an upward trajectory.
As her name implies, Neuro-sama is essentially a neural network with a VTuber-style face. Her creator, who goes by the anonymous title Vedal, has steered their virtual creation to a substantial following on Twitch. On the vedal987 channel, Neuro-sama streams games like Minecraft, and her gameplay is strong enough that it doesn’t immediately give her away as an artificial intelligence. Her abilities are fascinating enough to draw more than 70,000 followers on Twitch.
How does Neuro-sama work? The AI’s creator doesn’t want to reveal too many details, because doing so could spawn a legion of copycats. According to Motherboard, the character has been in development since 2018, with the current VTuber version of Neuro-sama arriving in 2022. Her “brain” was constructed with the help of a large language model, which culls text from across the web.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is forging onward with the platform’s push toward transparency by sitting down with yet another creator on camera for a wide-ranging interview.
Following similar conversations with Matthew Patrick, Juanpa Zurita, Alfie Deyes, and Prajakta 'Mostly Sane' Koli, Wojcicki's most recent one-on-one was moderated by Try Guys star Eugene Lee Yang. Throughout their 45-minute conversation, Wojcicki touched on a number of pertinent issues, as well as those that were important to Yang -- but didn't offer any particularly new information. Topics included ongoing demonetization concerns related to YouTube's recent Coppa settlement (for which Wojicki reiterated that YouTube is pushing for more clarity), as well as its new harassment policy, which seeks to crack down on veiled threats and malicious insults of protected classes.

YouTube creator and commentator Matthew Patrick -- whose nerd-leaning Game Theorists channel counts 11.4 million subscribers -- was one of roughly 50 creators impacted by November’s Defy Media scandal, whereby the once-prominent multi-channel network and digital studio abruptly shuttered, leaving some 200 employees suddenly jobless.

Matthew Patrick, one of YouTube's nerdiest stars and sharpest analysts, discussed the ways in which human behavior impacts viewing habits and clickability at a VidCon keynote titled The Psychology Of The Watch Journey.
Patrick, who counts roughly 10.4 million subscribers on his Game Theorists hub -- which mixes science and nerd culture -- said that while the YouTube algorithm has been studied extensively, viewer psychology is a lesser-explored but similarly critical piece of the puzzle.
In terms of video thumbnails, for instance, Patrick said that viewers tend to consume a thumbnail in the same way that they might read a book -- from the upper left-hand corner of the screen and then diagonally on down. Patrick also underscored that faces are key for thumbnails, specifically those that are highly expressive -- preferably even with eyes that have been photoshopped to appear larger than they actually are. For the third time in as many years, a gaggle of top YouTube stars will have to Escape The Night. A trailer has arrived for the third season of Joey Graceffa's murder-mystery-comedy-period piece, which this time will be set among the jaunty ascots and polyester fabrics of the 70s.
The first season of Escape The Night, which premiered in 2016 and ultimately snagged a Streamy Award for its ensemble cast, took place during the Jazz Age. For season two, Graceffa and co traded that environment for a more Victorian vibe. Now, in season three, which was announced in late May, the setting is the 70s. A project three years in the making is set to come to an end. On May 1, Go90 will premiere Transformers: Power of the Primes, an animated series that will conclude the Prime Wars Trilogy co-produced by Machinima and Hasbro.
Power of the Primes, which features the characters of the Transformers franchise, takes place after the defeat of the heroic Optimus Prime at the hands of a foe named Megatronus. As with the previous two installments of the Prime Wars Trilogy, Power of the Primes will feature a voice cast that combines Hollywood notables (such as Mark Hamill and Ron Perlman) with YouTube stars (such as Matthew Patrick and DashieGames).
A trailer for the upcoming series is available through Machinima's YouTube channel.

Machinima's latest exploration of the Transformers universe is all fueled up and ready to roll. Transformers: Titans Return, which continues the animated saga that began with 2016's Combiner Wars, has now launched on Go90.
Titans Return features some of the most iconic Transformers characters from the franchise, with Peter Cullen leading the way as the voice of the legendary Autobot leader Optimus Prime. Cullen anchors a strong cast that includes several actors who will reprise voice roles from earlier installments of the Transformers canon, including Judd Hirsch and Wil Wheaton. Several YouTube stars, including MatPat and Tay Zonday, are featured in the new series as well.
Like Combiner Wars, which according to Machinima has received more than 125 million global views since its premiere, Titans Return is available in most countries via Go90, which is run by Verizon. In China, the series will be released in partnership with local media company Sohu thanks to a 2016 deal.

The latest web series released under the Smosh banner invites its guests to dive deep into their social media archives. You Posted That, which is produced by Smosh owner Defy Media and hosted by the brand's co-founder Ian Hecox, is a game show that features prominent social media stars as its contestants.
Each episode of You Posted That features three guests, who must analyze their past posts, evaluate the humor of them, and attempt to remember how they were phrased. In the final round of each show, the contestants must read a caption from one of Hecox's Instagram posts and divine which picture it matches up to. The reward is minimal, the tone is light, and the featured influencers don't take their competition too seriously. “It’s sort of a game of embarrassing them, but I also make a point of taking shots at myself,” Hecox told Variety.
