"Country Strong" filmmaker Shana Feste is in talks to rewrite and direct "Endless Love" for Universal Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Scott Spencer's 1979 novel, the story follows two teenagers and their all-consuming love for each other.
Things go wrong when the boy turns obsessive and concocts a plan to ingratiate himself with the girl’s family by setting her house on fire.
Josh Safran wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay which Feste will polish. Scott Stuber, Pam Abdy, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will produce.
The book was previously adapted for the screen in 1981 starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewett, though is better remembered for the title song by Diana Ross.

Love stories never go out of style, especially when there's already a familiar one to remake for a new audience. THR reports Shana Feste, who last directed the troubled country singer drama Country Strong starring Gwyneth Paltrow, is in talks to be at the helm of a remake of Endless Love. The original 1981 film, which was based on the novel of the same name by Scott Spencer, starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewett as two teens who fall madly in love with each other. However, their romance turns sour when the boy gets a little obsessive thinks it's a good idea to get on her family's good side by setting their house on fire. Read on! The film is responsible for turning Brooke Shields into a star, not to mention giving us the chart-topping title song by Diana Ross, so maybe this will give an opportunity to another rising starlet...
