The Amazing Race marches closer to its season finale as CBS does their best to burn off all the episodes of this season as quickly as possible. It is another two-parter for The Amazing Race and that is a bit worrisome since the first one didn't go so well. This first two-parter lacked any cohesion. Even though it had non-elimination leg paired with an elimination leg it was in the exact opposite order in should have been ordered. This two-parter thankfully learns the mistake of the first making for a much more enjoyable experience ... even if Brooke reaches a new low (or high) of impatience and whining. ...

The Amazing race is leaving Lake Como and going to Venice this week. #TeamFun is in the lead. They’re besties. But not all teams are getting along. Scott says having a partner like Brooke with a glass is half empty outlook is really difficult. Other teams are happy as clams. Joey says Tara’s multilingual talents are helping everybody through the race. They all boat up the canal into Venice, and it’s truly spectacular looking. The Detours are Sing It or Bring It. Mike and Liz have trouble finding the clue, and #TeamLoLo rolls right by them, ignoring their plea for...read more...

[This recap of Friday (October 3) night's "The Amazing Race" may be a bit rushed. I've got some Yom Kippur atoning to do. But I still want to do some honor to a decent enough Leg.] As you may have heard from a unshaven, drunk, pot-belled WWII era manager, there is no crying in baseball. Nobody has ever made the same claim about "The Amazing Race." In actuality, there's a lot of crying on "The Amazing Race." And I'm not entirely without understanding. Let's say you're an "Amazing Race" superfan and you've actually taken the time to study Race strategy and accumulate some of the skills that normally pay dividends and then you find yourself actually on "The Amazing Race" and in only your second Leg, you find yourself falling victim to a semi-unavoidable combination of current and lack of upper-body strength? I guess I can allow for some sniffling, especially if your commitment to remaining in...

It's going to take a while before this feels normal, isn't it? Friday (September 28) marked a new time period premiere for "The Amazing Race," which kicked off its 25th installment far from the Sunday 8 p.m. home in which viewers have become accustomed to football/golf/basketball delays throughout the year. That means that instead of having Sunday come to an abrupt end in the late afternoon as I wait for "The Amazing Race" to start, a normal Friday workday just never ends. So... Yay! Friday's "Amazing Race" premiere had the disadvantage of following a very good "Survivor" launch on Wednesday. I say it every year, but there's just not enough time in a single hour to properly introduce a full assortment of reality show contestants and also deliver satisfactory and fun challenges. So Wednesday's "Survivor" got to be 90 minutes and, perhaps as a result, I finished the premiere with...

Another day, another CBS reality show cast announcement, as "The Amazing Race" has revealed the 11 teams competing in the upcoming season. Thursday's (August 28) cast announcement was rather different from CBS' Wednesday unveiling of the latest "Survivor" cast, which includes controversy-inflaming former Major Leaguer John Rocker and former "Amazing Race" veterans Nadiya and Natalie Anderson. CBS actually announced the 11 "Amazing Race" teams back at the end of May, when a very public starting line in the heart of Times Square required some measure of early transparency lest social media spoil all the secrets ahead of time. So we already know that "Soul Surfer" hero Bethany Hamilton and husband Adam Dirks are in the cast, as are Robbie E. Strauss and Brooke Adams, who I'm told I'd know if I paid more attention to wrestling. The cast also includes Whitney Duncan and Keith Tollefson, who I only vaguely remember from their runs on "Survivor: South Pacific.

Cinemark increasingly looks like it will have to face a jury over liability for the July 20, 2012 fatal shooting rampage at the Aurora, Colo., midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises. For the second time in a year and a half, a federal judge in Colorado has refused Texas-based Cinemark’s legal efforts to end the lawsuit by victims and their families that blames a lack of adequate security at the venue for contributing to the deaths of their loved ones.
‘This Court is in no way holding as a matter of law that Cinemark should have known of the danger of someone entering one of its theaters through the back door and randomly shooting innocent patrons,” said Judge R. Brooke Jackson in his Aug. 15 order (read it here). “I hold only that a court cannot grant summary judgment on what is normally a question of fact under Colorado law unless...

Bucking years of delayed gratification and withholding, CBS and "The Amazing Race" announced the show's Season 25 cast on Saturday (May 31) morning, just hours after the contestants left the starting line in New York City. In recent years, it has become an annual tradition for "Amazing Race" enthusiasts to be able to cobble together the identities of between 85 and 100 percent of the teams based on purloined cell phone pictures snapped from airports and outside challenges around the globe, images that were then matched with cryptic tweets and obscure Facebook status updates to the point of near-certainty. Despite those reports, though, CBS reliably waited until weeks before premiere for a full, formal casting announcement. The reason for the Season 25 deviation is simple: Rather than picking a starting line in a remote location or at a controllable venue like a stadium, the 11 participating teams left Times Square earlier this morning from the civilian-packed...

After the shooting tragedy last July 20 in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, families of those hurt or killed looked for someone to blame. James Holmes is being charged with the criminal act of murders and attempted murder, but that wasn't enough for several victims. Ten separate lawsuits were filed against Cinemark, the owner of the theater where the shooting took place, which responded by saying that it couldn't have foreseen a shocking criminal act. On Wednesday, U.S. District Court judge Richard Brooke Jackson considered whether the lawsuits should proceed. In a personal

Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan swears on his passport that season 17's finale, which airs Sunday on CBS, is chock full "memorable and very cool moments." And that's saying a lot considering this season saw a contestant get a runaway watermelon to the face, an on-air proposal, the longest penalty and a team who slept through their pit stop departure time by more than two hours. "It's hard to believe, but this is the first time in our series history that we've ended the race in Los Angeles. Nothing like maneuvering your way to the finish line through L.A.

