Beeks, a stage actor who has appeared on Broadway in Kinky Boots, Aida, Ragtime, and Smokey Joe’s Cafe and most recently starred as Judas in a major touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar, was arrested yesterday in Milwaukee on charges stemming from the Jan. 6 siege of the Capitol.
Beeks, who performs in Superstar under the stage name James T. Justis, is charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia with obstruction of Congress, a felony, as well as a misdemeanor charge of unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds. He made his initial appearance in the Eastern District of Wisconsin after being arrested Tuesday, and was released pending further court proceedings.

Two of the country’s major theatrical venues announced reopening plans today, with the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. set to house Broadway productions beginning in November and October, respectively.
In Los Angeles, the Ahmanson’s 2021-22 season will start later than previously announced – instead of an August opening with Daniel Fish’s Tony Award-winning reimagining of Oklahoma!, the venue will now reopen on Nov. 30 with the Jack Thorne-Matthew Warchus staging of A Christmas Carol. (Oklahoma! is now scheduled for September 2022).
Other productions planned for the Ahmanson’s upcoming season are Hadestown, The Lehman Trilogy, and The Prom, among others.

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre have today announced their 2020 season which opens with their first newly commissioned musical, 101 Dalmatians 16 May a' 21 June, based on Dodie Smith's iconic story set in the heart of Regent's Park with book by Zinnie Harris and music and lyrics by Douglas Hodge. The production is directed by Timothy Sheader, with puppetry designed and directed by Toby Oli. Also confirmed are Katrina Lindsay Set and Costume Designer, Liam Steel Choreographer, Sarah Travis Musical Supervisor and Orchestrator, Howard Hudson Lighting Designer and Tarek Merchant Musical Director. Casting is by Jill Green, with children's casting by Verity Naughton.

Though no relation to NBC’s highly-rated Easter special, Jesus Christ Superstar is heading to North American theaters next year. The touring production hails from London, where it won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival.
Directed by Timothy Sheader and with choreography by Drew McOnie, the North American production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical was announced today by Stephen Gabriel, president of Work Light Productions. The tour is set for Fall 2019.
Casting and dates have not been announced. Plans are for the production to hit more than 50 North American markets.

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, where the 2012 Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods originated, has today announced a season of five productions for 2014. Opening the season on May 15 running until June 7, Artistic Director Timothy Sheader will direct Arthur Miller's 20th Century classic play All My Sons. Harold Brighouse's Hobson's Choice will then run from June 15 until July 12, directed by Nadia Fall, alongside a production of Twelfth Night re-imagined for everyone aged six and over. This production of Shakespeare's comedy for younger audiences will be directed by Max Webster and will also be supported by in-school workshops devised by the Young Shakespeare Company for years 3-6.

Casting directors Jordan Thaler and Heidi Griffiths are holding auditions for the upcoming 50th anniversary of The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park series. This summer's productions at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park are "As You Like It" and "Into the Woods." Equity principal auditions for both shows will be held in February.Shakespeare's "As You Like It" will be directed by Daniel Sullivan, with performances scheduled for June. Lily Rabe, who previously collaborated with Sullivan for her Tony-nominated role in "The Merchant of Venice" in the park and on Broadway in 2010, will star as Rosalind. All other roles are available. Equity principal auditions will be held Monday, February 13 in New York City.Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel will direct "Into the Woods," which will premiere in July.
