CBS Studios said that a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former top reality executive is “without merit,” and claims that the executive, Ghen Maynard, was not terminated but that his contract was not renewed.
Maynard, who developed such hits as Survivor and The Amazing Race, filed a lawsuit against the network on Monday, claiming age and race discrimination. He also claimed that the network conducted a biased investigation into “a false and ludicrous allegation that he mistreated a female coworker on the writing team.” The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and names CBS Studios and parent CBS Corp. as defendant.
In response to the lawsuit (read it here), a CBS spokesperson said, “Mr. Maynard’s contract was not renewed due to the elimination of the Studio’s alternative programming department. The claims in this suit are completely without merit, and we will defend against it vigorously.”

Longtime exec Angelica McDaniel has exited her post as executive VP in daytime programs, CBS Entertainment. McDaniel leaves amid a restructuring that will see her department absorbed by current programming, headed by Amy Resisenbach.
The move is being made in an effort to streamline the reporting structure at CBS Entertainment under president Kelly Kahl. That effort gives CBS a reporting structure that more closely resembles those found at other broadcast networks.
McDaniel has been with CBS since 2010. She oversaw the launch of “The Talk,” the roundtable talker that has grown steadily to rival ABC’s long-established “The View” in the 11 a.m. hour. In her network role, McDaniel also supervises soaps “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” and gameshows “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price Is Right.”
Deadline was the first to report the news of McDaniel’s departure from CBS.

Happy Sunday, "Bold And The Beautiful" fans. We have some great news for you guys in this new article. It turns out that the show is still doing so well that CBS decided to renew it and give it another season! That's right, guys? We will continue to see new "Bold And The Beautiful" episodes throughout the rest of 2019 and into 2020. You know ? Now that I think about it, I'm not even really sure when a particular season of any of these soap operas ends because they air every weekday, Monday through Friday, all year around. So, whenever I hear this, I'm always like, "Ok, I wasn't really aware the season had ended, but thanks." Anyways, the renewal apparently took place towards the end of April 2019 according to the folks over at TV Line.com. CBS’ The Talk finally confirmed on air that Marie Osmond is taking the seat left vacant by the exit of Sara Gilbert.
Osmond is joining Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. She’s no stranger to the show, having guest hosted more than 40 times over the years. Gilbert announced last month she is departing the show at the end of Season 9, and Osmond joins when the series returns for Season 10.
Osmond and her brother Donny currently have a residency at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, where they do five shows a week; the siblings announced the 11-year run will end in November.
Osmond, maybe best known on TV these days as the face of the NutriSystem diet plan, previously guest hosted on The Talk, and ratings responded. Word she would be named new co-host surfaced last week.
It’s not Osmond’s first time co-hosting a series.

“It’s official!” CBS announced as The Talk returned to air with an original episode and Carrie Ann Inaba as new host, replacing Julie Chen.
About a month after word got out that frontrunner/frequent fill-in Inaba had won the derby to replace the wife of ousted CBS CEO Les Moonves’ on the daily talk show, Inaba made her “official” debut today, joining Eve, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. Throughout the past two seasons, Inaba has appeared as a recurring guest co-host.
“The last few months have been really, really tough on all of us,” Osbourne told Inaba on Wednesday’s broadcast, crediting her with having “brought us together and we love you for that.”
Inaba’s maybe best known serving as a judge on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars for all 27 seasons, since its debut in 2005. As an original judge, she has appeared in every episode to date.

According to an online report, The Young and the Restless head writer and executive producer Mal Young has been fired and replaced by Josh Griffith.
Young, best known for his work on British soap opera EastEnders, had a mixed record at Y&R. Despite some wonderful moments and episodes, Young's Y&R was never consistently entertaining, and he often repeated mistakes made by producers of many past canceled soaps. The addition of the rather boring Rosales family this year made some fans complain they were replacing beloved vets like Doug Davidson, who was taken off contract after decades of playing Paul Williams.
Longtime star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) got dragged into the discussion after speaking out. He tweeted the following on Sunday: "To those who are dying to start shit with me, go for it!! But don’t you dare accuse me of 'racist' attitude when I have spent my lifetime going against that evil,...

CBS Films president Terry Press has posted a comment on her personal Facebook page about her longtime boss, Les Moonves. It is less unanimously supportive than the statements issued Friday by Moonves’ wife Julie Chen and female CBS executives Ad Sales chief Jo Ann Ross and head of daytime Angelica McDaniel. Press was outspoken last October in saying she would quit the Academy unless Harvey Weinstein was banished, so it became a natural to wonder how she would respond at charges leveled at her boss by six women who claimed he made aggressive sexual overtures and froze them out when they were rebuffed. Moonves is by far the most powerful media executive facing a precipitous fall due to charges made in print by women charging objectionable behavior from decades ago. This is a painful moment for female executives reeling from these charges landing close to home, as they try to...

The story painted a disturbing picture of sexual harassment over several decades based on accusations by six women, including actress Illeana Douglas.
Ross went on to say that Moonves “has never been threatening or abusive,” “showing the deepest respect at all times.”
