Welcome to the first Versus of 2022 and it is a big one to start! This year I wanted to go bigger than just pitting similar characters together. 2022 is also the 30th anniversary of the birth of Image Comic, so what better way to start than by having the Image 7 face off in the versus arena, with their biggest and best issues going toe-to-toe. The story of Image Comics is still fascinating to this day and it still represents the biggest seismic shift in the comic industries landscape. In a nutshell, the era is the early 90s, the seven biggest talents in the industry are all working for Marvel Comics and they have had enough of the way the industry works. They get a lot of flak for being the cause of the comic market crash. That is a sign of the impact they made. DC and Marvel were scrambling to...

Wonder Women, Batmen, Baby Yodas and Ultramen were among the hundreds of cosplayers who showed up at the Singapore Comic Con taking place at the Marina Bay Sands on Saturday. Thousands more queued to get inside the massive event.
A bewitching array of almost every well-known comic character on the planet, and events around them were thronged by Singaporeans celebrating their weekend. Given the imminent Dec. 19 release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” evidence of that universe was very much on show.
Fans were deeply immersed in Gamersaurus Rex’s tabletop experiences where players enacted battles between opposing forces using hand painted miniature models, in games like “Warhammer 40,000,” “X-Wing,” “Dungeons and Dragons” and “A Song Of Ice And Fire.”

Renowned graphic novel artists Andy Kubert (“Batman”) and Whilce Portacio,(“X-Men”) were on hand to share their vast experience at the Singapore ComicCon on Saturday. The event is a new addition to the annual Singapore Media Festival.
Kubert and Portacio said that, despite the popularity of comic books, it is quite hard to break into the industry, and that practitioners have to excel. Kubert is the son of legendary artist Joe Kubert (“Sgt. Rock”) and is a graduate of and teaches at The Kubert School, founded by his father. “I help a lot of newcomers come in,” said Kubert. “They have to be very good and talented. You will get rejected and rejected, but don’t ever give up. If you love it, stick with it.”
Speaking about writing versus art, Kubert said, “Writing is a whole different ball game, it’s a whole different set of muscles and I...

The 90′s are synonymous with two things in comics history. The birth of the superstar artist and the crash of the comic market. Are the two related? The polite answer is possibly. But there were many factors that contributed to the crash. Between 1993 and 1997 the comics industry hit an all time low, a low it only recovered from towards the end of the 00′s. Because of the crash a lot of comic book fans look on the 90′s with disdain. But for every fan that hates it there are two who look back at that time with such fondness.
When you think of Image Comics now you think of a publisher closest to breaking the big twos dominance. You think of consistently well told series like The Walking Dead, Southern Bastards and Saga. Series that a equal in quality of writers and artists. Though leaning more towards the writers. When...

About a year ago, DC had quite the full plate: Not only were they knee-deep in their new Rebirth initiative, but they were also waiting to unleash the Suicide Squad movie on the masses. So, being wise, they coincided Task Force X’s relaunched book with said film, with a lineup reflecting what was offered on the big screen. Basically, if you wanted more of Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc and the rest of the crew, all you had to do was pick up a comic written by Rob Williams.
In the time since, the series has not only forged its own path, but has also become one of the better team-up books DC has to offer. Yes, a lot has gone down, but right now is the time to jump on the bandwagon if you...

Over the past couple years the X-Men comics have gone through major story lines and the team dismantled and reassembled in many forms. Since 2012 Marvel event Avengers vs. X-Men comic sales for this beloved franchise went on a decline. Majority of fans believed that Marvel Studios wanted the series to do poorly and fans to forget about the X-Men so the Fox would give up rights to the movie franchise. Although that was speculation the plan never worked since Fox was successful with Days of Future Past and Apocalypse. Slowly over the past year Marvel Comics has righted the ship by bringing in favorites like Old Man Logan, X-23, Young Cyclops, and Kitty Pryde back into the main stream X-Men universe. Marvel Comics has made 2017 the RessurXion of the X-Men universe. With the team Marvel has assembled to steer these new series, lets hope that the X-Men...
