"I thought she was joking when she said she invited you up here." IFC Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Pretty Problems, which originally premiered at this year's SXSW Film Festival in the spring. Jack and Lindsay are invited on a getaway trip with affluent strangers: down the rabbit hole, and into the most unhinged weekend of their lives. Can their relationship survive? This wacky, wild comedy takes a look at the difference between the "haves" and "have nots" on this party trip to a Sonoma Chateau. The film stars Britt Rentschler and Michael Tennant as Lindsay and Jack, with J.J. Nolan, Charlotte Ubben, Graham Outerbridge, Alex Klein, Clayton Froning, Katarina Hughes, Vanessa Chester, and Amy Maghera. This looks like it's trying to make fun of "pretty people" and all their crazy problems, but it also looks so ludicrous it may not even be fun?...

Photo: ‘Skater Girl’/Netflix The term “skater girl” has a very specific image attached to it: Avril Lavigne inspired colorful highlights, baggy clothes, beanies, and the inevitable checkered Vans. Of course, Manjari Makijany was fully aware of this skater girl look, and knew full well she was blatantly subverting expectations when she was naming her heartfelt story about an Indian village girl who comes alive and finds purpose through the sport. “Skater Girl” director Manjari Makijany intentionally built a set that would live after she called cut: the first skatepark in Rajasthan, India, where rural children can find freedom and confidence on four wheels, and even mingle beyond their caste. Her gentle drama is a promotional piece for the project from need to execution to totally tubular climactic skateboarding championship, timed, of course, to coincide with the day her teenage heroine Prerna (Rachel Saanchita Gupta) is to be married.
There will be no kick-flipping of clichés in Makijany’s script, co-written with her sister Vinati Makijany. What’s novel are simply her images of Prerna — whose name means “inspiration” — zipping through her village’s curved alleyways and dusty marketplace, and, in one scene, accidentally launching her board off an old temple and into a river. , which to Makijany could be the happy ending she wants.

For all the perverts out there who think it’s their birthright to peer up women’s skirts, here’s a film that peers right into women’s souls…seven of them, all so grandly scripted they seem to have walked into the film from our lives.
Every one of the seven female protagonists played, let me tell you, by actresses who were born to be their characters, is so sharply written, I came away thinking of them as people whose lives I’d like to know more about. (Ah, us prying Indians, whether it’s skirts or lives, we just love to intrude.) Sadly by the time Pan Nalin’s exceedingly persuasive film ended, one of the ladies was no longer with us. Such is life.

Pan Nalin’s Angry Indian Goddesses is being heralded as “India’s first female buddy movie,” which is such a welcome change for Hindi cinema. But it’s also an overtly feminist film that balances its themes with such witty dialogues and powerful performances.
Nalin introduces to an ensemble of friends who are routinely the subject of sexist micro-aggressions at work and in life. There’s Joanna (Amrit Maghera) an Anglo-Indian who’s struggling to make a name for herself in Bollywood and suffering through B-films to make a living; Pam (Pavleen Gujral) a housewife who has business ambitions but thwarted by a unconvinced husband; Mad (Anushka Manchanda) a singer whose albums aren’t getting picked up; Freida (Sarah-Jane Dias) a photographer struggling to balance her art with a commercial job; Laxmi (Rajshri Deshpande) a maid who’s taking her harassers to task; Nargis (Tannishtha Chatterjee) an activist who’s...

After the initial slate for the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival was announced last month there were many observers, including this pundit, who wondered of the annual September event had once again lost the battle of premieres to its Fall festival cousins. While debuting Ridley Scott's "The Martian," Jean Marc Valle's "Demolition" and Michael Moore's "Where Do We Invade Next" is nothing to sneeze at the fact some of the most anticipated films of the year are heading to Venice and Telluride first has to be a bit disheartening. Especially when it's your 40th anniversary. Never fear fans of the Great White North, Toronto always seems to land some eyebrow raising last minute additions and this year is no different. Today Tiff announced that David Gordon Green's "Our Brand Is Crisis" with Sandra Bullock, Marc Abraham's "I Saw The Light" with Tom Hiddleston, Catherine Hardwicke's "Miss You Already...

To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.
‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2
The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Kudos to Shiamak on giving the song a big ‘dhoom!’
