Russian filmmaker Ekaterina Selenkina’s urban drama Figures In The Urban Landscape has won the $50,000 Eurimages Lab Project Award at the Les Arcs Film Festival in the French Alps.
The production, capturing day-to-day life on the outskirts of Moscow through the drug drops of a local dealer, was among 18 projects at the production stage in Les Arcs’ Work In Progress event.
It is Selenkina’s first feature after a handful of shorts including the well-travelled Storge. Moscow-based producer Vladimir Nadein presented the project.

Jonas Alexander Arnby, Ágnes Kocsis and Poland’s Agnieszka Smoczyńska will be among the directors presenting new projects at Les Arc Film Festival’s Co-production Village, running Dec 15 to 17.
Hungarian filmmaker Kocsis will attend with romantic drama Iron Song, about the real-life love story between Latvian composer Imants Kalniņš and Us writer Kelly Cherry in the 1960s.
Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska will present her first English-language project Silent Twins, about siblings who communicate using a private language of their own creation after spending 14 years in Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital.

Israel’s Haifa International Film Festival (September 22 - October 1) has launched a script development programme called the Haifa Script Distillery to support Israeli writers to develop English-language film and TV scripts.
The initiative has been unveiled during this year’s festival where 20 projects chosen from 400 entries are being presented (See full list below). Six to eight works will be shortlisted and will each receive a development grant of 50,000 Nis. Each writer will be mentored and receive training from tutors and supporting partners.

Exclusive: Two Canadian partners have joined Dana Lerer’s first feature.
Robert Lantos, the producer of David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises and Richard J. Lewis’s Barney’s Version, is on board to produce the feature directing debut of emerging Israeli actress-filmmaker Dana Lerer.
Lerer, a Tel Aviv University graduate, has directed five shorts to date, including The Fine Line, which played at Jerusalem Film Festival in 2015, winning a special mention from the short film competition jury and going on to be nominated for an Israeli Oscar. Lantos saw that film, and their collaboration began after that.
With a working title of Seven Nights, Lerer’s feature debut is being made with two Canadian partners: Lantos’ Serendipity Point Films and Julia Rosenberg, whose credits include István Szabó’s Sunshine, from January Films.