Here is Sean Furfaro 's recap of The Amazing Race - Episode 11.
Tonight was actually my own Amazing Race. I flew out of Toronto at 4:00 Et, and arrived in Vancouver at 6:00 Pt. From the airport, to a quick stop at a friend’s house, to my hotel to check in, and a quick dodge out to grab a bite to eat, I had it all planned and ready to be sitting in front of the TV in my hotel room for 8:00 to watch tonight’s episode. It was a close call, but one scraped knee, a scraped elbow, a twisted ankle, and a spectacular pen explosion later…I limped to my hotel couch at 7:57. This is my commitment to these recaps, people!
My Random Thoughts:
- Is there a more redundant instruction when directing the teams to the border between South Korea and North Korea than...

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
Or, as I like to say, if the story was a movie, no one would believe it because it’s so improbable.
Isn’t that kind of the case with Chad and Stephanie getting engaged and winning the eighth leg of The Amazing Race on the same day? If The Amazing Race was not a reality television show, we would roll our eyes and waive our hands because it was a lame ending. But, this is reality television and despite some deserved skepticism about how “reality” these shows are sometimes, we’re constantly reassured that nothing is manufactured.
Certainly the moment wasn’t manufactured. There’s almost no way for the producers to get Jill and Thomas to illegally pay a cab to let them follow it to the Pit Stop. However, I’m a bit skeptical about how the editing process went to...

Somewhere after the less than spectacular family edition of The Amazing Race (season 8) the show has become more controlled. Gone are the days of the specific twelve hour rest period at the Pit Stop. No longer do we see teams with one or two hour leads on the competition.
Most of the time the result of these changes has been that teams are bunched closer together making for more drama on the final race to the Pit Stop. What is also possible is what we witnessed last night on “Tastes Like A Million Dollars,” a leg where virtually nothing happens.
During the early seasons the legs were longer and more stretched out. Navigation played a much bigger role in each leg. This created two scenarios. First, if a team had a lead and avoided mistakes, it was very difficult to catch them. The second, however, was that if a team made a mistake,...

She's back! Big Brother 12 firecracker Rachel Reilly, a Las Vegas cocktail waitress before she became a reality-tv villainess, has landed a recurring role on The Bold and the Beautiful (TV). She'll play a waitress at the show's tropical hangout Bikini Beach, and be joined by her Big Brother beau Brendon Villegas, who will play a bartender. They first air October 25-26, then return November 18-19. TV Guide Magazine grilled the duo about their move from Big to Bold — and of course we had to ask about their showmance! Did it turn out to be the real thing? TV Guide Magazine: Gotta love that CBS synergy! You guys wasted no time landing B&B right after the Big Brother finale. What's next, The Amazing Race? Rachel: I'd love it if we could be like [Big Brother 11's] Jeff and Jordan and do The Amazing Race — that would be a dream come true — but...

This week’s episode of The Amazing Race, “We Should Have Brought Gloves and Butt Pads”, reminded us that competition on the race is a team effort more.
Despite individual challenges such as the Roadblocks, the ability to work with your teammate and know their strengths and weaknesses is as important as your own ability to carry the team.
Sure, sometimes what the race throws at a team and how that plays into their strengths and weaknesses has a large element of luck to it. This week’s Detour challenged teams to cruise down a snow track on a new Tech Sled or complete a tedious native tent build.
As Vicki said, “We’re more of a physical couple than mental” and their experience skiing and riding enabled them to nail the Sled course in one try and pass three teams in the process. Knowing they were a better physical...

The clip has been making the television rounds for weeks, but last night on the premiere of The Amazing Race, we finally got to see the context in which Claire got drilled in the face with a watermelon from the backfiring ballista.
However, in my opinion, it wasn’t the best part of the episode, despite all the hype that it has received. That goes to Nick and Vicki and their tremendous interview with Phil on the pit stop mat.
The challenge and interest of the first leg of this seventeenth edition of The Amazing Race fell beneath the high standards that have been set on previous seasons. Often the opening legs have many more clues than subsequent legs and lead teams all over the place with a number of different challenges. Scaling a wall with water being dumped on you and firing a watermelon from a ballista do not...

It's time to celebrate the era of polyester, disco, punk rock and platform shoes! The year is 1978 and the dead rise once again to terrorize Coterie audiences trapped in Crown Center's Off Centre Theatre during Maul of the Dead, runs through October 31. The world premiere, by Mitch Brian and directed by Ron MeGee, is inspired by the favorite zombie movie of all time, Dawn of the Dead. Maul of the Dead is part of the Coterie At Night series that brings evening-only performances to older audiences.
A decade and a day after Night of the Living Dead, six strangers take refuge in an abandoned shopping mall, only to find zombies behind every mannequin and planter. The motley crew of survivors include a pale ‘Sid Vicious' beauty, two high-powered Swat team agents, a local TV weather woman, and a traffic chopper dude who seek to find 'a morning after' in...

Jaime Dugan and fiancé Erik Huffman may have lost out as competitors on Survivor: China but the newly-engaged couple just won an opportunity of a lifetime: a dream wedding. The pair, who grew up just 25 miles apart, won an $80,000 wedding courtesy of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in Charleston, S.C., not far from their hometowns in upstate South Carolina. "The cast is on the guest list because they were there every step of the way," Dugan tells People. "[Winner] Todd Herzog has already called us. He's stoked and he's coming. Peih-Gee [Law], Sherea [Lloyd] and Frosti [Zernow], they've already booked flights.
