Standing in line this week for my annual peppermint mocha latte at Starbucks, I realized that peppermint, unlike pumpkin spice, has its limitations as a holiday flavor. Peppermint beer, mashed peppermint potatoes, pretty much anything in the savory category seems less than immediately appealing (though I’m sure it’s been done, and done well). So Halloween and the fall season really chose a winner with pumpkin spice (its taste and smell are extremely effective triggers for nostalgic, overwhelming emotional memories). Peppermint is not bad, not by a long shot, but some things are just more easily adaptable to holiday theming. Which made me think about, you guessed it, holiday horror, Saint Patrick’s Day edition.

It’s been 12 years since we last saw Bridget Jones on screen, and while it’s unclear if world has been crying out for her return, in a testing year, the beleaguered Brits could certainly use a dash of her carefree tomfoolery and sheer adorability. And so Bridge is back – not with a bang, but two in fact, of the variety that leads to a bun in the oven and a brand new dilemma.
In “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” Helen Fielding’s hapless heroine, indelibly played by Renee Zellweger, despaired of being a thirties singleton before literally being fought over by two men. In “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” she struggled to maintain what she’d always wanted: A relationship. In this new installment, she is again single, but now 43, and wondering if she has lost her chance to be a mother.

Donald Trump is under fire from Democrats and Republicans alike for his suggestion Wednesday that women who undergo abortions should face punishment if the U.S. bans the procedure. Trump later walked back his comments in a statement saying that the doctors who perform abortions should be held responsible, rather than the women who obtain them - but by then the backlash was already well under way. Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton was one of the first to condemn Trump's comments, taking to Twitter to say: "Just when you thought it couldn't get worse. Horrific and telling. -H" She followed up...

The Brood (1979)- Mommy knows best
David Cronenberg’s third horror film is his first truly great movie and also his first superbly acted film. The Brood’s ensemble is solid but Oliver Reed and Samantha Eggar stand out as maverick doctor Hal Raglan and his disturbed patient Nola Carveth. Nola’s estranged husband Frank (played by Art Hindle) teams up with Dr. Raglan in the film’s suspenseful climax. He confronts Nola while Raglan attempts to rescue Frank’s young daughter from a group of murderous deformed children.

Through four-plus wild and wacky, red wine-soaked seasons of Scandal, Olivia and Fitz have somehow managed to keep their on-again, off-again love affair (mostly) tucked away from the public. But after last week’s spine-tingling ender – Olitz dramatically outed (naughty pics and all!) by the self-righteous Sally Langston on her TV show – the ABC juggernaut has deliciously moved into uncharted territory. Let’s recap how it all played out this week:
