Valencia the book, written by Michelle Tea, was something of a game-changer when it came out in 2000. Encapsulating the glory, the burn out, and the guerilla punk aesthetic of ‘90s queerdom in San Francisco, Valencia captured the literal and metaphoric spunk of an era, which was especially welcome since prior lesbian lit was too often relegated to the pulpy (Rubyfruit Jungle) or the depressing (Well of Loneliness).
Valencia: The Movie/s took the pioneering spirit of the book and gave it a drag queen makeover. Experimental, ambitious, and Big, Valencia brought together a whopping 20 queer filmmakers who each contributed a five to seven minute short (18 total) based on a chapter from the book. Frontlined by Tea and producer/director Hilary Goldberg, some of the filmmakers included Cheryl Dunye, Courtney Trouble, Silas Howard, Michelle Lawler, Samuel Topiary and Cary Cronenwett. Each short stars a different “Michelle” as well,...

Good morning and Happy Memorial Day! I love a woman in uniform.
Blue is the Warmest Color took home the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend. The lesbian film won the Palme d'Or as voted on by a jury spearheaded by Steven Spielberg who said of the win:
The film is a great love story … We were absolutely spellbound by the two brilliant young actresses, and the way the director observed his young players. It was an obvious conclusion that without Léa and Adèle, the synergy could not have happened. If the casting had been even slightly different, if anything had been a little left of centre, it wouldn't have worked. It was the perfect choice from a sensitive film-maker."

Good morning!
I'm super excited that Carol has found a director and it's Todd Haynes, who did Far From Heaven and Mildred Pierce. Out lesbian Christine Vachon, who has made many of my favorite films, will co-produce. Now the adaptation of The Price of Salt can finally get rolling!
Buzzfeed compiled The 10 Queerest Disney Movies and Mulan comes in at number one. I always thought she was hot in drag.
Over at Flavorwire, Michelle Tea named her five favorite books about teen girls in trouble. I have some reading to do!
Holly Miranda lends her voice to this new MMoths song, but she's not in the creepy video.
Patty Schemel is #82 on Spin's 100 Greatest Alternative Drummers. I'd have her much higher on my list.
Mount Moriah recorded a set for NPR's World Cafe.
Great news from Cannes!

Good morning!
Apparently Brit Marling and Ellen Page kiss during a game of spin-the-bottle in their new film The East. That's a good enough reason to see it, Imo. The film opens May 31.
The co-stars seem pretty close.
The B Word: Bisexuality in Contemporary Film and Television touches on everything from Tila Tequila to Chasing Amy. Check it out.
Oh Lord. Former Jersey Shore "star" Angelina kisses another woman in this new music video.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have bought yet another new home. This one is a straight-up mansion and cost $26.5 million.
Leighton Meester was spotted filming Life Partners at Long Beach Pride over the weekend. How could you miss her in that outfit?
This video is a tad Nsfw, but it has Amber Tamblyn making out with Amy Schumer. Unfortunately,...

Killer Films (which is home to out producer Christine Vachon) are working with Ariel (who also used to write for The L Word) to create the film version of the 2000 comic/graphic novel, which chronicled her life as an out lesbian in the eleventh grade.
Queer writer and Sister Spit creator Michelle Tea posted an interview with Ariel on the Sfmoma blog today, giving us some insight into what's going on with the production of Potential. Ariel told Tea, "It’s moving along! We just got a great new producer, Jamin O’Brien. Rose Troche is directing and she’s amazing. I love working with her. We’re hoping to shoot this spring."
