Let's begin by talking about the numbers of the Far East Film Festival 26. This year the Feff community will be able to watch 75 films from 11 countries. More precisely, 15 world premieres (including those of restored classics), 24 international premieres, 19 European premieres and 13 Italian premieres. Expected in Udine from 24 April to 2 May, in the historic headquarters of the Teatro Nuovo and in the spaces of the Visionario, the Far East Film Festival 26 will give life to a 9-day long full immersion and it will colour the heart of the city with Asia (there are over 100 thematic events scheduled). A real feast of cinema.

Malbatt: Misi Bakara tells the story of the 19th Malay Regiment of the Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) that volunteered to assist the US Army to rescue the American soldiers stuck in Bakara market in Somalia during the country’s civil war. The episode that occurred in 1993 was the central plot point of Ridley Scott’s 2003 film “Black Hawk Down,” but there was hardly any mention of the heroics of the Malay Regiment in that film. Malbatt: Misi Bakara retells the story from the Malaysian perspective and refines the plot, adding another layer of truth that has remained hidden so far. People often remember the heroics of the American military, and some question, ad nauseam, if they truly were the heroes if they went to ‘save’ a country.
Nobody in Malaysia had told this story from the Malaysian perspective, but Adrian Teh, the director of Malbatt: Misi Bakara, takes the opportunity to...

‘Malbatt: Misi Bakara’ will receive a release comparable with Hollywood blockbusters.
Malaysian action drama Malbatt: Misi Bakara, offering an alternative perspective on the incident that inspired Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down, is set for a local theatrical release on a level normally reserved for Hollywood blockbusters.
Distributed by Gsc Movies, the film will open in more than 150 cinemas across Malaysia on August 24, a week ahead of Malaysia’s Independence Day on August 31. It represents a significant release for a local feature in the country, which usually favours major US titles. It will also receive a day-and-date release in Singapore through Clover Films.

Malaysian historical action movie Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan, directed by Syamsul Yusof, has become the highest-grossing local film of all time in the Asian country, breaking the record set by the director’s own horror film Munafik 2 in 2018.
Mat Kilau has grossed 11.97m (RM53m) in 13 days across Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. While the producers only announce figures for the three territories combined, local distributors say the film has easily overtaken Munafik 2, which grossed 8.5m (RM37.74m) in Malaysia and 10.8m (RM48m) across the region. It has achieved that figure despite going up against Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion and Minions: The Rise Of Gru at the Malaysian box office.
Produced by Studio Kembara and distributed by Skop Productions, Mat Kilau tells the story of a legendary 19th Century Malay warrior, Mat Kilau, who fought against British colonisers and their high taxes.

2022 brings Far East Film back to its historical dimension. The Feff is once again what it has always been since 1999, but it also carries the imprint of all the latest changes: it is an augmented festival, more inclusive, and even more curious. If in the last two years Far East Film was forced to reinventing itself and review its formula with different parameters, these last few months have generated a sudden and wonderful acceleration: a wave of new energy, a vital frenzy which has shaped the twenty-fourth edition.

Well. Check out this trailer for Malaysian martial arts action flich Wira from filmmaker Adrian Teh. Look for The Raid's Yuyan Ruhian while you're at it. A man with ex-military force background prefers to deal with problems using his diplomatic ways, despite being skilled and fearless in fighting. However, he is forced to fight in his attempt to obtain justice for his family and community as he is left with no other options (via Rf). We don't know how we're going to get our eyeballs on Wira but this final trailer is good enough that we could be convinced to pluck them out and mail them to Malaysia in time for its theatrical run in November. There are some good moments of...
