From “Spy” to “Inside Out,” these are the major motion picture casts that still have us raving. “Inside Out”Don’t discredit one of the year’s best ensembles just because you can’t see its actors; the Disney Pixar animated film boasts a troupe of A-listers so masterfully cast that they can convey every nuance with their voices alone. Living inside 11-year-old Riley’s head, her emotions Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) are tested when Riley’s parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan) decide to move the family from the Midwest to San Francisco. Joy, who’s used to being in charge, fights to regain control when the stress of Riley changing schools, leaving her friends behind, and moving out of her childhood home pushes Sadness to the forefront. Much like writer-director Pete Docter’s previous films (“Up,...

Pixar's Inside Out arrives on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere (Dma) on October 13 (to be followed by a DVD/Blu-ray release on November 3), and we've got a really cool exclusive behind-the-scenes moment from the movie that's only available if you pick up Inside Out via Disney Movies Anywhere. During one of the film's more inventive sequences, Joy, Sadness and Bing Bong find themselves in need of a shortcut to the Train of Thought in the hopes it'll get them back to headquarters. They decide to cut through the Abstract Thought building despite a warning sign to keep out. And then things get really weird. While creating the sequence, Pixar designers had to figure out a way to give some visual definition to the four stages of abstract thought while still...

Amongst animation fans, Ralph Eggleston is something of a legend.
Pixar hired Eggleston in 1992, when the studio was in full swing on the first "Toy Story" and he has served as a production designer, storyboard artist, writer and director. (In 2000, his short film, "For the Birds," won an Academy Award.) He has contributed substantially to every Pixar film and this week's "Inside Out" is no different.
For the brilliant new film that takes place inside the head of an 11-year-old girl, Eggleston served as Production Designer. And it's a pretty unbelievable task, conjuring forth worlds as vast as the human mind (including the subconscious, Dreamland Studios, where dreams are made, the Train of Thought, and, of course, Headquarters).
We sat down with Eggleston and talked about the film's lengthy development and production process, being part of the fabric of Pixar, and what he's got coming up next.

When you're invited by Pixar to check out footage from their upcoming movie, you don't turn it down. In fact, you count the days until the glorious moment that you're sitting the theater, ready to be wowed by the latest entry in an already esteemed library of animated films.
Last Thursday (June 19), we were treated to select, work-in-progress scenes from Disney-Pixar's "Inside Out"(which comes out June 19, 2015) from the creative team behind "Up," Oscar-winning director Pete Docter and Oscar-nominated producer Jonas Rivera. While we don't want to give away everything we saw (where's the fun in that?), we will kick your imagination into overdrive with some of the highlights.
Before we get started, you're going to need to know the story (if you don't already), and it's best to let the studio tell it to you straight:
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley,...

For the first time in nearly a decade, Pixar Animation Studios is taking the year off. The Emeryville-Calif.-based company will not be releasing a film in 2014, and it also finds itself in an interesting position, striving to maintain its identity as a haven for bold original visions while at the same time seeing some of its biggest successes inevitably move into franchise and sequel terrain. Wednesday night representatives of the studio took over a theater in West Hollywood's Directors Guild of America (DGA) headquarters to present materials from one such original vision from "Monsters, Inc." and "Up" director Pete Docter: "Inside Out." The film is set for release exactly one year from now, on June 19, 2015. Producer Jonas Rivera quipped that such a seemingly long lead is "dog years" in animation time, where projects typically move at a glacial pace for years on end. When he and Docter finished...

Last month we got a new synopsis for Pixar's upcoming animated feature Inside Out. It gave us a few new details on what we will see in the story, but today we have even more info on the movie to share with you thanks to Variety.
They were on hand at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in southern France, where director Peter Docter screened a couple of scenes from film and also talked a little about it.
The story follows a 12-year-old girl named Riley and centers on the emotions inside of her head as she deals with moving to a new place. The director says that "Riley is not our main character; she is our setting.” He also reveals that the story is "based on a strong emotional experience I had watching my daughter grow up. There is something that is lost when you grow up."

Pixar turned its table lamp on its voice actors for the upcoming films The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out at the Disney fan convention D23.
The equivalent of Disney’s Comic-Con brought new revelations about the plots for the upcoming movies, which feature a dinosaur keeping a toddler human as a pet, a journey inside the workings of the human mind, and a return to the ocean for a sequel to a Pixar classic.
Disney animation czar John Lasseter also showed off footage from the films, and presided over a parade of voice talent.

Unlike classic hip-hop producer/Mc duos like Guru and DJ Premier, or Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, the partnership of Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek, a.k.a. Reflection Eternal, isn’t rooted in the producer’s signature sound. For better or worse, Hi-Tek is a sonic chameleon, and Revolutions Per Minute, the duo’s decade-in-the-making follow-up to Train Of Thought, sounds like it could have been mastered by the requisite team of producers. Revolutions Per Minute is strongest when guests push Reflection Eternal in intriguing new directions. “Midnight Hour,” for example, swings like one of Mark Ronson’s ...

Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek drop Revolutions Per Minute--10 years after debut LP.

Reflection Eternal released their second studio album Revolutions Per Minute earlier this week — 10 years after the release of their first album, Train of Thought. The hip-hop duo made up of Talib Kweli and producer Hi-Tek made a blast in 2000 with their critically acclaimed debut, but failed to follow it up with another LP until now.
The pair recently released the video for their single "Midnight Hour," featuring Estelle, and they seem to have naturally evolved in the decade since they became a group to watch. But Hi-Tek admitted it was difficult recapturing their chemistry at first.
"Once we got it started, I think the initial thing was just actually getting that natural chemistry and not just doing it just because somebody wants us to do it," he said.

Road, Movie
The comma spliced title of the film kept me intrigued for quite some time. The nitpicker in me hit the books to find a reason as to why the words 'road' and 'movie' are separated by a comma? Here's what I found out: It has to do with a train. Train of thought. "You're looking good, let's go have some coffee" doesn't necessarily mean "you're looking good so let's go and have some coffee". The readers are free to make their own connections between the two fragments/ideas, separated by the comma, in the first example. While in the other the connection is made more than apparent. This kind of construction of sentences - paratactic syntax - is usually employed by poets to juxtapose different kinds of imagery to fire up the readers' imagination. Cutting short this aside in linguistics, I think it's a brilliant and a promising title,...
