Described as “Zombeavers meets Godzilla,” the indie creature feature Crabs! is headed home in time for the holidays, available to watch on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Prime as of November 15, 2022. Bloody Disgusting has also learned this week that a bonus features packed Director’s Edition Blu-ray will be released next week, on November 22, 2022.
While you wait, check out an exclusive clip from Crabs! below, wherein the sheriff and his deputy discover the gruesome handiwork of the film’s man-eating crab monsters.
In the film from director Pierce Berolzheimer, “Mutated by nuclear runoff a horde of murderous horseshoe crabs descend on a sleepy California town causing Prom Night terror. As the deadly crustaceans claw their way through the disbelieving population, it’s up to a ramshackle band of students and police to address the increasingly ginormous crab menace in a love letter to such practical effects horrors as Gremlins and nostalgic Roger Corman classics.

Once upon a time, creature features dominated entertainment.
Pierce McDermott Berolzheimer hopes to find a spot in the hearts of genre fans with creature feature, Crabs!
As director, writer, editor, and producer, Berolzheimer's hands are all over this low-budget indie flick, and he should be proud.
Crabs! offers a lot straight from the features we love, like those from auteur Roger Corman to the plethora of creature flicks that once dominated Syfy's weekend lineup.
Berolzheimer set out to make a movie that is "pure, unbridled fun," and "excessive and over-the-top, but also genuine and heartwarming."
It sure sounds like a tall order, but the filmmaking gods were with him, and Crabs! carries viewers through a small town's mutated Horseshoe Crab invasion until an unlikely hero saves the day.
Crabs! is personal to Berolzheimer. Along with his specific goals, it is also a testament to his uncle's courage while living with muscular dystrophy.

Stupid, ridiculous, inept… Amazing! Yes, that’s director Pierce Berolzheimer’s Crabs! in a nutshell.
Feeling like a product of 50s creature-feature B-movies and the output of The Asylum, Crabs! plot is simple: a horde of murderous crab monsters descend on a sleepy coastal town on prom night, and only a ragtag group of outcasts – including Philip McCalister, a wheelchair-bound geek; his girl friend Maddy, who becomes more; her mom and his brother – can save the day. Yes, we’re in cliche-filled territory here but that’s not a bad thing, for Crabs! is actually an on-the-nose satire that plays with the conventions of the genre whilst conforming to them too!
On the surface it may seem like Crabs! is an inept mess but there’s so much going on...

A horde of murderous crab monsters descend on a sleepy coastal town on Prom night, and only a ragtag group of outcasts can save the day!
Crabs! was originally announced back in 2015 so it's crazy how long the film took to come out. It is premiering at the UK's FrightFest this Thursday August 26th.
Pierce Berolzheimer wrote and directs the love letter to practical effects and old school creature features.

Our friends at Raven Banner Entertainment have given us the first look at Pierce Berolzheimer's debut feature film 'Crabs!'. A horde of murderous crab monsters descend on a sleepy coastal town on Prom night, and only a ragtag group of outcasts can save the day. Crabs! is premiering at the UK's FrightFest this Thursday August 26th. Short and sweet it gets to the point and it looks like we should expect lots of blood! Glorious. And there is no escaping the nod to a horror classic any time something like this happens in this clip. That is a-okay by us. Sneak Peek "Little Women", directed by Clare Niederpruem, in a modern, updated adaptation of author Louisa May Alcott's 1868 novel, starring Sarah Davenport, Allie Jennings, Lucas Grabeel, Ian Bohen and Lea Thompson, opening September 28, 2018:
"...in the original novel, four teenaged sisters and their mother, 'Marmee', live in a new neighborhood in Massachusetts in genteel poverty. Having lost all his money, their father is acting as a pastor, miles from home, involved in the 'American Civil War'. The women face their first Christmas without him.
"'Meg' and 'Jo March', the elder two, have to work in order to support the family: Meg teaches a nearby family of four children; Jo assists her aged great-aunt 'March', a wealthy widow living in a mansion, 'Beth', too timid for school is content to stay at home and help with housework; 'Amy' is still at school. Meg is beautiful and traditional, Jo...

Clare Niederpruem’s adaptation of “Little Women” is billed as “the first-ever modern cinematic retelling of the classic story.” (Apparently they’re not counting the 2012 TV movie “The March Sisters at Christmas.”) This sounds like a promising approach; Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel was published 150 years ago, yet it remains as relevant as ever.
Alcott’s books grappled with the place of girls and women (and also boys and men) in the world, so there will always be room for thoughtful adaptations of her work. Indeed, this year brought a well-received miniseries to PBS, and Greta Gerwig is currently working on an interpretation starring Saoirse Ronan and Meryl Streep. Plus, of course, parents still show kids their own favorite versions, from 1933, 1949 and 1994.
But these efforts reflected a crucial understanding missing from Niederpruem’s feature debut: that we are all Jo. The girls in this contemporary retelling — which was produced...

What would the world of the March sisters look like in the contemporary era? Such is the concept behind Clare Niederpruem’s misguided take on Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel “Little Women.” Released between last year’s well-received three-episode PBS miniseries and Greta Gerwig’s upcoming star-studded feature, Niederpruem’s debut will be remembered as a curiosity amongst otherwise stellar adaptations. Niederpruem, who adapted the book with Kristi Shimek, clearly has great affection for Alcott’s indelible sisters, but her film never goes beyond placing them in a contemporary setting and simply hoping for the best.
While there’s certainly room to explore Alcott’s biggest themes in the lives of modern women, here the results feel more hammy than revelatory. Sweet scenes in Alcott’s book are now suddenly weird and outdated, and only serve as uncomfortable evidence of the film’s poor execution. The intrusion of modern idioms also stings,...

When characters cry on screen, but the audience doesn’t cry in their seats, there’s a problem. Unfortunately, it’s not the only problem in director Clare Niederpruem’s “Little Women.” This contemporary adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s enduring classic is certainly admirable in its attempt to give the material a modern spin. However, what’s new only serves to frustrate and detract from the reasons why this material has been beloved for generations.
Niederpruem, along with co-writer (and editor) Kristi Shimek, updates Alcott’s source material with an unnecessary framing device in which present-day twentysomething Jo March (Sarah Davenport) is attempting to make her mark by writing an unforgettable novel. Can you guess what that novel will eventually be?
Jo was once a young girl yearning to “do all the things”, such as travel the world and be a playwright. Now, she’s just a frustrated fantasy-fiction writer,...

Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart’s upcoming comedy is studying up for an A+ opening.
Haddish and Hart’s “Night School” is heading for a debut around $25 million in the Sept. 28-30 weekend, early tracking showed Thursday. Warner Bros.’ animated “Smallfoot” is eyeing similar numbers in its opening that same weekend.
Universal’s “Night School” is the first lead role for Haddish since she broke out in “Girls Trip” last year. She plays a no-nonsense teacher heading adult instruction at a high school with Hart as a particularly hapless student, told at one point that he is “clinically dumb.”
Tracking for “Night School” ranges from $21 million to $34 million. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee, who directed Haddish in “Girls Trip,” which opened to $31.2 million on July 21-23, 2017, its way to $115 million domestically. Hart produces via his Hartbeat Productions banner and Will Packer is producing for his Will Packer Productions.
