Exclusive: Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Manny Jacinto (Freakier Friday), and Fiona Shaw (Bad Sisters) will topline The Stalemate, an absurdist Western comedy from first-time feature filmmaker Nicholas Arioli, who’s directing from his own script.

Currently in production in Santa Fe, New Mexico, The Stalemate focuses on a robber (Jacinto) and sheriff (Foster) who, out of bullets and far from town, must negotiate their way out of an absurd, unending chase in the Old West.

“I spent many years writing this completely absurd movie,” Arioli said, “and I’m honored to work with such an incredible team who are as excited as I am to bring it to life. The Stalemate is part wacky buddy comedy, part poignant Western elegy – and just straight up a ton of fun. We can’t wait to share it!”

Julia Stiles made her name in hugely popular films like 10 Things I Hate About You, Down To You, Save the Last Dance and The Prince and Me. She went on to star in indie dramas like The Business of Strangers, before starring opposite Matt Damon in the Bourne franchise. In recent years she has appeared in films like Hustlers and, most recently Heather Graham’s Chosen Family. She has also worked on the small screen, starring in Amazon Original comedy series The Lake.

Now? She makes her directorial debut with romantic drama Wish You Were Here.

When I saw on Deadline that filming has wrapped on an action thriller called Turbulence, my first thought was, “Is it a remake?” This despite the fact that there have been multiple films with the title Turbulence over the years. I thought it might have something to do with the 1997 film with the title, which starred Lauren Holly as a flight attendant stuck on a plane with a serial killer played by Ray Liotta. As it turns out, the new Turbulence doesn’t have anything to do with that franchise… but it is a hot air balloon thriller that stars Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), so it might make for an interesting viewing experience.

Exclusive: Filming has wrapped in the UK on under-the-radar action-thriller Turbulence, starring Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone), Hera Hilmar (See) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier).

The film reunites the team behind 2024 action film No Way Up, including director Claudio Faeh (Northmen: A Viking Saga) and writer Andy Mayson, who also produces.

The synopsis reads: “Young married couple Zach and Emmy decide to take a hot air balloon trip across the Italian Dolomites to rekindle their relationship. When they and pilot Harry are joined by a third passenger, Julia, events unfold in ways they could never imagine five thousand meters in the air.”

The film was shot on location in the Dolomites and London, with studio shooting at Twickenham studios. It is now in post-production.

The Entertainment 360, Phiphen, and Hemlock Circle production stars Peter Sarsgaard (Dopesick), Billy Magnussen (Roadhouse), Sarah Gadon (Alias Grace) and Skye P. Marshall (Good Sam).

The comedy had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival’s Giornate Degli Autori, and Greenwich will release the film in theaters this summer.

Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6) and Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire) star in the story about a 2002 incident when a young American couple traveled to the arctic mountains of Norway. After pulling over during a snowstorm, they wake up trapped in their SUV, buried underneath layers of snow and ice. It is soon revealed that the woman is eight months pregnant. Amid escalating tension between them and dwindling supplies, the couple battles -30C temperatures, hallucinations and hypothermia in their struggle to survive.

Written, directed and produced by Lauren Miller Rogen (For A Good Time Call), the film follows a workaholic young executive who is left at the altar and ends up on her Caribbean honeymoon cruise with the last person she ever expected: her estranged and equally workaholic father (Kelsey Grammer). There is such a thing as putting too much of one’s self into something. Wish I Was Here, the new Zach Braff film that was partially funded by Kickstarter, is sort of the kind of film you’d expect from him. Unfortunately, the movie does nothing truly innovative and a moving second half can’t save a film that’s all over the place.
