Filmmakers and artistes, who felt restricted by the censorship rules, found the over-the-top (Ott) platforms as a way to express themselves freely. But they are now concerned about moves to regulate this medium too and argue that instead of putting curbs, there should 'age-based' certification.
Their concerns stem from the Supreme Court's recent direction to the Centre to regulate the content featured on Ott media platforms, where shows and films on are often laced with nudity, violence and strong language.
Filmmaker Sachin Yardi, who jumped into the web space bandwagon with "Chopsticks", lauded the digital space for the freedom it gives to artistes and is against censorship on the digital medium.
"Everyone has his own individual idea of what censorship should be and I have mine. At the very core of all of this, we shouldn't undermine the intelligence of people at large and that it is crucial," Yardi told the publication.

Netflix used the second night of its See What’s Next: Asia content gathering in Singapore to unveil eight new original films for its India market, including a regional release for Bleecker Street and ShivHans Pictures’ long-gestating Hotel Mumbai, which the streaming giant has rights to in the South and Southeast Asian territories.
The film, directed by Anthony Maras and starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher and Jason Isaacs, had been in limbo as part of The Weinstein Company bankruptcy. A 2019 U.S. release date is likely for the movie, which depicts the events of the 2008 terrorist attacks on the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.
Other films in the works include Firebrand, a Marathi Film directed by Aurna Raje and produced by Priyanka Chopra that follows a successful lawyer (Usha Jadhav), a sexual assault victim, as she tackles difficult family cases while also dealing with intimacy issues in her own marriage.

After crooning a few lines in Marathi in the song 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino', Riteish Deshmukh has now penned the lyrics and even sung the Marathi version of the song. 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino' is a tweaked version of Shilpa Shetty's famed dance number 'Up Bihar Lootne' from Shool. When Riteish sang the four lines in Marathi for the song 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuccino', music composers Manmeet and Harmeet popularly known as the Meet Brothers, were so impressed by Riteish's singing that they suggested to have a full fledged Marathi version of the song. Riteish, who feels that 'Hum Toh Hain Cappuchino' is the best song of the album, was more than happy to pen the lyrics and sing the Marathi version of the song. He even added the word Latur (his hometown) to the Marathi version of the song. Not just that, the video of the...

The promos of Ekta Kapoor's forthcoming film Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (Kskhh) have already created a lot of buzz what with its raunchy and at times controversial lines. Now it seems that producer Ekta Kapoor and director Sachin Yardi have had an argument of sorts over a particular scene in the film. The scene in question has Tusshar Kapoor mouthing lines like "Yeh Aaj Kal Ke Heroines Ke Naam Kya Kya Hain? Fakhri? Penty?" While the film is an outrageous comedy, Ekta felt that taking digs at actresses Nargis Fakhri and Diana Penty was not in good light and requested director Sachin Yardi to delete the scene. However, Yardi felt otherwise and refused to comply with Ekta's demand causing an argument between them. Now it remains to be seen who wins this argument and whether the scene in question is retained in the final cut or not? Watch...

‘Dil Garden Garden’ from the forthcoming sex-com Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum was trending on Twitter in less than 24 hours of its online release, becoming an instant national hit.
Contrary to speculation, its star lyricist Mayur Puri was not inspired to use the ‘Dil Garden Garden’ mukhda by Gulshan Grover’s line in the Akshay Kumar-starrer International Khiladi. Remarks Puri, “‘Dil garden garden Ho Gaya’ is a commonly used comic phrase in North India to describe a feeling of joy and satisfaction. With this as a hook, the tone of the song was set. It was meant to be a harmless, though naughty, pun on a dog. However, with self-proclaimed social activists, animal welfare committees and moral crusaders likely to take their jobs a bit too seriously, there has been a change in plan for Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum. Resultantly, one of the funniest characters in the film, a pug, has gone through a change of name.
"In the film Riteish's character is shown to have a steady companion in the form of a pug named 'Fakhruddin'. Though the name was widely publicised and even mentioned in the promos, it has gone through a change. Now his name has been abbreviated to 'Fakhru'. This has been done as Fakhru sounds more cute and to avoid community leaders from making a mountain out of a mole-hill," informs a source.

It isn't just The Dirty Picture, which is keeping Ekta Kapoor and her team busy. Work has begun on the sequel of the boisterous surprise 2005 hit Kyaa Kool Hain Hum, directed by Sangeeth Sivan. "Ever since Kya Kool Hai Hum turned into a success, producer Ekta Kapoor was keen to do a sequel", informs a trade source. "Writer-director Sachin Yardi who has been finalised for the film has been clearly told that the sequel should not be vulgar. It's meant to be fun in a young sort of way - on the lines of Dhamaal, Masti and Housefull." The Balaji team had been searching for a subject for long and finally approved the cracker of an idea that Sachin Yardi came up with. Incidentally, Sachin had written the original as well. So impressed was the team with what Sachin had written that he was immediately entrusted with the responsibility of directing the film as well.

The Balaji team had been searching for a subject for long and finally approved the cracker of an idea that Sachin Yardi came up with. Incidentally, Sachin had written the original as well. So impressed was the team with what Sachin had written that he was immediately entrusted with the responsibility of directing the film as well.
