When Netflix’s “Squid Game” became a global phenomenon in 2021, it catapulted its cast into the international spotlight. For Anupam Tripathi, the India-born, Korea-based actor who portrayed Ali Abdul, it marked a turning point in his career that has since spanned continents and industries.
“After ‘Squid Game,’ life has turned around a lot for me,” Tripathi tells Variety. “Everybody knows me in the Korean industry now.” Post “Squid Game,” Tripathi played the role of Prince Samir in Korean drama “King the Land,” which brought increased public recognition. “It happens every time,” he says of being recognized on the streets. “People remember me. They call me Ali. And sometimes after ‘King the Land,’ they started calling me Prince.”
The actor’s rise hasn’t been limited to Korea. He recently appeared in Anubhav Sinha’s hit Netflix India series “Ic 814: The Kandahar Hijack,” based on the real-life hijacking of an...

As we binged through the third season of Mirzapur, the question that came frequently to mind was what happened to Maqbool, who was one of the important characters in the series thus far, and why he hasn’t appeared throughout the season. We finally learn the answer in the post-credits sequence of the season finale, where Maqbool is shown to be working in a stone mine and is approached by Radhiya, who informs him that Beena Tripathi has summoned him. If you have not forgotten how intricately Maqbool was involved in Tripathi family turmoil in the previous season, the build-up to the post-credit scene will be pretty understandable. Given how terse the atmosphere of the Up underworld turned out to be in this season, the inevitable power struggle will test the might of every crime lord, including Kaleen Bhaiya, and Maqbool could be the trump card who can bring about...

As far as the Indian Ott scene is concerned, Amazon Studios’ Mirzapur probably boasts the most stacked ensemble of characters, each of whom is intriguing in their own regard and has distinctive motivations and character arcs. In the vicious game played in the arena of politics and the underworld, strength of character is the key to survival, irrespective of one’s allegiance, which has been highlighted prominently throughout the series. While the recently released third season of Mirzapur didn’t add any major characters, the existing ones go through significant ups and downs over the course of ten episodes, and by the time a fourth season gets released, they will take an altogether different stance in the context of the narrative itself. We would like to briefly go through the journeys of the key characters in the third season, while also exploring the future possibilities while we are at it.

We were introduced to Robin, aka Radheyshyam Agarwal, in Mirzapur season 2, and I must say that he was an unlikely addition to the universe. It is so because, for the first time, we were made privy to a person who, though they wanted to earn money by hook or by crook, didn’t want to indulge in any kind of violence. Robin had seen it all: he knew how the world functioned; he was well aware of the power dynamics; he knew who the big players were in the region; but he never aspired to become a part of their world. He did money laundering and financial investments for the mafia; he shared a good rapport with them, but he drew the line for himself, beyond which he never went. He met Guddu Pandit when the latter had gone to Lucknow to drop off Dimpy at her hostel.

The fictionalized political and underworld landscape of Uttar Pradesh has started heating up once again as Amazon Studios’ massively popular crime drama Mirzapur returns with its third season after four long years, bringing all the guns, guts, and glory fans could have asked for. Much like the first season, the second one ended on a cliffhanger, as Guddu and Golu took their revenge by killing Munna Tripathi and grievously injured Kaleen Bhaiya, and in the process, took the throne of Mirzapur for themselves. Kaleen’s wife, Beena, had conspired with Golu and Guddu to end the reign of the Tripathi family and killed Kaleen’s father, the patriarch of the family, Bauji. The Cm of the state, Surya Pratap, had died after meeting an accident, leaving his daughter, Madhuri (Munna’s widow), the prime seat of the state, while his brother, J. P. Yadav, who aspired to become the next Cm,...

Bengaluru, March 21 (Ians) A study by a team of researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here has added to the growing body of evidence about how efficient the new strains of Sars-CoV-2 virus are at escaping immune attack and at causing infections.
The team has identified several new mutations that accumulated through recombination at a high rate and affected viral proteins, especially different parts (domains) of the viral spike protein.
The findings of the study have been published in the ‘Journal of Medical Virology’.
It all began in January 2022, around the time that the Omicron variant of Sars-CoV-2 started spreading rapidly. The team led by Shashank Tripathi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Microbiology & Cell Biology, and Centre for Infectious Diseases Research, analysed genomic sequences of all the viral strains that appeared between November 2019 and July 2022 in various databases worldwide.

Pune, Jan 5 (Ians) A brilliant half-century by all-rounder Axar Patel and his blazing 91-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav (51) went in vain as India failed to recover from early setbacks and lost to Sri Lanka by 16 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (McA) Stadium, here on Thursday.
Axar Patel hammered 6 sixes and two boundaries in his brilliant 31-ball 65 and Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Mavi (26 off 15) dragged India from a precarious position to condition when they needed 20 off the last six deliveries.
But in the end, the task was too stiff for the Gujarat batter who played some sensational shots including three sixes off successive deliveries in the 14th over. Dasun Shanaka got him out in the final over as India’s hopes ended.

Squid Game fan favorite Anupam Tripathi has signed with CAA in all areas, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The Indian actor moved to Korea on an arts scholarship and for the next decade worked mostly in small parts onscreen and stage until he landed his first major role in what became a global sensation for Netflix. As Ali Abdul (aka Player No. 199), the sweet and trusting Pakistani migrant worker trying to earn a living for his wife and infant child, he had to speak broken Korean with an Urdu accent (whereas in real life, the actor is fluent in Korean and Hindi).
Tripathi is now a SAG Award nominee, sharing the nomination for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series with the rest of the Squid Game cast — the first such nomination for a series not in English.
